Would anyone have touted Donte as our future shooter last Dec when Omri was still shooting close to 50% from 3? Ummm.... no.
Both these guys are inconsistent, and I'm sure we all hope they improve in that department. But given the constant ups and downs young players go through, and both Omri and Donte go through, how would a 2 game stretch in the LVSL prove any kind of consistency?
Now, Donte is taller, a better one on one player, getting better at handling the ball, and is stonger with the ball than Omri, and therefor should be able to get his shot off without much assistance. Donte is also a more natural shooter, all you have to look at is his stroke and arc he puts on the ball. His problem is shooting off balance. But Donte's release is beautiful, he has a lot of arc on his shot, and a high release. My guess is Donte becomes a better shooter than Omri, unless Omri fixes his shot.
Omri is a decent spot up shooter, but there is something goofy about his form. He not only has a low release, and doesn't get much arc on the ball, but he has a little bit of a hitch on his shot. His FT's as well. IMO, until he fixes those things, consistency with FG% will always be an issue, although he wouldn't be the first player to shoot a high % with not so good form. But from a mechanical standpoint, mixed with size and athletic ability, Donte has all the tools at this point to be the better of the two.
