My issue is his game and performance in the playoffs.

We need to stop talking about the regular season like it matters that much.

Stars need to perform in the playoffs and if they don't perform in the playoffs why does it matter what they do in the regular season.

Sabonis was god awful in the playoffs, but he still deserves this contract. He's the main reason why we even made the playoffs in the first place. Securing 1 of your 2 franchise cornerstones is an important move for this team. What's the alternative option? Let him test out FA next year? He might not come back... and we'd have no replacement for him.

I don't understand why no one will answer this, but why was he comfortable shooting open looks in the regular season and all of a sudden just flat stopped in the playoffs? A big part of his jump to All-NBA last year was the fact he was willing to take open jumpers. Something happened behind the scenes with his finger imo and I'm not going to worry about it at all unless he stops shooting next year/next playoffs too.

AND despite all that, if Huerter and HB play like actual NBA players, we win the series in 6 games.

You are spot on. Vivek isn't cheap, he just had faith in Monte (who wouldn't after his track record for turning the Kings around finally with bold moves and roster construction). Monte has his vision with the help of Mike Brown and has said as much in interviewz.

Being objective about something isn't doom and gloom I don't live in fantasy land where I pretend issues don't exist.

I'm a kings fan too and I just see things how I see them.

Well deserved. I was never worried we would lose him in free agency. There really wasn’t a more natural fit for Domas in the NBA so there is no feeling of relief, but I’m glad it’s settled.

He’ll continue to improve any shortcomings. His jumper. Domas is a skill player. Despite being a physical player he’s not a mere brute. IHe has touch and finesse even even if the injuries and the grind piled on him last All star All NBA season. He’ll do what he has to do to maximize his potential. Honestly, the only problem with his jumper is that he doesn’t take enough of them.

Now all eyes on Malik Monk to ball out in his contract year.

Because Sabonis take good shots. He usually feeds everybody before it's his turn. In other words, he would be shooting when he see the clock it running out. In the Playoffs, it was too early most of the time and he doesn't feel comfortable shooting early in the shot clock...that's what I think. And so it messed up his mentality...he was not the type that like to shoot early in the shot clock.

He 100% is leaving money on the table, though he does get a nice bump this year to make up for some of it.

Not trying to be a downer… but I don’t know if he gave up any type of substantial money. According to an Athletic article written before this extension, it stated:

“Should Sabonis wait until he is an unrestricted free agent next summer, his max contract could start around an estimated $42.2 million, extend five years and make him substantially more over the course of the deal.”

The actual deal he received is averaging out to be $43.4million… someone is pushing out great PR for Sabonis who just got paid a brinks tank lol. Weird spin

do 10% raises on 42.2 million and you are north of 60 in the last year.

42.2 + 46.42 + 51.062 +56.1682 + 61.78502 = 257.63522 =North of 51.5 million average.

He didn't respond well, missed FTs and jumpers, and most especially missed gimmers - probably a good dozen of them in aggregate. He did not play well enough vs the Warriors overall and wasn't alone either.....he may get a chance to redeem that next year.
