Heh... You know you've all done the Electric Slide to Candy at least once... I can't even dance, and I've done it.

I'll warn people right now. I have mod powers. The first bozo who thinks he/she is gonna snag "Achy Breaky Heart" better think twice.

Why not? I'll play. Most, if not all, of my selections will be 90's and 2000's, so I likely won't win any awards, but it should be fun.

Aaaaand... here is your official draft order:

  1. Kingzrool
  2. Spike
  3. Bricklayer
  4. Mr. S£im Citrus
  5. D-Mass
  6. GoGoGadget
  7. Jerryaki
  8. Warhawk
  9. Prophetess
  10. C-Diddy
  11. pdxKingsFan
  12. tradepeja
  13. VF21
  14. dime dropper
  15. atxrocker
  16. Monty'sBiggestFan

The order reverses for the second round, and so on, and so forth. Kingzrool is officially on the clock...

NOW!

So I have potentially two weeks to wait before my first selection? Hrm... Looks like I can do more research.

;)

Potentially? Yeah. This is something that could conceivably occupy the entire DOS... Which was at least kind of the idea.

And for the first pick of the first round, Kingzrool picks....

Drum roll please....

Dark Side of the Moon By Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd is IMO the greatest band of all time. Picking the album was harder then picking the band. Time and Money are some of the greatest songs ever written. I have the original stickers that came out of the first release on my turntable, yeah that is right, turntable. A super old Techniques that my dad had at the time DS of the M came out, it is sweet.

I sent Spike a pm.

Listen, if you were hoping for Who Let the Dogs Out to still be on the table, you'd might as well skip to your Plan B...

Hmmm... I should really go along with this.

Brick's competitive enough that, as long as I was super convincing that I had my fingers crossed for the Baja Boys, I could probably get him to burn that #3 pick in an attempt to spite me.

Man, I am so completely unworthy of the #3 pick in a thing like this. That should be something profound and universally popular, and while I know what most of those albums are (normally older and acquiring "classic" status along the way, would I actually spend the rest of my life on a desert island listening to such rubbish every day? Not really.

the whos?

Even if you did convince me they were your pick, and even if I were inclined to be competitive in a field where I freely admit I have no stake, as I cannot even name a single song from the group (duo?), let alone an album, you are safe as can be.

Ah, the pressure of the second pick. Will I be Sam Bowie?

I'm going for a solid pick, the face of the franchise for years to come:

Appetite for Destruction, Guns N' Roses.

A little high? Maybe. I don't know the makeup of the other GMs in this draft, and as such I didn't want them gone by my second pick. There are others I considered, but I'll keep my mouth quiet. There's too much greatness on this album to be left alone.

Oh wow, that's pretty amazing -- believe it or not I had decided to possibly do the same thing with the #3 pick. I do think its a reach, but I'm not sure I am going to bother too much with the percentages here with a bunch of random people with different musical tastes, and possibly acumens. Until I've seen a few rounds, I will have no idea what is going to happen. The Beatles could go next, or Britney Spears. No clue.

So with that particular temptation to reach removed, I think I am supposed to go off and pick something really profound, but instead I think I'll reach a bit too. Well maybe:

AC/DC -- Back in Black (1980) -- And I said "maybe" it was reaching because Back in Black is only the 2nd highest selling album of all time -- as in ever (over 40 million sold). Grinding and explosive, if I'm stuck on a damn island by myself forever this one should satisfy my rock tooth for a good long time, and let me use the rest of my picks on my preferred genre of Latvian polka. Back in Black, Hells Bells, and an all time favorite in You Shook Me All Night Long. I did a music report on this album and ACDC back in freshman year of high school...and neglected to mention that it was the first album under new lead singer Brian Johnson, and in fact meant as a tribute to deceased lead singer Bon Scott. Oops. Color me a frosh.

Do I need to bother to PM you Slim?

As powerful as the temptation to pick Spice may be, I think I'll go with this instead:

Michael Jackson - Thriller

You say Back in Black is the #2 selling album of all time? Well, guess which album is number one? One of the best pop albums ever, by the King of Pop himself. Kids my son's age have only seen the weird Mike, but I remember when he was the baddest man in music, and classics like this are the reason why.

Oh yeah, just in case it wasn't clear in the OP: this is a music-only draft. Comedy albums, spoken word albums, and the like will not be accepted.

Dang, I just saw this thread. Since it's too late to join, are the outsiders allowed to provide play-by-play comments/analysis a la NBA draft?
