Fare thee well

Hi as you know I'm a Rockets fan who found himself weirdly invested in Fox and the Kings making the playoffs. I enjoyed the journey though disappointing as it was in the end.

I think the 3 game stretch vs the best teams in the West with multiple losses by 2 or less really marked the end of your playoff push.

I don't see myself being as invested next season. Good luck to your team. The future looks bright. While I hope Fox doesn't destroy future rockets teams. I've seen enough to know he is going to be capable of doing that to future teams.

Anyways I enjoyed my short stint on this forum and good luck for the future.

So I'm back
5 years later

But this time to say
It's time to give us (the Rockets) Fox

What do you think the cost for Fox would be?

You seriously wouldn’t trade the picks you guys have of ours to the Kings for Fox?
Hoping to use that in a trade for Kevin Durant

But I think we'll be in the market for 2 stars this offseason
Hoping we make the playoffs but there will be atleast 3 very disappointed teams who I hope we can help into a rebuild.

You’re not getting Durant for those picks alone when KD is averaging 28, 6 and 3 on 55% shooting overall and 43% from 3.

Better keep Jalen Green and Whitmore to even have a chance.

If the Kings ever decided to trade Fox (in this hypothetical it would probably be a request on his end) the Rockets would be one of the few teams I could see as a potential destination. Having said that, the Kings and Fox almost certainly will try a whole bunch of other options (coaching changes, role player acquisitions, philosophy shifts etc) before hitting that button. Neither Fox nor the Kings want that to happen.

Rockets don’t have anything we want for Fox

Realistically it's time for a rebuild in Sacramento

Kings can't keep aiming for a low playoff seed & get excited when you guys slightly surpass it & disappointed when they're slightly short.

This team will never be a contender. It's reached its peak with the 3rd seed.

Best to restart on trying to create a contender in Sacramento. These upcoming Drafts are the best time to start.

There's zero chance we trade more than that for a KD who is already talking about retirement & might not make it past his current contract.

Take FVV, Decline his team option save $100M & we'll throw in some DPs for your rebuild.

It's not time for a rebuild. Not yet. It may be time for a retool, sure, but definitely not a rebuild.
And Fox will not be part of the group leaving Sacramento during the "retool". Others around him should. We need to try to "retool" around Fox before we decide to completely tear it up and rebuild from the ground up.

Also, your Rockets don't have anyone, or anything, I'd want in return.

So, once again...

No. You are not getting Fox.

Na, the West is wide open and it’s likely going to come down to matchups and health. The Mavs missed the playoffs 2 years ago and then made the finals last year. The wolves made the conference finals last year and are now 8-8. It’s volatile. Also, if Fox does eventually get traded they would try to move him East first. No sense in helping your competitor unless you have no option.

And while the Kings are massively struggling, there's still only 2.5 games separating us as the current 13 and the 4 seed Lakers. Means absolutely nothing is set in stone and the West standings likely look drastically different in another 2 weeks.

Not even close
Mavs Wolves have guys who are top 10 players so when they are surrounded by talent they can lead their teams deep into the playoffs.

Sabonis & Fox aren't going to lead you to a title
DeRozan was the guy you trade to get the guy to lead you to a title but now he's 35 nobody wants him.
Nor do you have a great stock pile of picks

It's time to see what packages you can get for Fox.

We have young players & picks
Perfect for a rebuild

Kings best projection is the 7th & 8th seed & taking a team to 6 in the 1st round. Most likely the Kings don't make the playoffs at all.

Kings need to get off the treadmill of mediocrity.

You're trying way too hard for something that ain't gonna happen.

Why are you on a Kings message board trying to play Fantasy GM for the Rockets? And why did you think that we would play along?
Originally to find out what the trade package would look like

But I fear Kings fan are a while away on the 5 stages of grief. Acceptance hopefully comes soon.

Some are further along it seems

Anyways Fox is awesome hope the fans & FO are ready to realise it's best for the Kings soon.

The point is, the Kings aren't going to sell. They went out and got a 35 year old DDR to try and make a playoff push, not to give up on it 20 games into the year.

If we were out of this thing by the trade deadline, the first guy to go would be DDR. Fox would probably be a off-season trade and even then, we'd go one more year before selling him.

As a non-Kings fan, you simply have no clue how little this fanbase would countenance another tear-down-and-rebuild right now.

Right now, at this point in the season, things suck for us. But we have an All-Star PG who has been going supernova lately, an All-Star C, an up-and-coming two-way forward, a sixth-man of the year candidate, and we just signed an All-Star wing to go along with it. Our record is poor partly because we've been absolutely jobbed by the refs in two or three games (like all game, not just one bad call at the end), and literally all of our shooters are having trouble hitting jump shots. This is fixable. We need to play better three-point defense; we need to start hitting shots; we need to get a fair whistle. With that, this team is easily a top-six seed even in a stacked West.

This is, without even a hint of exaggeration, the best team we have built in Sacramento since the Webber/Peja/Bibby/Vlade/Christie teams of the Glory Days. We just picked up that last piece of the puzzle, what, 17 games ago? And you think we're going to just blow it up? You're nuts.

Nobody wants DeRozan though?
You guys are the only team who wanted DDR.
Sabonis is hard to build around so I don't see his value being high.

You only have Fox one more season after this one. He's the only one who would bring in a package to rebuild around.

That's your opinion.

The reality is what I laid out. You're coming on here for advice from Kings fans; there's the rub. This team isn't going to tear down the next season and a half at the very least. If it goes bad, Brown will be out, Monte will probably be out and that's where the rebuild will start to happen. Capt is 100% right; this fanbase would revolt against this club if they tore this down at the trade deadline. They waited 20 years for a good team, we finally have one and to just give it 40 games together would be quite frankly stupid.

This is probably the best reply I've had
For why not to tear it all down.
Fan push back could be too severe.
And there's definitely push back against the idea on here.

But not making the playoffs 2 years in a row would probably lead to a rebuild. (& DDR being the last piece of the puzzle seems optimistic)

Issue is aiming for a top 6 seed isn't really that ambitious.
