Dribble, dribble, dribble...

Mozart

G-League
...jack up a wild shot. Clang. With mostly the other team around the basket to rebound, or

...force a layup with an offensive foul, or

...force a ineffectual pass to another King dude, who would then have to get a hurried shot off to beat the shot clock. Clang. Or,

...shoot some good shots, but not enough of the to justify the stagnation of the offense with the dribble-heavy approach, instead of a pass-first approach.

Katie in HPL pointed out that the big problem with Garcia's dribbling is that he's looking down at the floor while he's dribbling, thus missing the open cutters, so that's really hurting the normally-pass-oriented offense.

Garcia really has got to stop his excessive dribbling and, most of all, LOOK UP while dribbling--see the WHOLE floor, not just the spots where the ball hits.

Salmons, too; and Douby. Far too much isolation play.

There's no "I" in T.E.A.M., you know--do Garcia/Salmons/Douby know?

They are not playing T.E.A.M.-first. That has to change.

That's exactly why all three are on the bench when Beno Udrih got here and Ron Artest got back from his suspension. Beno played in a Spurs system that would never allow all that constant pounding of the ball. Beno is the best recent thing that's happened to the Sacramento Kings since.... hmmm... since Ron arrived and led the team on a miraculous drive into the playoffs.

After getting 31 pts. career high, Petrie should start shopping Garcia to some other teams now. He and Douby along with KT/SAR package is pretty decent to land us better bench players that are much better distributors.

His 31pts on 25 positions is a pretty much of a ball hog stats!
Martin's play is very much affected by this ball hogging!
KM is a great player who plays well with very good distributors since he runs well without the ball.

If the team's supposed to run and gun, too much dribbling should cause every player to be yanked.

Yah, noticed that too.. I was saying in other posts that if we had a team out there of Miller/Hawes/Salmons/Martin/Udrih that the assists would go way up... Artest,a nd Garcia are ball hogs. Salmons really isn't that bad. Not as bad as Garcia, and Artest.

I dont understand this post, artest isnt nearly as bad as some of you say. Salmons is the worst one and garia tries to make plays that just arent there. The reason they ran so much iso at arco is because ron was killing them and everyone else seemed afraid to shoot.

This team is no fun to watch. Just boring isolation play usually ending up in an offensive foul or fade away shot. I can hardly finish watching any game it gets so boring...Nothing like the team play we had gotten used to years ago.(No need to dream about those days again) I hope Petrie puts something together and get rid of some of these guys(namely Garcia and KT in my opinion).

Interesting how a player can go from a young guy with potential who should be getting minutes to a guy we want to get rid of. I don't disagree with your analysis. Garcia does dribble the ball too much, as does Douby and some times Salmons. I think Salmons at least has an idea of what he's trying to do. The other guys, well, who knows.
Garcia was asked to play pt last night, and he's not a pt, he's a SF. I think its too early to pass judgement right now. I think he can play on this team in a different capacity. Give him time to learn. Be patient.

The truth is, that this team is going nowhere anyway. Young guys always want to impress, and remember, in college they were the offensive threats on their team. Its hard for them to adjust to a new idea of how to play the game. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water...

This is a team in transition and I don't mean the offense. They have a coach who is learning how to coach in the NBA and a coach and team getting to know each other AND it's the beginning of the season. Hopefully the offense will become more sophisticated as time passes.

Passing needs to be emphasized and unfortunately we have a coach of little experience. I have no idea what he will do about this problem. Where's Pete Carill when we need him?

A problem with having a team with so many young guys manning important spots is that they are young. The only cure for that problem (other than trading them all away) is to teach them and be patient as the years pass. Experience cannot be purchased or gained in trade. Maybe the dribbling, dribbling, dribbling will pass. (pun intended)

I can hardly believe an analysis that a team is going nowhere when there are a few young studs developing. Martin will get better and maybe spectacular. Hawes might be very, very good although it's a little early even to predict. Cisco's brain may become totally connected from side to side and front to back so he won't be a Jeckyl and Hyde on the court.

They're learning and I think it's worth the wait.

I'd really like to know how much of the one-on-one is Theus's doing and how much is players' doing. One the one hand, Theus may have just given up on this being much of a passing team because he thinks he doesn't have the passing talent to do it. Maybe he figures he'll just ask them to go one-on-one because they don't have the capability of doing much else. It's better to get a bad shot than a turnover, right? On the other hand, maybe the guys on the court are doing their own thing because, well because they want to do their own thing. It's really hard to figure. In the Phoenix game I saw Salmons taking a turnaround jumper on the baseline while being closely guarded. Miki was in plain view and open for an 18 foot shot. Is that OK with Theus? Again, it's hard to know because maybe Theus thinks he'd rather have Salmons take a turnaround jump shot while being guarded than Miki take an open 18 footer.

I'm not thrilled when the point guard does this also.

Maybe it's Reggie's choice like Kingster wonders about but I don't think it'll get us anywhere. I could go to a playgound to see this and it's too easy to defend with no mandated man to man defense.

I don't think it's Reggie's choice...

It's hammer time then. Udrih did his one to one thing with nary a pass and then Garcia grabbed the ball soon after and came down the court and looked cool for awhile and then let fly. Kinda like an all star game - the guy who takes the ball down the court gets the most shots. Grrrr.
