That was that same old report -- the reason it was doubted was because it seemed to parrot a piece int he local Minnesota paper the same day whihc said that the Wolves had OFFERED Griffin that much, and then somebody (realgm maybe?) picked up the OFFER and misreported it as an acceptance,a nd then later in the day yahoo chimed in witht he acceptance report.

He might have accepted, but the way it happened certainly looke dlike it was simple sloppy reporting.

ESPN is also reporting that eddie griffin agreed to a 2 year $3.7 mil contract with minni, according to the St Paul Pioneer press... this is under the news section when you click on eddie griffin's stats... usually espn doesn't post info unless they verify it, but i hope they are wrong this time... thank the nba for extending the moritorium for signing FA until Monday or Tuesday, maybe petrie can still steal him away for a reasonable offer i.e 12mil/4yrs contract

hope this is false myself but thn again if Petrie didnt want a cheap shot blocker /rebounder tht can shoot, thn may b he will get us another one wth a BIG contract tht would produce till his knees blows out !!!! or not even 1 at all who know these dayz

reports that the twolves are very interested in Mo Evans... the kings still have the right to match any offer... so why not try to work out a sign and trade for Eddie Griffin... the twolves have already signed 3 big man this off season, not leaving very much minutes for griffin....

the kings can really use Eddie Griffin shot blocking and rebounding, while minni can really use Mo Evans to replace Sprewell... i think the kings should try and get this deal done now!!!

BTW, ESPN had previously noted that Griffin had come to terms on a two year $3.7mil contract with twolves, but today, when i checked it again, they have removed that statement from eddie's profile...

Eddie Griffin:

St Paul Pioneer Express (Minnesota area newspaper) is reporting that the Wolves have offered to resign their FA Eddie Griffin to a three year deal worth $1.8mil, $1.9mil, $2.0mil. For a player of his talents that is NOTHING. He is a restricted free agent, but if that is Minny's offer, even an MLE offer might be too rich for their blood when it comes to matching. They claim they want him back, but the money isn't talking.

So, with the number of young tall defensively minded players on the market rapidly dwindling, do we make an offer?

Griffin Postives:
-- tall/long (6'10" 240)
-- tremendous shotblocker
-- good rebounder
-- very good athlete
-- some outside skills, can play 3, 4, 5
-- only 23

Griffin Negatives:
-- a recovering psycho who punched out teammates in high school and college (he was there for one year), has had gun charges and drug charges, took a year off from bball due to his problems, and is coming off a short jail sentence this summer. Think he held it together for the Wolves last year though.
-- bad shot selection and likes to chuck up low percentage threes rather than use height on offense
-- is unfamiliar with the term "pass"

04/05 Stats:
21.3min 7.5pts (.387 FG% .328 3pt% .718 FT%) 6.5rebs 0.8ast 0.3stl 1.7blk 0.8TO

Dont leave beating the crap out of a lady till her face is black and blue. This guy has talent but I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

I'm with you, GreenKing. It's one thing to have an on-court attitude problem a la Bonzi Wells or Rasheed Wallace, it's quite another to struggle with alcoholism and domestic abuse (the guy plead guilty to punching AND shooting at a woman) and a host of other issues. You just can't brush away Eddie Griffin's significant baggage by comparing it to Bonzi or Rasheed. On the court issues usually don't ultimately hamper a player's effectiveness. As Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker so depressingly illustrate, off the court issues and substance abuse can destroy a player's career.

I wish the absolute best for Eddie Griffin as he deals with his issues, I would just be much more reluctant than most of you in bringing him in. And just as I will never, ever root for Jason Kidd, I would have major, MAJOR issues about rooting for someone who is a perpitrator of domestic violence. I like sports and basketball as much as the next guy, but my alliegence to the Kings does not extend to people who beat up on women.

"With Game 7 against the Detroit Pistons two days away, three Kings players have been charged with breaking and entering into a strip joint, assaulting an exotic dancer, and kicking and choking her dog. And, oh yeah, they were also high."

Definitely, a Evans/Griffin deal would be sweeeeetttt. I'd be perfectly fine if Mo went to the Wolves, he'd be great for them, like on just about any team. Probably the only place he could start too, other than the Rockets or Bobcats.

Seattle wanting Mo is freaking laughable though, they have so many of their own free-agents to concentrate on.

I like that idea a lot.

Always knew that Mo and KG were friends and was hoping for as reunification. Of course I was hoping for it to happen in Sacto, not Minny. ;)

Wouldn't bother me a bit to exchange Mo for one of those. I would even take Potapenko for him:).

Yeah, but that'd mean a S/T, which isn't what was mentioned in reference to Seattle in the articles about Mo, just "interest". I was talking about making offers and trying to sign Mo, when Seattle has plenty of free-agents they need to try and keep (including SG Wilkins) if they want to have a good bench (though won't be as good without Daniels gone now) like the past couple seasons. Which was a big part of their success last season.

In an S/T case, do Mo for Reggie Evans. :)

I just posted the same thing in the trade thread, I missed this one. Very good idea. If you sign Mo using the MLE then trade him, do you still get the MLE?

I wouldn't think so, you used it to sign him in the first place. Otherwise, you would in essence get two. That is one reason I think he has been on the back burner. As long as the MLE is available, the Kings are in the drivers seat. Who will blink first?
