Draft position thread

In fact, the bulk of the interconference matchups haven't happened yet, so everybody in the East is going to dip a bit. We finish as a playoff team in the east, in my guesstimate. Then there are the Lakers (should end up in the bottom in the West), Utah (not as strong as the Kings with a healthy Cousins) and New Orleans (ditto, I think) that we're likely to pass up by playing close to our ability. But I don't see us passing Denver/Minny/Memphis or any of the current West playoff teams.

Barring injuries. Had to accent that as I know you said it. When Gay was added to the team we had a poll as to the effect he would have on the team. We were doing poorly yet at that point , except for Landry, were injury free. That can't last. Injuries are a part of the game. One injury to IT and we are dead. We are placing an awful lot of our season on the faith that he can play extended minutes, albeit poorly, because we have no one better. It is very, very risky.
 
No, it's not much to fret over but still it's there and the Kings have seemed to have had the luck of coming to the worst possible outcome or close to it. Strong second half coming getting no higher than the #11 shot would suit me fine.

If I was a betting man I think that's how Id roll, but I may be underestimaTing this team. We could indeed continue an upward trend once everyone is healthy rendering my guesswork meaningless

In theory there's one team, where Gordon could definitely play 3, and that's Phoenix. With Frye as PF and plenty outside shooting Gordon would fit right in, but outside of such specific situation it's really hard to find big minutes at the 3 for him.
As for W/L for the rest of season IF Kings return to the form prior to double injury, it means every game without Thunder, Pacers, Heat (with Wade) or Spurs (with two of Parker, Leonard and Splitter back) in it is at least W/L and bottom 5 in the East plus Lakers is an automatic W.

I agree on Gordon. Right now he looks like a man without a position. Too small to play the PF spot, and can't shoot good enough to play the SF spot. Of course you can always gamble that he'll be able to shoot down the road. He's certainly athletic enough to play SF. I certainly hope the Kings aren't willing to gamble. He would however be a defensive presence if that's what your looking for.

The Kings have 37 games left, and if they went 19 and 18, a very optimistic goal, they would end up with a 34 and 48 record. I doubt, based on the previous 45 games that 19 and 18 is realistic, but if indeed they did accomplish that, it would still leave them far short of the playoffs, and I suspect choosing somewhere between 9 and 12, maybe 7 and 12. If I could just find my damm crystal ball!

yeah that's the thing. He's trying so hard to play the 3 offensively. D-Will is a 3 who's just not quick enough to guard other 3s. He's also a player that can post up, but his position is more of a 3. Gordon is a 4(in today's NBA) who thinks he's a 3.. he's too much of a tweener.
 
Lakers being thoroughly beaten at home by Charlotte. They really look that bad. Over the hill Gasol and a collection of scrubs. I'd have to agree that it would be unlikely they wouldn't pass us in draft position
 
Mighty convenient that the year LA is bad, this is the year. If history is going to hold stout, they'll end up with a better player than us somehow from this draft. Going to hope Vivek has changed our juju.
 
Cuz coming back tonight from the early indications I am hearing. To be honest I wouldn't have had a problem with the kings sitting him until he was 160 percent healthy. Til, say, a week after the all star break, which might have hemmed us into top 5 position. I understand though why you don't want to purposely hold guys out when you are building a winning team
 
If Kobe comes back, the Lakers will not finish last. Probably Utah in this case or even us.
Nash just came back and almost had a double double in his first game back. Not saying much but at least he's in good form. I think once Kobe comes back, they'll be on track.

They'll probably end up with Wiggins who will be a future hall of famer under their organization. Perfect replacement for Kobe. They'll have a lot of salary cap space come next year when big players like Lebron James, Kevin Love, and co will become free agents and they'll sign 1 or 2 more star players. Come 2016, they'll be in the playoffs and making deep runs. That's what happens when you're a large market team hmphhhhhh
 
Lakers might have cap space, but next season is lost for sure (even with some big salary signing or trade not enough money to field a balanced roster in this killer West), so anyone coming in this off-season will have to take that into consideration. Kobe will eat one third of cap space for the next two seasons, so getting third big salary guy is next to impossible, and then in two years Kobe is likely retired...

Remains to be seen how the Lakers operate under Not-Jerry Buss. Thus far, their track record has been craptastic. They also hamstrung themselves for the immediate future by offering a large contract extension to Kobe despite his streak of injuries.

And for all the talk about Kevin Love being a superstar, he's the one way player that everyone claims Demarcus to be.
 
Lakers need it more anyways. Is there anything on their roster now that can be considered a solid piece heading forward?
 
Lakers are up 26 points after 21 minutes of play in Cleveland. I'm ready to proclaim great 5 in Bucks, Magic, Sixers, Celtics and Cavs unreachable for Kings. Still sure Lakers will be behind as well.
P.S. Might be time to call Cavs about trading for "winning now" guard in Marcus Thornton.

People tend to forget Love has never made the playoffs either. And cousins at this point is a much better defender.

Love's numbers, alas, are fairly ridiculous.

as much as I hate the Lakers, Wiggins would probably develop very well with the Lakers. Player development is very important...I think to get the most out of Wiggins potential, he has to play behind a vets for a few years and learn from them. Kobe would be great for him

Love has an all around offensive game.. you can't say the same about Cuz.
 
Love is a superstar even though I hate the guy. He has a 6th sense.

Kobe is done. He can't lead Lakers to the NBA finals any more. That contract they gave him is just idiotic. They'll get a top 5 draft pick for sure. Either a Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, Exum or (insert name)

A potential hall of famer. Next season, they'll suck again and get a good draft pick for the second season in a row (a couple good prospects in next years draft).
So, they'll have two potential stars there (2014/15 drafts) plus an expiring Kobe and they'll be able to sign at least 1 player but probably 2 after they offload Gasol and a few others.
More than likely, I see Kevin Love going over there. He's a perfect star player. Quiet and obeys and doesn't have an ego like Kobe/Howard.
Lakers will make a deep run in 2016 as Kobe is ready to retire. I say they lose in the finals to Thunder or something but who knows what the NBA will look like at that moment. Might as well consider any team that picks up Lebron (if he leaves) an NBA Champ contender


To be quite frank, I like their position better than ours. We have a more confusing plan at hand. Cousins is the only thing that I savour and he's a franchise player that is likely to be a top 5 player in the NBA after Lebron, Durant, Paul George and really that's about it
Cousins has more upside than George as well so he's looking at an impressive career to be honest.
With Cousins on the floor, Kings are a completely different team no matter who you pair him up with.
Plus he gets along with Gay and if we can get a Rondo or someone similar, we'll have a really good team here. Hopefully, shot blocker comes in draft and Ben Mac gets hit with miracle bug.

What?
Lakers is basically a team in contract season. They demolished Cavs on their court, because everyone works for their new contract or even NBA career. D'Antoni gimmick offense is perfect for meaningless wins over the sucky teams. How about they get 6th pick, don't pick up anyone from the top of the draft, get better this off-season, finish 11th in the West. Picking up Love?! So scared, I guess, they don't need to play out 15/16 season...
Lakers will be fine at some point in the near future, but they are screwed for the duration of Kobe's contract.
 
Speaking of draft position, Nuggets and Pelicans took care of their home court, and Kings are still 41/2 games from dropping out of top 10 in the draft, 8 games from losing pick to Chicago. Let's build winning culture, pick is not going anywhere.

Why would you want your PF/C shooting 3s?? Until love plays defense and makes his teammates better he isn't a superstar. Cousins is already a good 1on1 defender and a good passer
