Great picks so far. All classic albums and sure hall of famers. I have to give an edge to Michael Jackson's "Triller" though. Like other picks so far it has lasting value reflected in sales numbers over the years (like overall numbers for Back in Black or length of time on Billboard charts in case of Dark Side...), as each generation re-discovers it (or new formats like CD and mp3 reinvigorate sales). All albums picked so far also have spawned off countless imitators and were heavily "stolen" from. But Thriller on its own has had so many inventions and "firsts" to its credits that I have to give it an edge. Even when Jackson "borrowed", like multi-tracking vocals which The Beatles did for the first time almost 20 years earlier, he did it so well and to such an extent that it became a _standard_. He did it years before Protools and digital editing software.
With its great and well used (i.e. never over-used) hooks, perfect beats, unparalleled production values up to that time (and for years afterwards) it's a clear "Michael Jordan" of the 1st round so far, but the risk for Slim is that many KF.com members may be put off by "Ron Artest" dimension of Jackson (crazy!).
BTW, I have a copy of each album listed so far and consider all to be prized possessions. Yes, I am talking about actual vinyl LP's.

All you need to do is look at the track list for this album to know why I picked it as my #1. Contains arguably the greatest rock song of all time (Stairway to Heaven) plus many other great tracks. Great vocalist in Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, along with Clapton, Hendrix, Vaughn, Van Halen, etc., is among the greatest guitarists of all time. LOVE this album...

Wow -- okay, maybe I do not feel so bad afterall -- or maybe I feel worse. Not sure yet. But 2 of the other 3 albums I was going to consider for my 1st round pick were Appetite for Destruction and Led Zeppelin IV, and here none of them survived the Top 5 picks. So maybe I am not as far off here as I thought. But also maybe now I have to worry about people crowding in on what I had hoped was going to be some underutilized turf. 
Was thinking some things might slip and I could even nab them later.

It's round 1, with 50+ years of music industry's history to pick from. It's gonna be much more interesting (and contentious) in later rounds when everyone starts looking for the "help from the bench" and value picks.

Don't worry -- I am dropping out pretty soon.
Well...effectively. I initially took a look at this thread and I think am pretty much focusing on the me being stuck on an island for the rest of my life angle, rather than the people voting on my collection angle. If this is all I get to listen to for the rest of my life, I am not going to have time for prestige albums selected just because they are famous or everybody else thinks they're cool -- going to have to pack stuff that I will actually listen to, not museum pieces.
There's a lot of importnat albums that just have no appeal. It would be like getting to Take 20 movies with you to an island (not a bad idea for a thread either) and taking Schindler's List. Yeah, great film and all. But would you EVER want to watch it again? Let alone for the rest of your life? I'll take Aliens or Monty Python's Holy Grial thx very much, ands you can sue me for my lack of taste.

Wow! What a great and gutsy pick by GGG! First steal of the draft. I had Revolver (best Beatles album in my mind, but there are two more from them that are hall-of-famers at the very least). It work on two levels:
- as a pick to build a franchise around (album on its own is that *great*), and
- it's like saying "If I am gonna rough it out on a desert island for a long time, taking Revolver is like bringing most of your record collection with you" - that's how influential that album was, everyone and their wife "borrowed" from it.
There is only one record I would consider picking ahead of Revolver here, but it is really a tie, so I would probably end up with Revolver too.

You should trust your taste more! Back in Black is considered one of the best hard rock albums of all time if not the best so you will get many more votes against "critically acclaimed" albums. No list is complete without it.

I'm not going to pick any albums that I've never heard, so critically acclaimed greats like Pet Sounds and Dark Side of the Moon are out for me. I'm going to stick with albums that I love, and that mean something to me and/or remind me of an important time in my life and what those tracks meant to me at that time.
My collection won't win any acclaim for its greatness, but it for sure will be a grouping of albums that would make my stay on the island very enjoyable.

Of the albums listed, I only have AC/DC's and only really like the couple of popular songs off it. Sure, some individual songs from the albums listed are great, but none of those chosen were on my list so far.....

Ok, really Brick. You are kind going off on a tangent. Think about it. Anybody that is smart is going to put their picks together and then adjust them according to which ones will go first. The first and probably second rounds will be major players in the music scene. No Brainer. As Bozzwell said, it will get more indivualistic in later rounds. I know that I have some on my list that I am pretty confident will not be taken. In fact, none of the above were even on my list. My #2 & 3 are still on the table.

Sure, Revolver was their most popular album. The White Album was my favorite, but with all due respect, they are not even on my list.
I really think that I will pick my choices from here on out with no interuptions from anyone. My second and third are questionable, but from there I can pretty much guarantee it.
