Family Guy - What's so funny about it ?

Ok, I seriously don't understand it ... everyone in the world loves Family Guy, except for me. From what I understand, there is usually no plotline, the characters are pretty much one-dimensional, so are we supposed to laugh at the random acts of stupidity which happen every 5 seconds ?
I mean, I love South Park, the Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, and I gave Family Guy many many chances, but I just don't get it.
I guess my question is: Is there any reason why someone without ADD should watch this cartoon ?

Well, I can understand a dislike for "Family Guy", when it first came on, I thought of it as the idiotic successor to "The Simpsons", where Futurama was the more cerebral successor.

"Family Guy" makes an awful lot of pop-culture references, and they are pretty random, but if you catch them, sometimes they're good for a chuckle. The most important thing to remember is that "Family guy" isn't about satire like the "Simpsons" or "Southpark" are. It's about surprising people with incongruities based on popular culture.

I dont find it hillarious but I do get a laugh out of it every once in a while. Havent watching it lately but I'd rather watch the Simpsons.

My friend has problems with that show too, but he is just a Simpsons' homer. He hates Family Guy and gets into ridiculous heated arguments about it.

I watch it, I don't find it hilarious every second, but it's still has some funny parts. Its just something to watch. American Dad is also made by Family Guy but it tends to stick with the story line and doesn't make random references, you should give that show a try.

I don't know, I can definatly tell how people could not like it, but as for me, I love it. It gets belly laughs out of me every episode, and I have season 1-3 on DVD.

Well, I admit that I chuckled every once in a while... but in between two of those there's about a dozen of "Well that was retarded..." And I don't need a story line to find something funny (e.g. Royal Tenenbaums) it's just that a few people who I know pretty much get really excited when they're about to watch the Family Guy, and I don't understand why. Perhaps I don't understand all the pop culture references, but I do get them for the most part in other shows...

I also have seasons 1-3 of family guy on dvd and i would defend it anyday. I honestly think that the reason that this show is so funny is because of Peter Griffin, a.k.a. the dad for anyone who doesn't watch it. He is just so dumb, and such a...pig i guess that i can't help but laugh at damn near every thing that comes out of his animated mouth. I also think that the pop culture references through out the show are probably the funniest aspect, mainly because they make a lot of reference to 80's and late 70's commercials or cartoons that i can vividly remember just like it was yesterday. I could honestly go on for hours about the funniest scenes in different episodes. Ones where i just about pee'd my pants to tell you the truth. Sloter, i think you just need to try and watch it without the predetermined thoughts that, "this is so stupid", i honestly hardly ever saw the show when it first aired on fox. It wasn't until it started re-airing on cartoon network at 11 or i think 1130 now, that i realized how truly funny it was. I 'm telling you sloter, give it a chance...i can almost guarantee that if you watch the re-runs on cartoon network, with-in maybe a week or two you will notice what makes the show so funny....an yes i did just write a paragraph about a gosh darn cartoon!!!!

ps...do the same for the royal tennenbaums...gene hackman is very very funny in this film.

It does take a while to get into the "hang" of Family Guy. I guess you have to have a certain sense of humor to like it. I am a fan of the show but I also like stupid cartoons such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, the Thumb Movies (Thumbtanic, Bat Thumb, The GodThumb, ThumbWars, FrankenThumb)<<<<<<<<<If you have seen KungPow, check out these Thumb movies, absolutey hilarious!

I saw KungPow... pretty stupid but its funny because its so dumb. Havent seen the thumb movies but I've heared of the Thumbwars (starwars) ones.

Adult swim shows are my type of shows too but,

KungPow was probably the ****tiest movie I've ever saw. For my friends birthday about a dozen of my us went to see that movie when it came out and a dozen of us were pissed we paid for it. The only guy who liked it was not ivited.

I think most of the movie/TV parodies on the show tend to fall pretty flat. I usually sit stone-faced when they do stuff like Passion of the Christ 2. We've already had a lame animated show built around stuff like that. It was called The Critic. The less they rely on parody and the more they rely on their warped minds to create original material, the better.

I originally gave up on it after its first two or three episodes. Someone at work brought in the DVD's, and I laughed enough to give it another shot. I'm still not completely sold on it, but I give it the benefit of the doubt since there's a few times each episode where I'll say "That was insanely brilliant."

While I generally find Family Guy at least mildly if I watch it, I don't have it on my pre-programmed list or anything.
