Det/Mia game 6

Well, Miami has very quickly become my most hated team. Even worse than the Lakers - well, with Shaq and Payton there they do kind of seem like the Lakers, together with all the washed up stars like Walker, Morning and Williams, it would really sicken me to see any of those guys (sans Wade) win a championship.

Wait, wait, wait... what does how long they've gone without a title have to do with anything? By *that* logic, you'd have to root for the Mavericks over the Heat, since their team is eight years older than the Heat, and they haven't won a title, either.

AFAIC, the *only* good thing about this year's Finals is that *one* team is, necessarily, going to win their first Championship in franchise history... I'm just not at all thrilled with the candidates.

Well when there's not really any teams to root for you look on that logic. I'm not as happy with the teams that are here, but... there's nothing I like about Dallas [of course], I just find that team completely dirty and disgusting. I don't like the Heat that much either, but maybe it's time for the East to win a title. Especially for someone who hasn't won a title in a while.

To the point of taking the less bitter poison. Of the three, I would prefer the Suns, then the Heat and never the Cuban's.
Agreed! The choices are not great:( I feel sick.
Congrats to Pistons for a great season but they just couldn't do it when it counted.

*You're* the one who brought it up.

Dirty? You must be having flashbacks to when Najera and Fortson were on the team; the Mavericks aren't dirty. A little whiny, maybe, but not dirty. And certainly not any whinier than the other two teams still playing.

The east won a title two years ago.

And why do you keep saying "in a while?" It's been rather more than "a while." None of the three teams still playing have won a title... ever, and Phoenix is the only one that's even *been* to the Finals.

^ The reason I keep saying that is you see alot of the western teams winning titles (most likely) and its time to see a little bit of the eastern conference.

Look at it this way. If the Heat win the championship, that's an extra thumb in the Lakers eye, especially in Kobe's eye. He'll never be able to live it down. By that logic, we all should be rooting for the Heat :)

Not the part about an Eastern team winning, the part about someone winning that hadn't won in a while: it seems kind of pointless to me for you to keep saying that it'd be nice if someone won a title that hadn't won "in a while," when the fact is that only two teams even made it out of the first round that had *ever* won.

Why don't you just say, "It'll be nice to see somebody besides Detroit or San Antonio win a title," since that seems to be what you really mean. At least then, I would have understood you the first time.

Maybe he'll proclaim that Miami is the new capital of Florida.

I'd like to see either of these three teams left win. Each team has someone/something I enjoy watching.

Part of me thinks that a lot of people just don't like it because "Sacramento Basketbaaaaal" isn't as catchy. ;)

i'll be rooting for them in the finals

i'd like to see j-will get a ring, even if it means seeing goofballs like walker and payton getting rings.

i'd just love to see kobe's reaction to shaq winning a ring without him :D that would be AWESOME

I wasn't asking you to justify your congratulations; I was just asking you to clarify why making it to the Finals isn't special for Shaquille O'Neal, who's now been there six times, but it is for Pat Riley, who's now been there eight times?

Been a long time for Riley, filled with a lot of bitter disappointments. Nice to see the old lion rise up to strike one more time, and kind of the final cherry on top of his all time great status. Not sure any other coach has ever made the Finals with three different franchises.

And the key part here is the way he has managed to yoke in a team full of complete egomaniacs. There is no more difficult group of personalities in the league, multiple aging prima donnas, and yet he transformed them into a team of hustling scrappers who flat out outworked and out-cohesived a team formerly famous for those very traits. Can very much respect how they pulled it off. Chance for a lot of demons to be exorcised for that group of players.

See, I don't view that as anything special on Riley's part. The way I look at it, Riley had no choice but to get to the Finals: after firing a coach that had gotten this team to the ECF the season before, and had a winning record at the time he was canned, Riley pretty much *had* to get to the Finals in order to justify firing Van Gundy, or else he was going to look like an *******.

I'm not necessarily saying that it isn't "special' for Riley to get there, so much as I'm saying that I don't see it as being any more special than O'Neal getting there. I mean, with all the critics saying that he was too fat and out of shape, the critics saying that his ego is too big to help a team win anymore, those who like to point out the fact that he never won a ring without Kobe Bryant... in light of that, I'd say that it's at least as special for O'Neal as it is for Riley.

Comparing the Mavs to the Spurs, on one hand you had a bench full of King killers and on the other Cuban. The Kings Killers IMHO were more tolerable of the two. I'm still hoping for a Suns upset.

lol ohh alright. I guess I've been off-topic the whole time... I see what you mean, Slim.

Yeah, I guess I never thought about re-arranging the words so they would make sense. :o

Detroit is just awful compared to two seasons ago. The moment you saw Cleveland push them to 7 games it was clear they was not the same team. Miami looked very good but I think a lot of it was because Detroit was just that bad. Pheonix would have beaten Detroit in a 7 game series in my opinion.

Miami's gotta be the fav against either Phoenix or Dallas (probably will be Dallas). I don't like either team really, but I'd probably find myself rooting for the Mavs in the end.

Either way though ... if the Heat win, Laker fans will be mad, and you just can't go wrong with that. :)

Based on season results I would think the Mavs would be the favorites now actually, but the way Riley has the Heat playing wouldn't surprise me int he least. He's just got to hold them together for 4 for games.
