According to numerous league sources, a trade sending Kings players Brad Miller and John Salmons to Chicago in exchange for Andres Nocioni, Drew Gooden, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons has been agreed upon and is pending league approval.

The deal also involves Portland, with Ike Diogu coming to the Kings for Ruffin. The Kings are also expected to receive approximately $1 million in the trade with Portland.

The Kings are not only a bad team, but an expensive bad team that has a payroll of $69 million. And at a time when they desperately need to improve their salary cap situation for the future, this trade saves them approximately $13.5 million in salary cap room for next season. It could potentially make them more relevant in the free agent market this summer or allow the payroll flexibility to be more active on the trade front after this season. Beyond next season, though, Nocioni's contract will add $6.9 million to payroll in 2010-11 and $6.7 million in 2011-12. Gooden, Ruffin and Simmons all have expiring contracts worth $7.1 million, $1.1 million, and $1.7 million respectively.

The only way this trade makes sense is that Petrie feels we can't be big players in the 2010 sweepstakes and is trying to get under the cap to make a splash this summer. Hopefully it's by making a push for Sessions.

I guess this makes sense for the Bulls in that they got more talent and unloaded the longest and worst contract in the deal. I'm confused why Salmons had to be included here. They have Deng and Gordon and it would seem there won't be piles of playing time for Salmons on that team. Just wish feels like we could have sent him to someone who had more need for him and hence he was more valuable to.

Nocioni is the new Kenny Thomas. Comes in at age 29, signed through the 11/12 season at $6.5 million when he'll be 32. He's ALREADY an albatross.

Seems like this was just a short term dump to save money for next season. Just a horrendous, horrendous trade.

I do like Diogu and feel like he's never really gotten to get a shot, but now that we have Drew freaking Gooden he'll probably still be stuck at the end of the bench.

Just an unbelievably horrible trade that seems to have been motivated purely by financial considerations.

Does this move put us under the cap enough to get SESSIONS??

Why is everyone so down on Nocioni? I really like the guy. Four years and $28.4 million is basically MLE money. It's not bad for a player in his prime with his ability.

He was good two years ago, but he's been really bad since, not shooting well or rebounding or hustling. He's on the decline already and his contract is horrible.

We're now paying Beno and Nocioni $12 million. Ridiculous.

nice, we can finally play our young bigs. nocioni isn't that bad of a player. he was slated to make around the same kinda jack as salmons except hes a team player. not a great trade but we cleared room for garcia, jason thompson and hawes to get extended minutes.

on another note.. i hope they cut drool gooden right away. the guy is a scrub

What a disgrace. Is there a more poorly run team in basketball right now that has a less promising future? Rebuilds take time but this one looks to be eternal. No wonder I watch fewer games every season.

OK this part of the trade I want Petrie to listen and listen closely......

DO NOT under any circumstance re-sign Gooden after this season if he "over-performs" from now until the end of the year.. Petrie has a history of paying players that perform in contract years.. He needs to NOT do this..

And this is to Natt... DO NOT start Gooden over Thompson.
