[DEN/LAL] Lakers vs. Nuggets?

I don't understand the hate for Anthony. I think he's a very good player, hell, I think he's one of the five best finishers in the league right now, and we saw last year during the Tournament of the Americas that he's plenty deserving of his star status.

As to the Nuggets, I personally felt as though they were better before Iverson. I'd hate to see Anthony get run out because he and Iverson can't play together; I thought we'd already proven that Iverson can't play with another star.

While I am in total agreement about Iverson's influence/impact on the Nuggets, I think Carmelo is his own worst enemy. He needs to shut up and play...and not worry about anybody else's game.

Soft according to what criteria?

Hehehehe...

;)

I don't think Laker fan has a criterion for measuring such things. I think he's too busy acting as though it's some big deal for the #1 seed to beat the #8 seed... And isn't talking smack the one thing some Laker fans always resort to?

Sorry, Futuristic, but you're gonna have to bring more meat and less tofu to the table if you want to be taken even somewhat seriously around here.

He plays physically...on offense. But perhaps because he plays no defense? Being a career .389 shooter in the playoffs isn't helping matters either.

Think the larger issue with him is that he's soft in the head. Well that and he battles being overrated and not truly a franchise level talent. He doesn't make his guys better out there.

Its easy to forget that they were still a 50 win team, but it was almost in spite of themelves. You watch them play and they are...despicable. Not even getting to the personal issues. Just the mental slop, no defense, careless plays, erratic intensity...its a nightmare. And if Anthony is not the root cause of it all, he certainly isn't leading them to the light either.

Figure Karl gets canned now, and see how Melo does with another coach. He's still only 24. But I'm not sure he isn't just what he is.

I will eventually, and I can bring it. Just that right now, I'm really pressed for time, and one liners are all I can afford. One of these days, I'll engage ya. ;)

The good thing about the series is that Denver got what they deserved. Iverson will never win a championship, as it should be. Carmelo still has time for reform. Now would be the time for him to get counseling about the meaning of team, of defense, and of sharing the ball. Iverson is just an enabler of the bad habits. That Iverson trade was terrible. The Shaq trade was terrible. The Kid trade was terrible. That gives me hope that some fool like those above will want Artest this off-season.

I actually think that the Lakers sweep was impressive.

I think it's impressive for anyone to sweep in a best of seven series, 1-8 matchup or not, especially this year in the West. What was there, a seven win difference between the Lakers and the Nuggets? Meanwhile, the 66-win Celtics are tied two games apiece with the 37-win Hawks. If there should have been any sweeps, it should have been in that series. A sweep is always impressive, and when you consider the fact that the Lakers mopped the floor with the Nuggets, it's even that much more impressive.

Add to that the fact that the closest this Laker group has ever come to even winning a series was going up 3-1 on the Suns a couple years ago, and aside from Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher, none of them have extensive playoff experience. They done good, no matter who they played.

Plus, with the upsets we've seen in the Playoffs recently, most notably with last season's Western conference 1-8 matchup, it says a lot about coming out and taking care of business. The Hornets manhandled the Mavs, but still couldn't do it in four games straight. Same for the defending champion Spurs. Hats off to anyone who sweeps, especially a young, Western conference team, even if it is the f-ing LA Lakers.

But does that make it right for a Laker fan to come here and gloat? Sorry, Supes, but I don't understand why Futuristic feels the need to strut around on a Kings board like a Bantam rooster to celebrate...

The other resident Laker fans manage to maintain a modicum of respect for us and our board. IMHO it just seems as though Futuristic hasn't learned the knack of peaceful coexistence ...

IOW, he really torques me off some times.

:p

My feel as a fan is that I'm not shocked it happened. In that sense, I see where VF is coming from. Unlike a 15 yr old RealGMer, she knows these teams, she just not going to happily predict a buncha success for the GDLs. :o

I had it 4-1 at worst. Fans tend to predict mismatches that sometimes never materialize and then they have to rationalize what went wrong. I've read other boards, not necessarily this one, where people were saying the Lakers' defense sucked too, they were young too, Pau is soft, Kobe/Gasol haven't proven anything, etc. Then after the fact, the same fans were saying the Nuggets got swept because of their immaturity and this/that when those things weren't factored into their original predictions.

Another thing I've read plenty of times was that GS would've given LA a much harder time. They happen to be bigger woodshed material than DEN.

If anything, LA/DEN was interesting to me because DEN got beat 4 different ways. Gasol & Odom in Gm1, Kobe & Kobe in Gm2, Fratello Cavs tempo in Gm3, and Bavetta in Gm4. Sweeps are usually less complex than that.

I've been nothing but nice, and I've made adjustments each time you send me a "love note." Sometimes though, I think you purposely respond to my posts when you're in a bad mood or something. I'm really just a fun loving, innocent poster. :D

To paraphrase Queen Gertrude (Hamlet) "The Laker fan doth protest too much, methinks."

There is no such thing as a "fun-loving, innocent poster" if said poster is, in fact, a Laker fan posting on a Kings board. (And this is in no way a comment on my two favorite Laker fans...)

Sorry, Futuristic, but the VF ain't buying your protestations of innocence.

:)

Hrm... Can I get back to you about that? You are, after all, a fan of the hated Lakers. I think requiring you to prove your innocence is pretty much a given.

But I'll reserve any further harassments ... at least for now.

:p
