Marbury fuels Knicks feud
From news services

A defiant Stephon Marbury reopened his bitter and sometimes juvenile feud with Larry Brown by saying he will do things his way next season and that if the Knicks' hall of fame coach doesn't like it, "I don't care."

Confident he won't be traded and repeating his familiar mantra to play like "Starbury" — whatever that means — next season, Marbury said his days of conforming to Brown's demands as a controlled, pass-first point guard are over. Asked if that is what Brown wants to hear, Marbury fired back: "I don't care what he wants to hear. I'm telling you what I'm going to do."

"Like I said he came here, I'm willing and able, 100 percent committed to do whatever he wanted me to do," Marbury, a former Timberwolf, added. "I did it. It didn't work. So I'm going to play like I know how to play."

Marbury's contentious relationship with Brown is as ugly as any in professional sports, and Knicks President Isiah Thomas is expected to explore trading him. One possibility is swapping Marbury to Philadelphia for Allen Iverson, who also feuded with Brown but managed to lead his team to an NBA Finals and capture league MVP honors. Marbury, who is on his fourth team, never has advanced past the first round.

Marbury isn't worried about being traded because he doesn't believe it's going to happen. The fact that he will earn $60 million over the next three seasons probably has something to do with his sense of security.

"I'm going to be back in New York," Marbury said. "I'm not going anywhere, I don't think. As far as I know, I don't see why I would be anywhere else but New York."

It doesn't surprise me at all and most of the current Knicks will be gone next year from what I hear on ESPN, well their theories anyway but they sure need to do something. It's gone beyond a joke now.

What a mess the Knicks have become...It's not even funny at this point.

I think it's hilarious!! Anything falling apart like this and having to do with Isiah Thomas has freakin' got me rolling on the floor laughing my head off!!:p
Now if Ainge and McHale could pull off similar stunts....

Didn't he say the exact same thing about a month ago with his "Starbury" speech?

This guy's an idiot.

But I like seeing dream situations go up in smoke, and both Larry's dream coaching job and Stephon's dream team have been terrible for them...So I'll admit it, that I am enjoying this.

that or Darius Miles situation. Guaranteed 48 million and guaranteed bench warming..............in street clothes.

As much as I dislike Marbury, he has a point. Larry Brown is an a** and a straight up cancer. Brown has been unwilling to work with what he's got at all. Instead he rather sabotage the team to get his way. He rather make threats of trading players in the off-season, like any player would care with their guarantee contracts, instead of getting wins and getting into the playoffs.

Isaiah has done an abysmal job, but hiring LB tops it all.

The best resolution would be to get rid of LB, get a coach who can manage egos and talent, get wins, and get into the playoffs. Making your players look like s***, and then making threats that they'll be traded is plain dumb. When you're in NY, having a competitive and exciting team is enough, but LB can't do that.

Marbury is just as bad as Larry Brown. They are both pretty much without redeeming value of any kind. The difference is that Marbury has a much stronger union...

Didn't Marbury play for the Suns with D'Antoni coaching? If he did and could not succeed in that system, I am not sure what kind of coach or team would be best for him. Anything I have read makes D'Antoni sound like a players coach.

I read a NY article that quoted Penny H, saying that he and Marbury did, not, buy into a run and gun game. Seems hard to believe, as since then, Marbury has also said the Knicks should run more.

After writing this I have come to a new conclusion. Marbury does not want to be coached, either for his own betterment or his teams'.

Marbury didn't play under D'Antoni, at least not for long. They stumbled out the gates after giving the Spurs a scare in the playoffs the previous year, and the coach at the time- Frank Johnson- was fired in December. D'Antoni who was an assistant under Johnson, took over the reigns as Head Coach. Stephon was traded before the deadline that same season.

I don't think there were any bad feelings between coach and player when the trade was made. It was as mutual a transaction as one can be; Marbury wanted to be in NY, and the Suns wanted cap space (they tanked the season). The only thing that trickled out since then was, the organization wanted to showcase Amare more, and Marbury and Amare didn't have the right chemistry for that.
