ESPN: Celtics, Marbury interested in deal

#1
Nearly one year since Stephon Marbury last played in a regular-season game, signals are getting stronger that the New York Knicks' outcast will eventually make his comeback with the Boston Celtics.

That still depends largely on Marbury's ability to negotiate his release from the Knicks after weeks of fruitless and oft-contentious buyout talks, but sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com this week that Boston is Marbury's preferred destination if he manages to become a free agent and that the Celtics are indeed hopeful of signing him.
Rest here..

I second that!!! WHY!?!?! Rondo is perfect for that team and they are playing pretty damn well, why would they mess with that? I understrand that they have depth problems, but do you think that Marbury is looking to come to the Celtics and be a back up PG? Because, if Boston is smart that's exactly what he would be. Someone to give them a bit more depth than 3 pt specialist/no defense specialist Eddie House.

I can see they are trying to ensure another championship, but this kind of deal may be exactly what prevents it. It's almost as if Ainge is out thinking himself on this one, if there is validity to the rumor.

heh, if they're willing to take that risk...what happened with Garnett and Marbury in Minnesota?

That whole championship run was defined by teamwork and sublimating ego for everyone's benefit. Marbury has never had that from what I've heard, and I doubt he'd develop it now.

You have to wonder if this is one of these rumors started by someone with a very warped sense of humor. Why would Boston risk their team chemistry, etc. with FSM? It better not happen - the Celtics were my team before there was a Sacramento Kings team. I've always had a warm spot for them in my heart. Much like Insomniacal Fan, I'd hate to have to start rooting against them because of one stupid personnel decision.

DON'T DO IT, DANNY!!!!

FSM to the Celtics? Are they trying to make me hate the Celtics? Are hoopsfan and Gargamel working in the Celtic front office?

Disgusting. Vomit-inducing. If it comes down to the gd lakers or FSM winning a championship, I'm rooting for the end of the ****in' world.

I am officially on the Cleveland LeBrons' "bandwagon" for the duration.

People are already buying into having Marbury = ensures 18th championship for the Celtics. He's going to behave by listening to the Big 3, performing well because it's Doc Rivers. So on and so forth.

Reminds me of the song, "The Snake"...

THE SNAKE
(Oscar Brown Jr.)

recorded by Al Wilson Also recorded by: Belle Stars; Oscar Brown Jr.; The Mint Juleps; Johnny Rivers; Paula West.

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Poor thing," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"

"Take me in tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a comforter of silk
And laid him by her fireside with some honey and some milk
She hurried home from work that night and soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taken in had been revived

"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

She clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful," she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
She stroked his pretty skin again and kissed and held him tight
Instead of saying thanks, the snake gave her a vicious bite

"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

"I saved you," cried the woman
"And you've bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in

"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

Why anyone would want to sign Marbury is beyond me.

The guy has brought god awful near-chaos everywhere he has been for some 10 years.
I mean really....Has anything changed?
...

Here's to the eventual "KG lays out Starbury at practice!!" story headlining the sports page!
:p

KG lobbied for him. At this point in his career he'd sell his soul for a championship. He's toiled for so long he just wants rings. I can't blame him. At the end of the day, they can waive him if he's a headache. I don't see why so many people are down on this move. He's auditioning for the rest of his career in the next 2 months. He could go Bonzi, but they just wave him, and problem solved. He's a cancer, but he could ball with the best of them.

This makes me sad inside, but Boston is still my second home town so I'll root for them come playoff time either way. Fingers crossed that there is a mix up in his paperwork.

Meh I root against Boston anyway so this doesn't change anything. I really like Pierce but I can't stand KG. I think LeBron gets in to the Finals this year anyway.

It remains to be seen how much PT he actually gets in the playoffs. Til then, talk is cheap. It's one thing to play him against the Wizards and Bucks, another to do it in the CFs or Finals. If Doc wants to use him, it's going to edge out House, who gives them 3pt shooting (the Lakers have about the most porous 3pt D among the contendaz). Where's Marb's shot at? Is he going to be able to exploit that weakness?

The Celtics are now dead to me...which is hard to say considering they were my favorite team for 20 years before the Kings came to Sacramento. Sorry, MKF... And I don't hate the team. I refuse, however, to root for a team with SFM on its roster...
