Detroit released PG, William "Smush" Parker today

I saw him a couple years ago at the Rocky Mountain review. He's got hops and is pretty quick, but other than he didn' seem to have much game. As much as he has bounced around the league I can't imagine he can be that good.

well Jimmy Jackson bounced around the NBA a lot and he was good? You never know. I just figured since he was a young PG, he may be worth looking at. I like Martin and Evans swinging from the SG/SF and let Bibby and Parker handle the PG. Or Strickland or someone else. I would rather have a younger guy then Strikland because of the younger legs with hops.

Detroit's bench is absolutely horrendous -- probably shallower than ours. If he can't even cut it there not sure what he can offer us

Sometimes teams release players because they're just not that good. I think this guy falls into that category...

Petrie, I'm sure, has a couple of people in mind. And it could very well be someone that isn't even playing right now - it's happened before.

:D

Parker is good, I just read he was on the IR because of back spasms, that's why he wasn't getting minutes. So if he still has back issues as they say in NY "Forget about it" If his back is better, then I would still give him a look.

Kings do not import injured players.

Kings produce them

LOL grain of truth in what Piski said. No need to bring in an underperformaing oft injured pg who has never seen court time in the play offs. There are better options.

I think he can help, I don't care what the Piston's assessment of him is. They traded Corliss for a broken down Derrick Coleman, so it's not like they're right on the money 100% of the time.

I think what we saw tonight is that we need another ballhandler, Martin isn't used to NBA-caliber full court defense and Mo Evans is only an average ballhandler. I think Smush would be able to contribute in a pinch. He wouldn't be an everyday player, but he'd be more useful than Erick Daniels. And don't pay it no mind that he's bounced around, so has Damon Jones. Damon took a while to prove himself but now he's starting on the Heat and they're running away from the pack in the East. Smush is a better option than Rusty LaRue or whatever the other free agent pg options are right now.

It's not like Petrie has to make the choice tonight. And it's certainly not like Parker is the only guy around.

Yes, we need another ball-handler. That does not mean in any way, shape or form that we have to settle for the first one out of the chute.

Best guess is that Petrie won't sign anyone while we're on the road, especially since we're playing 4 games in 5 nights and have virtually no time to work a new guy into the team.

Bottom line is I don't think Parker's phone is gonna be ringing off the hook with offers.

;)

Absolutly no reason for Petrie to feel presure right now. The Bench gaurds are palying great, team is on the, road and more guys will be cut loose over then next 6 days. The only reason to pen anyone at this point is if there were a great deal he does not want to miss out on and as far as I know no such deal exists. Again I would not necessarly rule out a trade or deal for pics to get a better quality PG, but who am I to tell GP what to do.

Yeah as long as the bench guys step up like this we can put Webb in at point! This is a very versatile team so no rush.

I wouldn't be shock one bit of Petrie picks up smush parker he would be excellent in the kings system of Basketball. He's a combo guard he can hit the 3 he can handle the Ball,He's real athletic and he can really get at it defensivley especially in applying pressure against the quicker point guards. He didn't fit in Coach Brown's rigid lack of Freedom system, Coach Brown elected to go with the VETS and he doesn't like shoot first mentality Guards. If the KINGS do elect to sign SMUSH it will be a great pick up.

My only thought on this is I would hate for him to sign someone and them get more minutes from the guys that are helping us now. I think we seen tonight some of the rookie mistakes that will be made by Martin but he has to learn with real experience not garbage time.

Mo is playing great and in fact prolly better then anyone thought. He can be a real force and looks like he may take some mins away from DC if he keeps playing this way.

In case you hadn't noticed, the Kings, too, have a coach who doesn't like to rely on rookies;) I think they will go the vet route, and I prefer it, actually, as I don't want someone who is going to cut into OUR rooks minutes, not unless it was someone better even than they are. I don't see anyone in that category hanging out un-signed. Heard the Kings were talking with Darrick Martin, BTW.

That suprises me. Didn't he play his way out of Adleman's rotation years back, with his habit of coming in and launching many-a-threes?

And I would like to see Smush get at least a look.Offer him a couple of ten-days and see how he fares. I think he would be a nice fit, good passer, can score a bit. If given time I think he can be a good contributor, in his only start with the Pistons he had 14 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds.

yes he did. I had seen his name out there and wondered if he was a possibiltiy given that he knows the system and the town, but had the same reservations you did. It would be kind of like bringing back Keon or Massenburg if we lost Webb for the season. Would we really go back there?

nonetheless, his bad history may actually be part of the reason we are interested now. With a short bench, and trying to replace an explosive scorere like Bobby, maybe Darrick's huck and duck style is a better fit now than when we had lots nad lots of scorers and just needed him to run the team and stay out of the way on offense.

The thing is, this would only happen if he (or any other unproven commodity) came in and EARNED mins over those guys. It wouldn't at all be the same as bringing in a declining, but safe, vet.

Smush parker isn't a rookie but he isn't what you call a veteran type of player that larry brown trust in his system of Basketball. Now if he were to be picked up by the kings I am sure he would fit in the kings system Better than he would larry brown's system and given the oppurtunity I am sure he would get playing time. He's a better ball handler than kevin martin and better shooter He's athletic and he can play DEFENSE. With the KINGS he would serve Better in the free flowing equality offensive system they have in place.Maybe he would take playing time but what the KINGS need at the #1 is another guy that can push the ball up the floor.
