DeMarcus Cousins : "Bynum doesn't deserve to touch the trophy!"

As long as he can walk the walk, then he can talk the talk. Doesn't bother me. I seem to remember Shaq calling us the Sacramento Queens. If this gets the rivalry going again, then lets get it on. We'll take our lumps for a while, but we can let the know that the handwriting is on the wall..

Right now, there is no rivalry. They have reached the finals three times in a row, and won twice. We had the worst and the third worst record over the last two seasons.

Given that his statement was before being drafted, he was likely just making an observation. I do feel though that words should follow action and not precede them. He can say what he likes once he has achieved something in the NBA.

Blah blah blah, Cousins knew he wasn't slipping past the Kings, why the feez did he wear so much purple? He feels that if that was him instead of Bynum then he would have made a much bigger impact. Then so be it dude. You have Tyreke who is already a budding superstar to play with, prove it. I'm guessing he is chomping at the bit to do just that, prove that he is the best like he thinks he is. I don't know why so much analysis, Cousins told us what he thinks. He went on 'twitter' record saying what he thinks. Let him prove it. Draft him by the 4th round in your upcoming fantasy drafts and reap the bene's.

As a person who wasn't even in the NBA yet and was making many comments on the series and players throughout, that is not talking smack at all. At that point he was basically just like any other fan expressing his opinion. People really need to start taking everything said on twitter with a grain of salt and make sure not to get their panties in a bunch over such meaningless comments.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I was merely expressing mine. No need for the "panties in a bunch" throwaway comment. I personally think Twitter is way over-rated, over-used, and underestimated as something that can have negative effects. My comments were more directed at those who were giddy with glee over Cousins' comment as though it was a throwing down of the gauntlet by our new rookie against Andrew Bynum. In that regard, I think it would only be appropriate if, in fact, Cousins had some actual NBA experience.

And this is where the generation gap is created. The beauty of Twitter is that people are able to speak their minds as real people -- and sometimes we get an unfiltered glimpse into the real personalities of these people rather than the guarded (some might say fake) ones we see in the media. He shouldn't be getting killed for making casual observations about the league as a fan of the NBA (and at the time it was written, he was still an outsider and strictly a fan of the NBA, not a member of it). And an observation about Bynum being overrated is far from ridiculous and dumb, as was attested to by several people in this very topic. Let him be -- trying to douse a young player's fire based on casual statements is ridiculous in itself.

I have no delusions about Andrew Bynum. In fact, I think he's arguably one of the most overhyped, undertalented players to hit the NBA in quite a while. My point was that making comments on Twitter can subject someone to a lot of unwanted scrunity. If that's a generation gap, so be it. As Mark Twain once said, "It is better to remain silent and appear stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." The trap with Twitter is people make public comments that, once tweeted, are out there for all the world to see.

I am not trying to douse anyone's fire. I subscribe to the "don't talk the talk if you cannot walk the walk" philosophy and would much prefer that Cousins let his game - not his fingers - do his talking. Just my two cents.

Way too soon, Mr. Cousins. I like the attitude in general, but let's just wait until you've played a few games in the NBA. Andrew Bynum is the starting center of the world champs, and you've just been drafted by a 25 win team. If you can play well enough to back up your statements, then more power to you, fuel the fire in our rivalry, but until then, it's best that you let keep your mouth shut and let what you do on the court speak for you.

well to be honest the only guys who can touch that trophy in my opinion is ugh artest and probably at some extent gasol... kobe cant in my opinion cause he choked in the final game...

ok moving on

I like what cousins is saying... and i hope brings the goods to back up what he said and starts beasting it. cause we can all agree bynum is so overrated and im sort of sick of how they say he has the best bigman as his teacher... yet he shows no tremendous improvement only knee injuries.

lets just see how cousins will fare

I have no problem with what he said, I think most people agree with that but we don't have the game to back it up but Cousins does.

Think about all the smack Jennings talked last year, even before his first game. He trashed Lamar Odom a few times on Twitter.

And you consider this a good thing?

Flip this around, have the Lakers rookie whatshisname -- the one legged dude who was supposed to be good once -- twitter how Reke didn't deserve to touch that ROY trophy and see just how cool everybody around here would find it.

I do recognize now that he did it long before being drafted, and that does make it better. Precisely because it looks less like smack talk form a kid who has accomplished exactly jack and squat and more like a fan opining.

I like players who prove their point with their play. Talk is cheap. I understand he made the comment before he was drafted, which takes a little edge off of it.

IMHO, I think the championship trophy is earned by the whole team, not any one individual. Do some members do more? Of course, and that's why there's a finals MVP award.

As for twitter? It's great for stunningly pointless brain diarrhea. Its also a boon to people who say crap they don't have the courage to say face-to-face.

Reminder... he has maturity issues. Anyone who missed that in the draft disclaimer needs to read again. He is not only very young at 19, he is an unpolished kid. Don't expect him to act like a professional yet. That said, he will learn about talking trash at the NBA level. Either back it up or shut up.

if that's true that would be a majooooor downer then

It all depends what the person thinks being "a better athlete" means. Bynum as a rookie had a higher vertical jump than Cousins. But as far as running the court, making swift post moves around the paint, Cousins is much better in my opinion. The way Bynum moves around the court is stiff and not very quick at all. One can blame it on his injuries but thats part of the game. On the other hand, Cousins is known to have good feet that allows him to make "guard like moves" as his coaches have said.

DMC's agility score was crazy for a guy his size. He not only rated better than athletic forwards like Favors and Ed Davis, he scored the same as some top perimeter players like Wesley Johnson and Avery Bradley. And this was at the combine where he showed up over his playing weight.

Yeah, I don't care about the combine measurables when it comes to an NBA center. I care about whether he can finish around the rim, if he can get his shot off, if he has a little range and a little touch, if he can pass out of a double team ... and on defense, I care about whether he can contest shots, if he's got the lateral quickness to rotate on help D, if he's strong enough to battle for position, if he can show on the pick, etc. If Bynum had better measurables before he got drafted, I'm sure those traits have depreciated with three knee injuries.

Yea, it can be pointless brain doo in some cases, especially for young people....

But it's a great way of keeping up on our guys too:

Today we know;

RT @JimmySpencerNBA: Other offseason news- I texted Tyreke Evans (@thetyrekeevans) about his jumpshot. He texted "It gets better everyday - Link

and....

Good workout with Kevin Love this morning in LA - Link

and....

It's cool to see Cuz is sporting his Kings jersey proudly; Link

One way or another, there is going to be drama with this kid. At the least, he'll make the season interesting.

First off, let me say that my first post to this was mean't more for fun than being serious. And, I think everyone is taking this way to seriously. I've followed Cousins for a long time and I've listened to a lot of his interviews at Kentucky. The best I can do to describe him is to say that he reminds me of a cross between Shaq and Barkley. He says things point blank and with a straight face. Sometimes he pulling your leg and sometimes he's not. As a result he gets misinturpreted at times. Now I'm not saying thats our fault for not being able to figure him out. Its just who he is, and I don't think he means to hurt or insult anyone, even if thats the result.

My point is, that I think once the fans get used to him and his mannerisms, less will be read into what he says. I certainly wouldn't be promoting him for diplomatic duty anytime soon, but I do think people will injoy his personality once they get to know him. And as I said in my first post. As long as he can walk the walk, then he can talk the talk. We shall seeeeeeeee!

As often happens, I think I may have misrepresented my feelings about him. I LIKE Boogie...a LOT! I just don't want to see him subjected to a lot of the stuff that happens when his every single syllable is dissected for hidden meaning, etc. I didn't realize at first that his comments were made before he was actually part of the NBA; I just felt that Bricklayer made some good - as usual - points and wanted to second them.

Sometimes I think my fingers work without really communicating with my brain, you know?

Bottom line is I think Kings fans are going to embrace Boogie and I think it will be a symbiotic relationship. I'm truly looking forward to the coming season with a lot more anticipation than I've had for a number of years.

I LOVE THIS TEAM!

:)

His attitude is starting to pee me off. I hate the lakers too, but you can't just say whatever you want knowing it will be online 5 minutes later. This isn't the 5th grade where you can just say whatever.
Cousins needs to keep his mouth shut if he wants to have a career and show some respect.

It's his personal twitter account. He can say almost anything he wants.

But, just like in real life, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I think it isn't too big a deal, but like others here, I'd like to see some dominance on the court before he starts flapping his jaws too much.

Yeah I think fans are just going to have to give him a little slack until he learns about being a pro player. We have to keep reminding ourselves that this kid is only one year out of high school and he had not even started college one year ago today. From what I know of his few months in college, he had some problems and learned from them. So expect the kid to feel his way through this too. Just chuckle and forget it because it's pretty laughable.

I think this is inevitable. The kid is clearly a very special player, with a very exciting personality, and comes into the league with a lot of controversies. Let us all get ready and just enjoy the ride. Every single word and action of this kid will be scrutinize by both fans and foes.

The kid is a rockstar!

I just hope he really develops into someone who can really talk the talk and walk the walk.

Joe Maloof in Sports Illustrated:

"I've got a lot of respect for Mr. [Andrew] Bynum," says Kings co-owner Joe Maloof of the Lakers' 7-foot, 285-pound center. "But I've got a message for him: You're not going to be pushing [Cousins] around. I don't know how anyone [in the draft] passes on this guy."

Joe throwing down the gauntlet.
