Who's to say, maybe the plan is as simple as we're starting Holiday in hopes we can raise his value and trade him.
DDV's camp should do their job instead of scape goating. A couple games at the end of the season ain't gonna change his value.
For all they know maybe it saves him from a setback injury that could really kill things.

In the same segment Nunes rattled off comparable players and the contracts they ended up signing. They were all in the 6 (Justin Holiday) to 12 mil a year range with most at about 8-9 a year. The one that stood out to me was Caruso who got about 9 mil

Caruso is a great salary comp. Super valuable role player on a title team, but with limitations as a scorer.

Personally, I think this is posturing by the agent. I don't think the Kings didn't start him to keep his contract lower, I think they did it to keep his cap hold lower so they will have more money to go after someone in free agency. If they don't low ball him, there likely won't be a problem.

Caruso also knows his role though. Is DDV willing to come off the bench if needed?
I mean, I guess we'll find out, but he showed with the Bucks he's more than willing to be the "ultimate" role player glue guy and was very effective in that role. Not a ton of shots with Giannis/Middleton/Jrue/Portis/BroLo. Has shown a lot of those same qualities here too (although getting out of hand at times, but that's part of his player DNA).

I don’t really understand the gripe. If it’s even legitimate, I think it’s just agent posturing to tell other teams that if Donte looked underwhelming it’s because of Gentry and also make the Kings try to sweeten the pot a little bit. That just very preliminary speculation though since this isn’t public and just Ham talking,
Yeah, he didn’t start but his minutes were comparable to his best season in Milwaukee. He has frequently played in crunch time. I don’t think Donte realistically thought he’d go from a struggling 20 minutes a game player to a 35 minute player. Kings played him 25-30 minutes and increased his role from what it was in Milwaukee and brought his overall numbers back to his career best, though the percentages and efficiency behind them are lower. Maybe he thought he could’ve been having 40 minute stat pad-a-thons like some of the other players but those type of runs this late in a lost season don’t really move the needle in regards to free agency.
I think if there is any truth to it, then it’s an opinion about his usage that Ham heard from agents and not necessarily something that DDV is taking personally or stirring up drama over.

Now that Ham’s no longer employed by NBC, he’s free to do what he does best: stir the poop to boost engagement numbers for his blog.
DDV's value got tanked due to his injury and massive drop off in efficiency. If he wants a bigger contract, he should sign a short "prove it" deal.

As a pure talent, I think it's clear now. As a player making 4 mil or whatever next season I think it's the choice is also clear. Hence >. And no, Donte had one decent year on a contender as an older, young player fitting a role. I think he's a decent fit for some team, not a non winner looking retool in the midst of a draft full of better guards and max space the year after next.

It's possible the Kings douched him and he's a restricted FA which is always a dirty situation. In the end, the Kings traded a restricted big for a G, nothing more. I mean, as soon as Monte didn't go all in by trading the pick at the deadline it was clear this wasn't an "all in" scenario. It might work out better now as a result since it's a decent guard draft for a team needing an upgrade, but it never put the final stamp of "we're going for it". This is the kind of thing that happens as a result.

Well I do think Donte should be starting over Justin Holiday. Especially since Domas is out with injury. Holiday and Domas have chemistry they developed in Indy. To me Donte should be starting with Off Night.
I don't think there would be any ball handlers off the bench if DDV and Mitchell started together. That's the only legitimate excuse I can think of at the moment.

Donte is a really good combo G. Davion is trying to become one. I can see why Gentry and Monte did what they did. If they did it simply to diminish Dontes monetary value, well, it's crappy, and stupid, but I think it was more a commitment to Davion than anything. If Monte works it right, they have 2 more good seasons out of Davion as a solid backup PG/SG before this becomes an issue. If the Kings totally suck next year, then you rebuild and you say later to Fox and Sabonis. The roads are there, clearly marked. Go for it and if it fails, give yourself rope to rebuild. Rope to rebiuld does not mean ovepaying for more combo G's which got you into trouble enough already.
We can't even remotely think about starting Fox/Davion/DDV. I can see the argument for a relatively tight guard rotation, with those three getting ~30 minutes a night each and TD filling in, along with a bit of 3-guard along the way for a few minutes here and there, but we need to actually sign and play some actual wings.
QO is a one year deal. Best case is a 3 year deal with an option for 4 at a reasonable price?

I don't get all the hype for this guy he's like a trash version of the trash version of Bogi, if he's here or not makes no really difference in the overall picture the only way it would is if the Kings overpay him which would not surprise me.

Since he is the one who started the rumor, I wonder if he or anyone straight up asked DDV if he wants to come back to the kings instead of about free agency in general. You got the guy right there to confirm or deny.
