This article spurned a discussion a different sports forum. A poster posted this trade idea, which did not appal me and even got my head thinking. We have traded for a high-priced, once high-valued, but now has no value NBa player before that worked out for us...

The Kings continue to add big talent for big money. Williams' contract is ghastly but they're not giving up anything of on-court value here, and Deron's PG skills (while declining) and size (while increasing, heh) should help guys like Boogie and Rudy in ways that IT couldn't.

I imagine Jason Thompson could be included/substituted to help save money down the line without too much objection from Brooklyn, but I figured SAC might actually want to keep him if Landry is going out. That's negotiable.

The Nets can't acquire Terry again (at least not until July) so he gets sent to Philly instead. Sixers shave a few hundred thousand off J-Rich's deal and possibly more if Terry agrees to a buyout. Costs Philly zero.

Because of the amnesty the Nets can't re-acquire Outlaw EITHER, so he gets sent to Toronto who get to chop a few mil off Fields' contract for free.


I think the topic is worth discussion, even if the source of seems suspect, as I have never heard of it before prior to this discussion. IT's well known, imo, that Deron Williams in Brooklyn has not panned out to all the pre-hype.

The two scenarios are completely different.

Gay was 27, still in/entering his athletic prime, but whose value seemed to have declined because of on court usage, leaving the possibility that a change of scenery could improve things. If not, the financial risk was minimal, as his contract would expire in 2015, or earlier if he opted out.

Williams, meanwhile, is two years older, and has been hampered by injuries. A change of scenery would not do anything to mitigate the physical issues. The financial risk, meanwhile, is substantial, as he's owed on average over $20 million each for three more seasons.

while I obviously have problems with getting Deron itself (there is no way to afford him, Cuz, and Gay, and having 14pts 6ast cost you 20mil a year is crushing), I do wonder what the Nets are supposed to be getting out of this? Yes Deron is a bad contract, but this is the Webber trade all over again. Dump three smaller bad contracts on them for one larger bad contract belonging to an aging player who still has some uses. Maybe if you could get ending contracts to them they might be tempted, but they are in win now mode so I don't know where they get their PG after that.

Well, after hearing Nets fans' input on DWill, I may have had a quick case of star-struck-itis. They seem to think we would go further with IT as our starting PG. A bit of that is the bitterness talking, I'm sure. Doesn't look like the article's rumor held any merit anyways.

Thing is it was an atrocious showing throughs the last 2-3 years

Well yeah, I'm not taking him on that contract in the real world, just playing fantasy ball really, if they had similar contracts I'll take D-Will's 14 and 6 on 11 shots on this team.

So in this scenario, the Kings would turn into the Brooklyn Nets of the West. A team overloaded with overpaid superstars.
But then again Boogie >> Lopez, Rudy > JJ and DWill = DWill.

So I'll say, go for it if the Nets are willing to get Landry, Outlaw, and JT.
As long as they don't get our draft this year, I'm on board with this because:

1.) Although Deron's bloated contract would run for 3 more seasons, Rudy's remaining 1 year on his contract could give the flexibility. And there is still Derrick Williams who will add a season more to maturity if ever Rudy leaves.
2.) Kings don't lose their draft pick which could turn out to be Vonleh, a good PF prospect.
3.) I still got my hope on Ben to a legit SG.
4.) This means DWill plays on the spot that we sorely need a good veteran and in DWill's case a legit All-Star, even if he clearly declined in Brooklyn.

Moving forward, we will have.

C - DMC/Evans/Vet min player
PF - Vonleh/Acy
SF - Gay/Derrick Williams
SG - Ben/ (maybe a 2nd rd pick from the trade)
PG - Deron/McCallum

Bench is thin but Star power is there. And also a good mix of star player and high energy role players.

nets cap is messed up. joe johnson is going to be paid damn near 25m in his last year of his contract.
