DOMAS BACK!!!

In the world where he underperformed in the playoffs which is what matters.

And yes the contracts are ridiculous so I see your point there.
Embiid underperformed once or twice. You don't just disrespect them over it, when offering a contract. That's bad business.

That team had so much fun over the past year. They do it again and advance even one round and Sacramento is back on the map and media darlings.

I'm sorry, I dont understand you're doom and gloom about what happened last year and what is currently happening.

We all know this move means, barring a stupid run of injuries (our players seem to be iron men, not Kawhi Leonards/London Ball's) we will compete for a championship for the next 3-5 years.

Why so salty about that?

Edit: people talking about Vivek being cheap. Eat your crow. Vivek let Monte operate and Monte used his cap space perfectly while building something. I'm here for it.

Do the Kings save any money signing Sabonis this off season vs waiting until next off season? I know in previous years, players would have to leave some money on the table for the security of signing their extensions a year early.

You are right in the fact that this is something you have to do to secure him.

My issue is his game and performance in the playoffs.

We need to stop talking about the regular season like it matters that much.

Stars need to perform in the playoffs and if they don't perform in the playoffs why does it matter what they do in the regular season.

Was Domas worth 43 mil in the playoffs?

He wasn't.

He looked like a scrub at times.

Just calling it like I see it but I still agree that this is something you have to do and that I like Domas I think he can get to where he needs to get
Sabonis was god awful in the playoffs, but he still deserves this contract. He's the main reason why we even made the playoffs in the first place. Securing 1 of your 2 franchise cornerstones is an important move for this team. What's the alternative option? Let him test out FA next year? He might not come back... and we'd have no replacement for him.

Starting 5 + Sasha now locked in for 3 years, only Monk needs a new deal soon
And hopefully very soon. I see people throw his name around in trade discussions and i really think we'd rue the day we ever just threw him into some random deal. He's flat out integral to what we do right now.

I'll start getting on Domas's playoff performance when he goes in not at 50% health. Gets stomped on, gets a black eye, broken finger. Fox was bad after he broke his finger, should we get on him too?

I don't understand why no one will answer this, but why was he comfortable shooting open looks in the regular season and all of a sudden just flat stopped in the playoffs? A big part of his jump to All-NBA last year was the fact he was willing to take open jumpers. Something happened behind the scenes with his finger imo and I'm not going to worry about it at all unless he stops shooting next year/next playoffs too.

AND despite all that, if Huerter and HB play like actual NBA players, we win the series in 6 games.
Not sure if I buy that but I hope you're right.

Looks he was just straight refusing to shoot mid range Js and blaming it on the hand which he had broken a huge part of the year seems odd.

I think he simply didn't have confidence in the shot and I think he needs to fix that

Rough day for the Vivek is cheap crowd.

Technically spent $20 mil with the Vezenkov contract for the 2nd we traded last year.
-Traded 24 so we could spend $200 mil on our franchise player.

Ouch.
You are spot on. Vivek isn't cheap, he just had faith in Monte (who wouldn't after his track record for turning the Kings around finally with bold moves and roster construction). Monte has his vision with the help of Mike Brown and has said as much in interviewz.

That literally makes no sense.

You're saying it's more likely he got "scared to shoot" in the playoffs than he had some sort of setback with his finger and couldn't shoot?

Chill out.

Being objective about something isn't doom and gloom I don't live in fantasy land where I pretend issues don't exist.

I'm a kings fan too and I just see things how I see them.

You must have had an eye mask on during the playoffs.

Why live in fantasy land?

Not living in fantasy land is not the same thing as being negative, don't get it twisted.

And what the eff is disrespectful about being truthful to a player?

Life is about accountability and if we're not going to be accountable for things well be prepared to see **** shows happen.

Domas had a setback with his finger during the playoffs that didn't exist since December?

That's news to me

Well deserved. I was never worried we would lose him in free agency. There really wasn’t a more natural fit for Domas in the NBA so there is no feeling of relief, but I’m glad it’s settled.

He’ll continue to improve any shortcomings. His jumper. Domas is a skill player. Despite being a physical player he’s not a mere brute. IHe has touch and finesse even even if the injuries and the grind piled on him last All star All NBA season. He’ll do what he has to do to maximize his potential. Honestly, the only problem with his jumper is that he doesn’t take enough of them.

Now all eyes on Malik Monk to ball out in his contract year.

Alright sure dude.

He was perfectly fine shooting open jumpers for 82 games and shot those well. And then he got scared to shoot in the playoffs.

Let's run with that!
Loss of confidence is a thing in sports not sure why this is so far fetched to you.

He got worked by the Warriors, it could have thrown him off his game thus resulting in a loss of confidence in his game.

**** happens.

I'm sure of this too, I think he's a hard worker

Because Sabonis take good shots. He usually feeds everybody before it's his turn. In other words, he would be shooting when he see the clock it running out. In the Playoffs, it was too early most of the time and he doesn't feel comfortable shooting early in the shot clock...that's what I think. And so it messed up his mentality...he was not the type that like to shoot early in the shot clock.

He 100% is leaving money on the table, though he does get a nice bump this year to make up for some of it.

Come on man….I love this team. This is what continuity, stability, and a long term vision gets you.
Not trying to be a downer… but I don’t know if he gave up any type of substantial money. According to an Athletic article written before this extension, it stated:

“Should Sabonis wait until he is an unrestricted free agent next summer, his max contract could start around an estimated $42.2 million, extend five years and make him substantially more over the course of the deal.”

The actual deal he received is averaging out to be $43.4million… someone is pushing out great PR for Sabonis who just got paid a brinks tank lol. Weird spin

do 10% raises on 42.2 million and you are north of 60 in the last year.

42.2 + 46.42 + 51.062 +56.1682 + 61.78502 = 257.63522 =North of 51.5 million average.

Meh. Your take is garbage. Stinks of over reactionary doom. Not a whole lot of middle ground, all worst case scenario type crap.

Thanks for trying to promote life lessons and all, but this is sports. I'll raise my kids a bit differently than I'll evaluate sports move, jeez.

So with the 8.6 additional this year, that leaves roughly $5mm in space after the Duarte trade and Barnes Extension.

Vezenkov into room exception.

Lyles early bird.

Len, minimum so no cap space use.

Anything I’m forgetting?

This is an overpay imo.

Sabonis needs to make sure he doesn't get worked by the Looney's of the league next year.

At the same time I trust that he's going to put in the work to make sure that doesn't happen again, or at least I hope so.

A midrange J would go a long way in helping Domas's game im

If we can knock that midrange J down he's worth that contract
If you include the playoffs performance, I might agree - but they have no choice - kind of like when they resigned Webber all those years ago......Sabonis lost confidence during the playoff series and it showed. I think it is difficult for him to get a little selfish offensively on the court......he's said on a few different occasions how he likes to get his teammates involved, and the Warriors got very physical with him. He didn't respond well, missed FTs and jumpers, and most especially missed gimmers - probably a good dozen of them in aggregate. He did not play well enough vs the Warriors overall and wasn't alone either.....he may get a chance to redeem that next year.

Yea I hope so.

I hope he just figures it out and I'm sure he's very aware of his poor play.

Still young, he's not a finished product yet imo
