Someone explain to me why somebody would pay forty dollars for doggie steps, when you can get a stepstool for six bucks at Target?

For the same reason some people pay $3 a can for specially flavored gourmet food to give to animal who would just as soon lick his own private parts or consume previously digested cat food.

Well OF COURSE they'd prefer to consume previously digested cat food...
(that presumably has been transformed into delicious cat flesh)

Just bad shopping.

Same reason people pay $5.99 for a box of "Kitty Litter Deodorizer" when you can buy a box of regular Arm & Hammer for 99 cents. I even buy the carpet deodorizer that comes in the super size box for about 1.50 a box which is just baking soda plus frangrance, which is exactly the same ingredients as the litter deoderizer.

Then there is the kitty litter liners where you get about 8 per box for about 6 bux, but if you buy the super leaf size garbage bags that come out to lay flat, they will fit on the box (you can get these from costco or sam's w/2 huge rolls) for about the same price. I don't use news papers because - well - they leak through.

I can go on and on...

Slim,
you are obviously shopping in the wrong place. I got mine free :D

to get to the real point. Dogs especially the poodle and Bichon kind like soft things for their paws. A step stool is less inviting. You can guarantee that my poodle will always lay on something that is soft. Dogs will scrunch\dig at the thing they are lying on before laying down.

My bichon always lays on something soft. He does the scrunch/dig at the thig he is going to lay on and its soooo funny just watching him do this.
