This all comes down to Stern. If you havent heard Gordon is very keen on signing a contract extension with the small market hornets with the commissioner needing to approve the deal which he hasnt done so yet.

If no deal is approved by the deadline the young, talented Gordon becomes a restricted FA.

What would the boards views be on chasing him as a RFA or sign and trade.

His pairing with Tyreke in the starting lineup would force Thornton to be our 6th man - a position many here have been pushing for, and we'd have quite a backcourt and guard rotation with the key aspect of youth on our side.

Its a deal you do if you continue with the school of thought that has Tyreke as the instigator of our offense. This is clearly not for those who want a traditional PG next to Reke.

Of course this could be pointless if Stern turns around and hands him his extension which he should considering the type of player Gordon is and the fact he really was the main piece in the trade with the clips.

Gordon would be a great addition but Jimmer or Thornton would have to go. Can't have three SGs that all need significant minutes. On the other hand, this is the Kings we're talking about, so the normal rules regarding team construction no longer apply.
 
Gordon is a beast of player, if you can get him you do it and worry about the rest of the roster later. You can always trade your other pieces.
 
Unfortunately the only piece you could trade for him is Thornton, and for obvious reasons Thronton isn't going back to New Orleans.
 
A guard roatation of Reke, Gordon and Thornton would have enough mins. Its when you start thinking about developing Jimmer and the mins he'd need that you start having issues. I do feel that if we were to rid jimmer in the process of getting Gordon we'd be fine

I don't want to get rid of Jimmer. Rather get rid of Thornton. A he has more trade value than Jimmer right now and B what you see is what you get with Thornton, at this point, he probably isn't going to get much better. Jimmer on the other hand, we don't have any idea how good he'll be. He could end up being better than Thornton in a few years.
 
There would have to be a third team involved if Thornton and Gordon were the center pieces. One thing to remember is that Gordon was the center piece in the Hornets return from trading away Chris Paul. Thornton alone is not going to be enough.

I love Gordon. Ever since he was drafted I wanted him paired with Reke in the backcourt. However, with Thornton that would no longer make sense.

I'd prefer a Gordon/Reke backcourt to our current one, but I don't see a way to get him. It would make little sense to offer a huge contract to a RFA sg this summer, with Thorntons new deal. Not with our greater needs at the sf and pf. Don't see us trading for him either, as we'd have to extend him to a significant amount.
 
No chance.

If he doesn't sign with the Hornets, he's bound to be a Pacer.

They're all over his nuts since the day he was drafted waiting for him to come home, and theres no sane reason for him to choose us over them.
 
What we need is some players who can hit some damn shots....pretty much every player in the league can except us so trading for anyone would be a welcome sight.
 
Unless you trade Thornton for him, which just won't happen for obvious reasons, its a terrible fit.

The 3rd guard added to Reke and Marcus will have to be a PG who is capable of playing off the ball, control the pace of the game and steady the ship when needed. In other words a better defending Beno Udrih. Heck even just plain Beno would be fantastic.
 
this is definitely not going to happen. they will match offers for him. they just don't want to bid against themselves for his services.

This is how the RFA market is played, unless you're talking about a top-tier talent.
