That's what I saw. Wright wanted to eat his cake and have it. He held his hands up like "I didn't foul" .... until the shot went in. Then he started protesting that he DID foul.

If he wanted to foul the guy, he should have wrapped him up.

Mavs deserved what they got. I hate them.

YES!!! I totally and completely agree, especially with the last sentence. :p

If you're in that position, you don't ticky-tack foul. You either tackle the guy or "Derek Fisher" him. Hip checks are for sissies ... and Robert Horry.

I did love the comments afterwards. Seeing Cuban shove the cameraman was hilarious, if only because he's liable to be fined AND sued by the cameraman for battery.

I strongly suspect we're going to see clown pieces flying through the skies of Dallas as soon as this series is over. Cuban has to be at the end of his rope...and then some.

I can't believe that with the lengthy history of questionable refereeing that is swept under the rug the NBA decided to issue a mea culpa here. I have no problem with that foul going uncalled, I doubt the rules were originally intended so that teams could effectively kill the final possession unpenalized by timing their final foul right, this rule is practically like letting the defense call a time out on the final possession, and that's basically the argument the Mavs were making - "They knew we had a foul to give, they should have called it". They ought to consider making any foul after the shot clocks get turned off with 24 seconds left a shooting foul.

In any event you never stop playing until the whistle blows, it wasn't the non-whistle that caused the shot to go in but letting Anthony get the shot off undefended certainly didn't hurt its chances.

I completely agree.

And on a bizarre side note, has anyone seen that so-called girlfriend or fiance' of Dirk Nowitzski? I mean here's a multi-multi millionaire, tall, good looking, 29 year old German blond who could have any Dallas Cowboy cheerleader he wanted, or many of the world's most beautiful super models. Instead, he's been attached for several years to this low-life tramp, very below average looking (many would say scag ugly) 37 year old criminal:eek: You'd think the guy might if absolutely necessary have that one on the very down low, out of all public view, but she's reportedly been referred to as "Yoko Ono" by Mavs players.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder......

thank the heavens i dont have DIRKS EYES

I can certainly understand Wright's reaction to the play. As far as I see it, he took a swipe at Anthony's dribble, expecting a foul call. Looking at all the flagrant foul issues that have been going on throughout the playoffs and the many complaints that the refs should handle those in the course of the game and not let the league pick up the pieces afterwards, I can also understand him not tackling Anthony. That he then put up his hands, I see rather as him saying that the foul was not in the act of shooting.

All in all, I'd say that Wright didn't make much of a mistake in that situation. He could have gone after Melo again, after the initial foul was not called, but as he maybe was assuming that he just didn't hear the whistle and didn't want to give the impression that he was fouling in the act of shooting, I can understand his reluctance on that. Would have probably been the same if he had then just played defense and challenged the shot. In the end, it did rob the Mavs of an opportunity to gain some momentum, but what does it matter anyway. It's not as if the Mavs had any real chance in this series and I want the Nuggets as rested as possible, when facing the Lakers (without Yao, the Rockets just have no chance at all).

Agree 100%. Bizarre, though, that out of the thousands of blown calls, and many ones worse than this, this is the one the NBA apologizes for.

I think they take the bullet on this one for the simple reason it is, in the grand scheme of things, the one that makes possibly the least difference to the eventual outcome of the series. Dallas isn't going to pull out 3 of the next 4 games against the Nuggets even if that one game does go their way.

ESPN: Cuban confronts Martin's Mom; Calls thug

The NBA is reviewing a postgame confrontation between Mark Cuban and the mother of Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin during which the Dallas Mavericks owner referred to Martin as a "thug" or a "punk," according to a report in The Denver Post.

Cuban told the Denver newspaper by e-mail that as he walked off the court after the Mavericks' Saturday night loss in Dallas, he saw Martin's mother, Lydia Moore, as a fan was yelling that the Nuggets were "thugs."

"That includes your son," Cuban said to Moore, according to his e-mail to The Post.

I came across this great article on Chauncey Billups and wanted to share it here.

ESPNOTL, Tom Friend: The Disposable Superstar

He has quickly become one of the most valuable players in the NBA and I am rooting for them to win it all if the Rockets/Hawks can't.

Yea I just read that, awesome article. Just goes to show you how important systems are to a player. By the way, had no idea Boston gave up on him half way into his first season... what does that say about their front office and scouting at the time??

***

Dirk does same offensive move on Carmelo (defensive stopper of course) three times on three consecutive possesions, and gets stripped first two times. On the third time, Anthony strips him (clean, but foul is called) and Dirk makes the sourpatch face and you could see the question on his face, "[Broken German] How ze hill did he know vat I vas going tu du...?[/Broken German]

Also question - Dirk does have a pretty jumper (high arch, almost always swish and snaps the net) but watching him pull off the dribble, you almost always wonder if he pulled something or hurt himself the way his legs flail in both directions. Just a note I guess

Err... okay. Melo pushes Wright in the throat and takes him to the ground, and Wright gets charged for the foul. Furthermore, Wright gets called for a T for trying to explain and gesturing how he was fouled. Okay, I see I see.

On the other end, Martin gets his 5th foul for, what the announcers could only ascertain was, "Too much touching Dirk." How the hell do these officials still have their jobs? Either the NBA office has given up and is watching reruns of the office and toking, or they haven't slept in two weeks.

Dirk ties it up at 110!!! Great game if you're watching from neutral point.

Another physical playoff games. These games have been soo physical, with all the flagrant/ T's being called its starting to get old .. These playoffs have shown just how horrible NBA officiating is...

It was actually poor broadcasting by TNT because they never showed it.

Stern probably talked to the broadcasting companies:

"No replays of questionable calls late in playoff games. Especially when it helps extend a series or it's a marquee franchise! Didn't you know I'm all about the bling bling!?!"

It's a hell of a thing when the refs can't just be bad, without it being an OMGCONSPEARACEEEEZORZ!!!!!!1111~~!!!!

ESPN: Cuban apologizes to Martin and his mother

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, locked in a verbal sideshow with Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin ever since Saturday's Game 3 of the playoff series against Dallas, apologized to Martin and his mother in his latest posting on his blog.

The billionaire team owner has been accused of calling Martin a "thug" or a "punk," depending on the account, but as Cuban said on the early Tuesday morning posting, "That has become irrelevant."

"I shouldn't have said anything. Now, the reality is that this has gotten out of hand," Cuban wrote on blogmaverick.com, with the posting titled, "An Apology to Kenyon Martin's Mom."

I didn't think anything Mark Cuban did would ever: a) surprise me; b) give me cause to say "nice move."

This apology, however, has accomplished both. I'm really more than a little surprised he decided to act like the grown up and quit attacking a player on the other team. And I'm even more surprised he realized it had gotten out of hand. (Of course, there is the possibility I suppose that it was his legal staff that made the realization he was opening himself up for libel charges. Saying that stuff in print is a lot harder to explain away than verbal comments made in the heat of the moment...)

I was not addressing your post specifically; just the general conspiracy sentiment.

I've never thought there was a conspiracy in the sense that the league is favoring certain teams or players. But I do think the NBA officiating has been noticeably bad for several years, in the playoffs particularly because every play matters more, and the league office must be trying really hard to pretend it isn't as bad as it is or just doesn't care. Some teams and players are better at exploiting the refs than others and that comes across as if there is a bias. That bad (and ridiculously late) foul call on Kenyon Martin last night might have cost Denver the game. One or two bad calls throughout the course of a series, fine. Nobody is perfect. But when every other game has something going on right at the end which potentially swings the outcome it's hard to ignore.

If you were addressing my post, I was posting with veiled sarcasm. I would have posted in blue but I was told that ppl don't use blue for sarcasm on this MB. I was told ppl would have to figure out sarcasm for themselves. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Do I believe every bad call is part of a conspiracy? Of course not. Do I think the NBA plays favorites? Yes. Case in point - this year's playoff suspensions and/or lack of suspensions.

You can always use the "/sarcasm" tag. Works well. Some folks here have their posts in various colors because they like those colors - trying to infer sarcasm that way wouldn't work.

Again, I wasn't addressing anyone in particular. People on this message board have been crying "FIX!" since 2002. I usually keep my mouth shut about the subject, but every once in a while, my "bite my tongue" tank gets full up, and I have to run my fat yap.

I gotcha.
