DMC issued statement

Saw this coming. We all know how Westphail like flexin his coaching power.
Not that I'm in the locker room or really know what's being said, but outside of maybe JT and Hayes I can't think of any other players that believe in what PW is preaching, and that's the crux of the matter, IMO. if your players don't believe and aren't inspired then that's exactly what you get on the court...lethargy and dysfunction.

I'm pretty sure Salmons is on board. and with that I bet Tyreke and Thornton.

Oh I'm not doubting that fact one bit...but nothing about Westphal is inspiring...and you need an inspirational coach if you want energy on the court in todays NBA...especially with as young of roster as we have.
Well I think we can all agree. Fire PW after DC comes back to Planet Earth. And lets win this damn championship before the world ends!

Tyreke's recent quotes don't really suggest that he's on board but rather that he's just kind of going along with it. It's not in his nature to be rebellious to the coach like Cousins. Clearly his words say that personally he doesn't think much of Westphal's offense, though.

This whole matter is turning very ugly. At this point, it boils down to Cousins' word versus Westphal's word. Who is telling the truth? Who is exaggerating? What exactly went down between them?

Although Cousins has had his temper tantrums in the past, he has never done anything that would make me question his truthfulness. That is, he's never done anything that would make me believe he is a liar.

Westphal, on the other hand, has made numerous statements that appear designed to imply a recuring pattern of bad behavior from Cousins. Westphal said that this was "the tip of the iceberg," and refused to comment or give specifics beyond that. Westphal appears to be attempting to smear Cousins' reputation. It is a dirty trick to make us believe that Cousins is a bad guy, and therefore must be lying about the trade demand.

Westphal has had his clashes in the past, and has singled out players in the past. I think we all remember his clash with Spencer Hawes.

I am fed up with Westphal. He needs to go. DMC is immature, and hot-headed, but I don't believe he is a liar. Westhphal appears to be exaggerating, and being intentionally vague so as to make us imagine the situation is worse that it appears. Westphal must be replaced.

We also need an official statement from Petrie. Petrie has been laying low, and we need some definitive statement from him.

Lol. The impression I have of Reke is that he's too nice to be confrontational. The world could be ending tomorrow and I feel like he'd shrug and be like "Well...what can you do?". A little exaggeration, but my point is that he's not one to stand against something up front and get angry, he's very chill and seems to be the go along with it sort of guy.

Not a knock against him by any means. Just in comparison to the "speak his mind and be confrontational" person that DMC is.

Petrie did make a statement to the media that he had "no intention of trading Cousins," and that "situation was about Cousins maturity." Really rather tame and sounding typical Petrie - saying as little as possible. Of course, we know he met with Cousins right before the plane left for Memphis but no word on that discussion.

Jason Jones tweeted: Petrie on his meeting w/ Cousins: "We did not agree on everything but that’s OK.”

Sometimes even when Petrie says so little, it leaves so much room for speculation. This one is not different.

Westphal also has the habit of airing dirtly laundry out in public (usually when singling out one player). I have never been a fan of this as it rarely has a positive result IMO. This was the only knock I ever had against George Karl as a head coach.

The cynical side of me thinks that this is part of the reason for this whole thing. Cousins is an easy mark because of his history, and has be noticeably upset about how the offense has been going so far. So if you are Westphal and feeling the heat, you turn the spotlight on your troubled center and hope things turn around before the FO can fire you. I am by no means saying that DC is completely innocent here, but do question whether or not he deserved what happened to him. I'll be honest, when I heard the statement from Westphal, my first reaction was to call my Dad and leave a message on his recorder saying that the Kings needed to fire Westphal right now.
What does this have to do with what you want to say?

Are you saying your Dad is one of the Maloofs, or someone high up there in the Kings office that he can do something about this circus going on? I am just curious.

eh from what I heard from Amick and Adrian Wojnrowski(might've spelled that wrong) a lot of people have a problem with Cousins in the Kings lockerroom and FO but a lot of them have been scared to say anything because he's a bully. I used to be a big fan of Cousins but right now I am very dissapointed in him and I would not be sad to see him go. I don't care whether we keep Westphal or not, but if Cousins was repeatedly being a big jerk and being confrontational and undermining things I think Westphal had a right to do what he did. If DMC can get on board and become a better person from this whole thing, maybe the situation is salvageable. But I don't know, and I wouldn't be sad to see him go if we got a decent vet big who could help the team win now.

I take it Cuz is through with apologizing every time he is held responsible for being half the problem (His perception and also it may be true.)
this is a great point. the incident was a two person problem, but only one has been thrown under the bus publicly. that would test the patience of most mature people, let alone cousins. why throw fuel on the fire? there's just no actual benefit to the methods used, no matter the intent.

the only way to attempt to salvage the situation would be for westphal to ALSO accept some of the blame in a public statement. but that's probably a pipe dream.

I was simply saying that my gut reaction was that Westphal needed to go. I called my Dad because he is person I talk Kings basketball with the most. Unforetuneately, my wife isn't a sports fan and my daughter only likes the Kings because she thinks that Tyreke is "hot". So if I want to talk sports with anyone, I pretty much have to call my Dad. Sorry if I confused you.

Lucky you. At least you have your Dad to talk about the Kings. Me, nobody except on this board.

Out of interest, and assuming we don't think the yahoo article is basically made up, who do we think is the "player source" that would leak info about cousins constant "bad behaviour."

You're always going to get factions in situations like this but i don't see any characters who would drop him like that.

Donte maybe? He did swing at him. Could be a rookie...

I think it's Donté. An article(I believe it was an ESPN.com) said that the anonymous player himself was very hard to handle and it took him marriage and kids(or kid) to make him mature

Definitely Donte then. That's who I'd suspected. Not a very smart move saying that stuff, he had to have known DeMarcus would see it and wouldn't be happy. Would have been better to just keep his trap shut - what good could it possibly do?

Donte keeping his trap shut!? Donte the mature one?! A guy who constantly calls attention to himself with endless silly clowning on the bench and when he enters the game always on cue performs a series of show-off, lookie at me, lookie how great I am, childish gestures. No one would give a hoot (or very few) if Greene disappeared from the Kings, unlike Cousins who is such a valuable piece and potential big-time star for this team.

I don't disagree.

Haha I like how quickly it was assumed that Donte is the culprit.

I'm not saying it's definitely him, but he's certainly the most likely. Especially if that ESPN excerpt is true. Regardless of who said it, it was a pretty idiotic statement to make. Not one ounce of good was going to come out of it.

Exactly.

Ok guys, it's not Donte. The player in question was at the

Blazers Clippers game.

http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/page/dime-120101/daily-dime
It doesn't say the player was at the game, just that he talked to him Sunday night. How would any of our players have been at the game? The only other player on the team that would fit the bill possibly is Salmons, I can't think of anyone else. Maybe Outlaw, but I really doubt it was him. Ditto for Hayes.

These are very good points right here, but I think that Westphal had some basic intentions in doing what he did. He's trying to tell Cousins to basically grow up and quite being a douche. It's just too bad it's coming from a person who is on the verge of losing his entire team after having nearly done the same the year before.

I don't know if this was handled properly at all, and probably not, but I think there was a point here and it just wasn't to throw dirt on Cousins and the franchise.
Bravo!

I like Boogie and know there's an excellent ballplayer in there somewhere. But there's also a petulant child...and this isn't his first problem. He needs to grow up, something that's been said of him for quite a while, even going back to pre-draft assessments.

I'm a little disappointed that Kings fans are so hungry for a decent player that they'll seemingly ignore all the character flaws inherent in said player.

gunks - Yes, I agree some of the stuff has been childish but you can't leave Cousins out of the list.

The name of the source is nowhere near as important as what was said IMHO. As I mentioned above, this isn't Cousins' first dance as far as bad behavior is concerned. Is it really that much of a stretch to believe it has continued? Really?

Watching the game Sunday I didn't see any signs of discontent between the players on the bench, something that's pretty hard to hide if there's all kinds of stuff going on behind the scenes.
