I would only sign Griffin if there was a morality clause in his contract that stated that he were to act that was not in the best interest of the Kings his contract would then become void

Happy Freedom Day Eddie! Today was his release date.

Hopefully he can stay out of trouble until the 22nd.

But the guy definitely has enough upside to take a chance on. Probably not MLE-worthy, at least not a multi-year, but something like $6M over two/three years would be great.

I love his upside and potential. When his head is on straight he can be dominating. I would love to see the kings get a young guy (since swift if gone) who can block shots and rebound

I read on the rumors section of Hoopshype that Minny offered a 3 year deal with the contract value being 1.8, 1.9, and 2.0 million$ in the respective year.

You could probably take that with a grain of salt, but I just though Id throw it out there.

Only team that Griffin play well against are the Kings so unless we are allowed to play ourselves - we don't need him.

BTW - I would hate to see some of our players get shot as an innocent bystander
Yeah, but imagine the stats he'd put up in practices. :)

You know, I think I'd do it.

He's young, athletic, a shotbloacker, AND can shoot?! Whats not to love?

But then of course without a KG type to intimidate him from the drugs/alcohol, will he stay down a straight path?

Who knows, but I think it's worth a shot.

Maybe Peja can intimidate him.

Many posters here seem to like Tyson Chandler. Let's see:
EG 4.65 def reb in 21.3(6.0 in 27.4) and TC - 6.35 in 27.4. Not so much of a difference if you recall that half of his time EG spent with KG and half with Kandi and E.Johnson who rebound better than any Chicago bigs outside of Chandler.
EG 1.69 bl in 21.3(2.2 in 27.4), TC - 1.76 in 27.4.
One-on-one defense is pretty hard to measure but I haven't seen anyone outside of Yao and Amare who scored higher than 50% on him(both were 2-3 against EG but against Yao EG also once knocked the ball out of his hands, and Amare was 4-4 against KG that game).
Offensively TC seems better(he's 2nd in free throws on his team not far from Curry) but I think EG is a better fit for Kings. About chunking many 3s I repeat: EG NEVER got the ball near paint when he demanded it so what the reason for him to stay inside when he can set screens and get some shots outside.

I spent half an hour yesterday and checked how EG played when Flip was fired:
in the same 21.+ minutes
3P per game - 3.4 under Flip, 1.6 under McHale
2P% - .404 under Flip, .487 under McHale
def.reb. - 4.35 under Flip, 5.65 under McHale(by the way KG numbers were down from 10.7 to 9.9) which is pretty same def. rebounding as R.Evans'.
All other stats pretty same.
By the way Kenny Thomas had 6.6 reb with Philly in 28 min, 8.3 with Kings in 31 min and Skinner averaged 0.25bl in 10 min in Philly.

I've been thinking Eddie Griffin for awhile too as a possible PF option for us. He represents some defense and good size at PF. From here on, I would look to sign these guys (in this order):

Steven Hunter (because we need another 7 footer)
Reggie Evans or Eddie Griffin (because we need a PF)
Maurice Evans (because Martin can play SF and he's too talented to let go)

That's too many guys to split the MLE on though. There would have to be a trade involved somehow which I don't see happening right now for Hunter, Evans, or Griffin since their teams want to keep them, but maybe. Definately keep Skinner or Kenny Thomas as a backup PF. I like Skinner as a backup more, but if Reggie Evans is your starter you might want more scoring off the bench. Corliss is a solid veteran to have on the bench, but I'd just as soon move him so he isn't squeezing the rookies out of minutes.

Nikoloz going to Wolves could effect keeping Griffin.

Thomas will probably be used in some kind of trade, he seems to not want to be a back-up, and his contract is big for a back-up. Thomas won't be starting, so he's gonna be on another team next year I'd think. Skinner I think will be the one who stays out of the Philly three.

I also think Martin could be involved in a trade to get us a PF.

Definitely like your suggestions of those four though, I think we'll get 2 of them.

The problem with Griffin is that he's a restricted free agent, and Minnesota could match. If you could sign him on the cheap, yeah, I'd take him too. But somehow I think Minnesota would matching anything up to the full MLE.

Trade Kenny somewhere(maybe the main problem), keep Songaila(if Thomas ok with coming off the bench and Maloofs are ok with his salary let Songaila go), acquire Griffin for something like 18-20 for 5 years(maybe with team option for 2nd or 3rd year in case he will get back into personal problems) start him and Brad(30 and 36 min) with Songaila(skillful big man) and Skinner(dirty work big man) for 30 combined, get someone big from summer league for cheerleading and garbage minutes(also a possibility for Corliss). I think we would be fine.
P.S. EG is NOT restricted, he's not on rookie contract.

Interesting fact: when EG played at least 30 min of the game he grabbed at least the same number of rebounds as KG.
Wow. That is a pretty good fact. If we got Eddie, he would probably play around 28 minutes, if we have Thomas still since he would be hte back-up. Nice fact Giles.

The Bee this morning mentioned that Minnesota was possibly interested in Moe Evans. I wonder if we could pull a trade of Moe for Griffin. We'd then still have the MLE to get another big guy like Reggie Evans.

Now, that I like.

on R. Evans...

R. Evans could replace Songaila if he goes to the Nets/Sonics/Sixers. Wonder if we could do a S/T with Seattle for R. Evans sending Songaila there to Seattle, or even one with the Wizards for one of their big guys or Juan Dixon if the Kings want him pretty badly.

If you read the T'Wolves boards the fans are pretty mixed about EG.

Apparently, likes to float on the perimeter too much on offense and does not have a post game to speak of. The potential seems to be there.

If you believe media reports Minny offered him a three year deal starting at 1.8 million and worth 5.7 million in total! That seems a little low if you put him in the same general catergory as Swift. I think you could even argue that he has more "potential" than Swift who got the entire MLE from Houston.

Hoopshype reports Griffin to resign in Minni

According to hoopshype rumors section, the minnesota newspaper said to expect that Griffin is signing a two year $3.7 mil contract with the Twolves by Aug 1 .... if this is true, then petrie better get on the phone and sweeten a deal to him, because he probably could be had for 3 year $9 mil... but the source did not say he will sign, but "expect him to sign"... hopefully that gives petrie a window to steal him away...

i read the whole article about EG and it was in the "by the way, rumor" section of the minni newspaper... hopefully it is just wishfull thinking on their part... if the offer is true, then petrie should be able to steal him away for more money and years...

Yeah, it was like "Look for an announcment of Griffin to re-sign with the T'Wolves of a 2-year deal" or something.

That doesn't mean he is signed, nor agreed to a deal.

Great, I hope the Wolves fans are mixed about EG.

If he's gonna be off the market, time to go after Reggie Evans or do some kind of a trade (like mentioned above for r. Evans, possibly).

I repeat some ideas I already posted in this thread. I watched 7 out of 70 games he played in(they are recorded so I watched only for EG, took me like 4 hours).
1. He floats to perimeter? Under McHale he shot twice less 3P shots. He DOESN'T have ANY back to the basket game. He has nice hookshot. At least his motions looked smooth and easy. Yeah he made only TWO hookshots in those 7 games - very well may turn out his hookshot is non-existant, but any time he tried to demand the ball near the post he NEVER(not even once got it). Those two shots were made after he grabbed off.rebounds. First really no reason to give him the ball inside when you got KG on the floor, Kandi and Ervin kinda useless when they make some steps outside of paint, I guess his floating to perimeter was coach's decision. He have only 0.8 assists per game? He's not a great passer and never will be, doesn't have post game(source of assists for most big man) on offense he was used like occasional finisher-screen setter but I think he can be a solid passer like KT.
2. Bricklayer(if I'm not mistaken) made a good point why they try to lowball him if he has so much upside and already is so useful. First he hasn't get ANY interest so far and was totally overlooked. Why throw MLE at him when you probably can get him with LLE? Second Minni got undrafted Jones who looks like a replacement for Ervin J, retained Mad Dog and probably will keep another big man in Thomas(forget his name). Seems like they want to keep last year's rotation at 4 and 5. That gives EG equal 10 minutes at both positions. KG can say anything he wants about playing at 5 he rarely guards centers so EG can get additional minutes only at C. From what I saw he kinda struggles against centers with established post game.
3. To me he seems like natural PF. Not so much muscles to play 5, lacks speed and agility at 3. He's a big-time athlete. He's not a freak of nature like KG, T-Mac, Vince, but he's definitely 2-tier athlete in this league. Guy have rebounding and shot-blocking instincts(saw pre-draft report when his comparison in NBA was Timmy ;) ), has nice shooting touch. None ever questioned his work ethic but first two years he was in depression and worked more on his "personal baggage" than his game and then for a year was out of the league. In terms of developing his talent he's at max 21 not like 23. I think get him someone like Charles Oakley as a tutor(can make him tough post-defender and give him that nasty attitude) and EG can easily be next Ben Wallace. Add here nice offensive game and you have something pretty ;).
