So the Pistons will face the Celtics for the Eastern Conference title. That's the way it should be... The poll will close at tipoff of the first game, so if you have a hunch, vote soon.

As we all know, the Celts have not won on the road the entire playoffs. That will not get it done. The Pistons WILL win at least one at the Garden, and I do not think the Celts will have the answer. Great season for the Celts though, from what 25 or 26 games last season to this? Hats off. Look for them in the Finals next season.

Somehow, I thought Boston would breeze past Atlanta and maybe even Cleveland. After those two 7 game series I'm less confident that they'll get past Detroit which is likely to go 6 or 7. Still, I think Ray Allen is due to get going offensively being such a dynamic part of their big three. I guess I'll go ahead and pick Boston in 7. If that happens they may be worn down in facing whoever comes out of the west - surprisingly that team may be better rested than the Celts overall.

I just don't see the Celts really imposing their will anywhere against lesser teams. I think the Pistons will take them.

Detroit in six. If Ray Allen continues his disappearing act, they're not going to have the offensive potency to win against the Pistons' defense.

This is a toss but the Pistons are very capable of taking the Celtics down especially after how the Celtics were taken to Game 7 by both the Hawks and the Cavs. As much as I'd like to see a Lakers (a huge IF) vs. Celtics finals, the Pistons could very well take this series in 6.

I think this year is their best opportunity to win it. Next year, they will be another year older. They are not a young team anymore.

I think the celts were playing down to their opponent's level the last two series. With the pistons, imo, they will be showing the same form that they had during the regular season. So it will be Celts in 7, for me.

Apparently people weren't watching when the Sixers CRUSHED the Pistons in games one and three of that series. Or how the Magic put up one heck of a fight with their assembled group of youngsters and playoff newbies. If if wasn't for a big shot from Tayshaun in game 4 that series would of gone the distance. The Pistons aren't flawless. Chauncey is banged up. Methinks Boston will remember how to win on the road (best road records in the regular season) in the next series and take it in 6 games. Did you watch the final 4-5 minutes of game 7 against Cleveland? Boston looked cool, calm, and collected even as Lebron threatened them with several big shots and plays. They played fantastic defense. Ray Allen didn't even show up that series.

I expect Detroit/Boston to be a dogfight, but Boston is the better team and they will win their first playoff road game in this series.

lol...seriously this sounds really pathetic. They're suppose to be the "Big 3" and yet they have yet to win one road game in the Playoff.

Nor has most road teams. It's the fans dude, the fans. They are screaming their lungs out, and it's working.

The significance of home court + variance in officiating are often enough to decide the outcome of the game. In these playoffs, seems like the significance of home court just outweighs all.

But umm, being from boston and all, let's just say celtics in 7

I went Boston in 7, but Detroit in 6 is also a reasonable call, and I wopuld say Boston in 5 would be the next. Reason/theory being that after seeing how they have played I just have no confidence in Boston's ability to win a monster road game in a Game 6 on Detroit's floor. Now you never know with Detroit's twicthiness, but jsut have no confidence in that. So if Boston reaches Game 6 in Detroit down 3-2, I think that is over. If they reach Game 6 up 3-2, I think Detroit wins, and they play a Game 7. And Game 7s always heavily favor the home team, especially one that is yet to lose a road game.

So anyway, if all that is true, then the early games in the series will be determinative I don't see Boston locisng a Game 5 clincher at home, or a Gmae 7 clincher at home. I do not see the Pistons losing Game 6 at all, whetehr it be clincher or survival. So if Boston survives the first two games, goes up 2-0 on its home floor, I am thinking they win the series. Sounds absurd, but that's the thought. If they can break through on a lazy night for Detroit in Game 3 or 4, they may even win in 5. Otherwise, in 7. On the other hand if Detroit wins one of the first two, Boston likely gets KOd in 6, unless they can catch Detroit again for a bad game in #3 or #4 and therefore put it back on schedule for a 7 game series.

And of course now it will go exactly the opposite of all that, but neither team has been impressive this postseason, and Boston's extreme home/road dichotomy is just amazing. Works if you have homecourt all the way through the playoffs though.

Everybody is talking about Boston being overrated, but the Pistons are lazy and have the tendency to take quarters, even halves, off. Points will be hard to come by this series, so if the Pistons pull that crap like they have in the last two series, then they will lose in 6.

I don't think its Boston being overrated as much as Doc Rivers fiddling around too much, but maybe thats just me.

I hope Pistons will win in 6,just because I don't see the way Boston could confront Lakers/Hornets/Spurs in the finals. If West didn't miss that open 3 pointer, they may not be in the finals at all.

Pretty much how I see it too.

went with detroit in 6. in the first two rounds, boston's main culprit reared his head: bad rotations by doc rivers. and it's a toss up between who is going to melt down faster, doc or flip, but i guess i'll go with doc on that one.

I don't think anyone is saying that the Pistons are flawless, but it's obvious that the Celtics aren't either. So what you have here is an ECF against the two best teams in the conference, both of which have flaws that have been exposed in these playoffs.

So I look at it and ask "Whose flaws have the biggest potential to cost them the series?"

The Pistons are the only team left in the playoffs, other than the Lakers, that have shown the ability to win on the road. The Celtics looked anything but cool, calm and collected down the stretch, until they started going to the free throw line. Ray Allen had four points in this game, and was stuck to the bench for most of the fourth quarter. P-Double had a couple of crucial turnovers in the fourth. I'll admit that they played considerably better than they did in Game 6, but that's their problem so far.

I'm not convinced that Boston is the better team, considering the warts that they've shown so far in the playoffs. And I don't think that not having home court advantage is that big a deal for the Pistons; they certainly won't take the Celtics lightly the way they did the Sixers.

I'm picking the Pistons in six, but not because I think that the Celtics aren't good enough to win. I just think the Pistons are tougher and won't let the C's go 4-0 at home.

I went Detroit in 6 as well. Boston didn't show me they were a dominant #1 seed vs. the Cavs. Not at all. If Sheed can neutralize KG somewhat and Maxiell and McDyess can cover Pierce, then Billups will eat their guards for lunch.

If the Pistons can get one of the first two in Bean Town, then 6 or sooner is a possibility.

Works if you have homecourt all the way through the playoffs though.

Yeah, until you lose. Then Doc Rivers and Avery Johnson can start an elite job hunters website together for coaches who #1 seeded teams lose playoff series that they shouldn't. Laker fans would throw Del Harris in that mix with them.

Only a few more hours until tip-off. A reminder - the poll will be closed once game 1 starts but the thread will, of course, remain open for what I suspect may be some very spirited discussion.

GO CELTICS!!!

:)

Interesting game ... and I'm more convinced than ever that it will take the Celtics 7 games to get past the Pistons. Ray Allen sure doesn't look like Ray Allen...

Nah... this just means it will be a good series. Boston will win one in Detroit and the last three (or two) will be worth watching.

83-67 Boston with 7:30 left.

Some dumb mistakes at times by the Celtics have allowed the Pistons to really get back into the game, considering there was a 20+ point gap at one point.

Deeee-TROIT BASKETBALL!

Haha...I'm actually following this one more then the Spurs/Lakers series. I jumped on the Pistons bandwagon after they stomped the Lakers in the finals, since then they've been my favorite team in the east.

That last game was ugly...Officials were out of control. I think this series goes 7. Even though I hope it doesnt because I want whoever wins it to be fresh against the Lakers.
