Monta, without tyreke we need someone in the backcourt that can break down a defense. Thornton is redundant with ben. Ellis is also a mu h better all around scorer than tyreke. You just lose that defensive ability. Although you would hope Malone can get Monta to give a crape on defense, he has the length and quickness to be at least adequete against pg's.

But bringing ellis in he would be the #1 scoring option for sure. Cousins rite behind him with the same privileges. Thorton is a good shooter. Thats it. I think with this position scoring is the main topic.. even so I think ellis would be better on defense.

what a nightmare that would be. say hello to a 25 win season

You're excited about Ellis coming in to be our number one scoring option?

Some of you guys are hilarious with your MT hate. Funny thing is case could be made that MT is a better player than both Ellis and Evans. I say ride with Thornton and it's becoming apparent that's exactly what they're doing.

Who else would be a better scoring option on the team that we will have?

Than a guy that would shoot one of the lowest % on the team with the highest number of shots?

Cousins, Mac, Landry, thornton along with hopefully a far more effective additional scorer.

Ellis needs 18 shots to put up 20 points. That is not a "good" scorer, that is a guy who scores a lot by the sheer volume of shots he takes.

IT is not nearly as dynamic a player, but he gets to the line just as often, and is a much better shooter. The production gap isn't that big, and efficiency is in IT's favor. If you want to justify Ellis as a 10 mil (at the very least) supersub, I just don't know what to say.

yea lets take the ball away from our potentially dominate big man and give it to the king of all chuckers Monte freaking Ellis, thats going to make Big Cuz REALLY happy along with all the Kings fans. also gonna lead to a superb win-loss record......

Not that this is the be-all end-all or anything, but PER actually favors Thornton by a hair. So by one objective measure anyway, Thornton is the better player or at least the same player. And that's before you start to talk about defense, off-court issues, or contract demands.

I hope mac becomes the number one option. I said cousins and ellis will probably get about the same privilege in scoring. Thornton is good. I just personally see more oppurtunity in ellis.

Speaking of PER.

Amongst players averaging 19 or more points, Monta Ellis has the 6th worst Player Efficiency Rating in NBA HISTORY.

Ellis also averaged the most points per game in history for a player that has never made an all-star team.

For a reason.

Here is my take. If you really believe in Mclemore and want him to develope quickly then Ellis is your guy ONLY if Thornton is gone. My reason is Ellis can play point. So if Mclemore comes off the bench he can come in for Vasquez and Ellis and Ellis swings to pg when Vasquez is out. That should be good for a solid 20-25 min a night solid maybe more. if nothing is done and we keep Thornton 1 of 2 problems is going to occur. 1) Thornton starts and Mclemore only gets about 15 a night 2) Mclelmore starts and Thornton's value drops like a rock leaving us with a contract worth about 17 mil over the next 2 years that we can't move.

BUT WAIT Option 3) keep thornton and give Mclemore time in the first half see how he reacts to the NBA if he looks like he could take off trade Thornton before deadline get a lower level SG as a backup for Mclemore.

Option 4) trade thornton for SF let salmons backup SG or start depending on how quickly Mclemore comes along.

Um, no, its quite clear they are trying to do anything but. They drafted a rookie to take his spot, and now are threatening to do something much worse.

Do you think the thinking is because of what i said? I mean i see that line of thinking but i wish it was somebody else in that role. who do we know that can play SG and swing to PG that is good defender and can get to the basket????????????????

I rather have Thornton's range coming off the bench. I just can't see Ellis coming to Sacramento to be a 6th man, nor would I want him to come.
