Driving to the arena

Eastbound 80 to Truxel probably isn't a major route to the games, is it? Seems that coming from the West of the arena (say Davis or Woodland or even Marysville) the main exit would be either Del Paso or Arena from 5. Sounds as if Westbound 80 at Truxel is open, so Roseville etc. is covered. And again, coming from downtown you'd probably take 5 to Arena, not hop onto EB 80 to go around the corner a bit to catch Truxel. Best I can remember there's not a whole lot on EB 80 between 5 and Truxel, so there shouldn't be too many folks having to skip their favored exit.

Or am I missing something?

You're probably right. I will be taking either 80 west or Elkhorn to Natomas Blvd.

Restaurants right there might miss some pre-game diners.

Depends on the parking lot you want. People coming from downtown or West Sac can take I5 or west bound 80.

Cannot wait for next season at the G1 center. With that being said, enjoy this last season of easy entry in and out of sleep train. If your driving to the G1 center next year I don't see how that is not going to be just a complete and utter cluster F.

There's lots of parking downtown, the key is just that you won't want to go directly to the arena. You'll want to find a garage a few blocks away and walk the rest. People are going to be coming from all four directions. Should be fine. It's not the first downtown arena in the world!

Agreed. Or, like I plan to do when coming from home, is park at the CRC light rail station in Elk Grove and take light rail in.

But if I am coming from work, yeah, finding a convenient lot may take a bit of hunting around.

Actually, that reminds me of this!

In an effort to minimize what could be a mess, city officials signed a deal last week for $5.7 million in tech upgrades to garages, including one that will allow people to go online to buy a reserved spot in a city garage days or weeks ahead of time. The goal, says city parking chief Matt Eierman, is to create confident drivers coming into downtown for concerts or games. These drivers will know exactly where they are going and can be assured that a parking spots awaits.

“That is really important, so everybody is not on J Street at the same time,” Eierman said. “There are many access points to our city. You can do a lot of route planning before you even step foot into Sacramento.”

Finding parking will kind of suck but I'm thinking more of the exodus out of downtown. For anyone who navigates the streets of downtown/midtown during rush hour you know that that Bee article does a good job of downplaying the traffic nightmare the city is going to face next year.

You have the I st exit onto I-5, the L st exit onto I-5, and 3rd street(surface streets) to hwy 50. You can take 7th street to Richards to I-5. Other than that your doing surface streets east to the capital city freeway. Ouch. Those streets during rush hour are a mess. I just can't imagine what its gonna be like after a game. I feel for you people who are stuck driving.

Actually, there are a lot more people leaving downtown after work than will be leaving the arena after an event.

I'm still glad I'll be able to take light rail.

I do think the parking technology being put in should help considerably.

If you look at the numbers, my recollection is that the post-game "rush" will be about 1/10 of a rush hour commute (been a year or so, but I think that is what the analysis showed). Don't sweat it. Doubt it will be any worse than getting out of the existing facility parking lot. That takes a long time, too.
