Kings C DeMarcus Cousins holding annual free youth 2-day basketball camp in Sacramento. Caught up on a wide range of topics.

He's dedicated, he's ready, now all the other Kings parts need to be ready, hungry next season. Can Boogie All NBA First Team be in the offing next season? I'm sure #15 would trade it for Kings playoff run in a second. Go Team USA and Rio Gold!

20 pounds lighter? wow very impressive work Boogie. This will only help you moving forward. Stamina should be much improved and less weight on the knees. I suppose we get a sneak peak of this new Boogie in Rio....hopefully he doesn't regain the weight before or during the season.

I rather doubt that he's 20lbs lighter, as that makes him A.D. scrawny.

Also BTW, haven't bothered mentioning this because some on this board seem a little confused over this player, but: Matt Barnes

Been an obvious thought ever since Joerger arrived. Sacto boy, defensive wing, with Joerger roots.

I wouldn't be opposed to it. Actually kinda wished we could have gotten him back for years even though he's a knucklehead. Bookend his career with the Kings.

Since I know Matt, I'm on board. he's one of those guys that you hate to play against, but love when he's on your team.

Probably from the end of the year. He looked like he was the heaviest he's been since his rookie year at the end of last season.

Just like how I felt about Andres Nocioni, hated him on the other squads, but absolutely loved him here for his stint.

From the Ham article:
Midway through the camp, Memphis Grizzlies forward and Sacramento native Matt Barnes dropped in to say hello and do some work with the kids. Barnes, 36, played under Joerger last season and would love nothing more than to finish up his career in his home town. Whether that is an option or not is unknown at this time.

Who knows if Vlade feels the same way but I could see it happening. If we spend our money on the PG and SG position and we continue to play Omri at backup PF we could use another cheap and tough defensive backup SF for 15 min per game.

I'd like Barnes on this team. He's a scrappy guy and recently just played under Joerger. He was really good with the Clipps, so that's the level of play I'd expect out of him, but nothing more than 15mpg.

Just curious without getting too personal/nosey, how did you get connected to Barnes?

I always worry too much about the weight gains/losses of big men. If he truly lost 20 pounds can he still keep his interior defense and post-play at a high level? Yet, at the same time, with the newly developed 3-point shot and noticeably improved driving game (golf pun not intended) will be even better. I'm torn.

Well, Bogut is on his last legs, and MGasol just experienced Yao's killer leg injury, which has killed careers of all the big man, who suffered through it (Embiid had the same injury btw, though he's the only one, who picked it at a young age, while Gasol is the oldest), so the last two big guys, who gave Boogie most trouble, are very likely done, meaning no need to carry as much weight to bang. That said, no way DMC dropped 20 pounds, maybe 10-12 plus very very big dinner.

20 pounds without a huge amount of bodyfat to loose sounds a lot. I hope his natural strength doesn't suffer too much.
But being lighter might help his driving and outside game and most of all his defense on the perimeter.
If he wants to adapt to the faster playstyle and to go down the finesse over brute force route even further he needs to develop ways to get away from contact. Less bullying more efficient scoring, less Shaq more Hakeem. I don't doubt he is talented to do that, but somewhere deep down inside me I want Boogie to play like this huge, physical, hard nosed bad ass. As great as AD or KAT are, I always liked Boogie more for his intensity and his ability to absorb contact.
I'm torn too - I understand the reasoning and my head tells me it's the right thing to do, but I don't like it.

It's cool he's just dropping weight to spite Karl. 12 months too late boogie. We ain't running and pushing the tempo no more thank god

Yeah, he's not 20lbs lighter. He looks in very good shape, but his body fat wasn't very high to start with (despite Ailene's obsession), he just wasn't particularly muscular. He's mostly natural size/strength. Would be very difficult to expect someone like him to lose 20lbs. He's probably lost about 10lbs I'd imagine, which may help with stamina (although this wasn't a problem either).

Is there anyone more lovable than Cuz?! It near brings a tear to my eye to see how committed he is to Sac, and I'm not even from that continent. Absolutely insane that a contingent are against him. He gives everything for the city and team. Cannot wait to see how we do with a good coach - only the second one that appears to be on the same page as our superstar.

Nao se preoculpe, cara! Those guys are going to have great security. Rio will be a landmine of theft and possibly some serious crime amongst travellers, but the athletes will be fine. Great comment from Cuz that the US has their own problems at home, I wasn't expecting that retort but it's true.

I suspect Double K is talking about the zika virus, not crime.

Boogie looks fantastic.

And given how he and Joerger are communicating I'm sure this is with the blessing of his new head coach. He's smart enough to know that Cousins can play in the post but is best served using whichever advantage works - post scoring, shooting, driving. He may not put up the same raw stats as in Karl's offense but I think we're going to see DMC utilized better next season than in any so far in his career.

You are probably right, for some reason that didn't even cross my mind. All the same, I trust that the US medical staff will be more than prepared for everything. I'd be very surprised if there were to be any situation.

Even if he didn't lose 20lbs I'm sure it's part of the plan to lighten up some especially since he hobbles around like an old man after games. Less weight on those feet the better imo.

Ailene Voison was right all along despite protestations of the majority. She harped all season long how he was slow to get back in transition and opponents exploited the ease with which the opposing big could beat Boogie down the floor. I think we are already seeing the Dave Joerger Effect which is to say our new coach wants to play lock down defense and knows he needs his best player to anchor that defense, not be the last man down court huffing and puffing and barking at the refs. As an aside, George Karl intimated Boogie needed to get in better shape, and fans acted like this was an affront when all he was doing was speaking truth.

I would guess he's 10 pounds (not 20) lighter which will still make a big difference in agility, lightness on his feet, extra ability to blow by opponents without hindering his ability to punish players down low. Good for Boogie. I am off the Trade Boogie Bandwagon for a Ransom if he maintains and improves upon his conditioning, wins a gold medal and is used similarly to how Karl used him with a few more touches off the block. Hopefully he's working on his post game too, specifically a half hook to the middle. A better conditioned Boogie is a Boogie that will more likely stay healthy, instead of being in and out of the line-up with assortment of maladies. This Boogie can have a career season, get his TS% over 55%, his assist to turnovers above 1.0, and lead us to the playoffs instead of being the west coast version of Kevin Love.

you and Ailene have a good night. Maybe catch a movie. I hear Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 was good.

P.S. Dave Joerger's big men were Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Think about it.
