yeah i feel the same way, i think it'll be awhile and its unfortunate because we will lose the momentum we gained, not that we cant regain it
 
Don't know about that. If he's capable to produce 2-3 continuous high intensity minutes, I'd suit him up. Even 18-20 minutes of Boogie every game would help this team immensely. Even 10-12 will do at the moment.

The thing is, that's not really true for us. People don't like to hear these things so early in the season, but last year I pronounced our season over at the end of November. And it was. All our easiest games were lined up, and in the Western Conference we absolutely 100% HAD to clean up that month, or there was basically no hope. Even a lower tier playoff team like Dallas or some such might not have been able to recover off our bad start. Not in the West.

Now this season THIS is the month, and I've been holding my tongue a bit about just how big a disaster this Boogie thing is. It was the perfect "injury" at the perfect time of the season to basically end our season/any legitimate hopes we have by Christmas. Already we've dropped 2 of 3 in December, and in order to position ourselves for a final two months of the season spent primarily on the road, we pretty much could lose no more than 4 for the whole month. In the Western Conference that's just the way it works for outsiders trying to break in. One stumble, and you're done. Well our stumble has been induced, and we desperately desperately need to somehow make it end immediately. We also need to build a very big bubble to house DeMarcus in 24/7 during every season. We can have dudes in hazard suits slip him TV dinners nuked to a fine crisp so that nothing can survive, and break him out of the bubble just long enough to suit up game nights. Give him a good rubdown with antibacterial soap at every timeout and immediately kick anybody coughing or sneezing within 30 feet of the bench out of the arena.

In any case, unless he has mono, in which case we are well and truly screwed and might as well just put this site into hibernation until next season, you should be able to be over a viral fever within a week's time, and just have lingering fatigue. if that's the case, we need to get him back out there and just monitor his minutes. It may screw up his MVP campaign and fun numbers, but 20-24min a night of Boogie in short 6 min spurts could make all the difference for us against these weak teams. if we are going to be denied the real thing, we just have to survive and keep ourselves viable as a playoff threat into the second half of the season. Nothing would be more depressing than to get overcautious to the point that by the time we bring back Boogie there is no longer any point and we're just playing out the string trying to reach .500 or something again.

What a potential disaster.

Just to put that in perspective, we continue to struggle without Boogie, we fall to 10-12, in order to hit 50 wins we'd have to go 40-20 the rest of the season, which is a 55 win pace. That's how quick your season can end. Two more weeks of struggling and that would realistically be it. We are not so fortunate as some of our sad friends in the East who are never out ever. In the West the first sign of weakness is normally fatal.

I'm not sure you will need 50 wins this year because Denver, us, Pelicans will all be around 500. (give or take 5 wins either way), Than you also got the Thunder coming back and the Suns will be around the mark so I think the wins will be more spread out around the West so I don't think you will need 50 maybe 47 or so. The West is just really competitve so the best 8 teams won't be as far out. But I agree with what your saying. We can always discuss this year's lottery :) if it comes to that. Also with the trouble Rudy has been having with his foot I expect him to miss a good number of games this year as well.

These sort of comments annoy me. I said earlier in the week that I think, unless we're talking about an elected official, the public actually doesn't have the right to know about somebody else's health status, but they do have the right to ask. DeMarcus and the Kings organization have the right to withhold that information, as they see fit, but I do feel like they cede the right to complain about the questions, when all they had to do to curtail the questions was to release the information.

anything that has to do with the brain and spinal cord is no joke. He should take as much time as possible to recover.
I heard bacterial meningitis is the far some serious case of meningitis, so let's be thankful it's not that.

I don't think the organization ever complained about the questions. I do firmly believe they did not want to panic the fanbase with the announcement of meningitis, knowing it could easily be blown out of proportion. What most likely happened is that they didn't know it was meningitis until his hospital stay and tests confirmed it.

Regardless of all this, the point is that we need Boogie to get well soon.

What? Other than the people who die from it, I suppose you are correct. The report from the anonymous source (not the team, doctors, or Boogie) say he will be back in 7-10 days.

I think said anonymous source may have gotten that by checking the CDC website on viral meningitis. It says recovery generally takes 7-10 days. One thing I know for sure is that the Kings are not going to risk bringing him back too soon.

People who died from this disease are usually the elderly or immunocompromise. Not a young healthy athlete

Yes, but don't shrug this off. A friend of mine did CPR on a child with meningitis and was almost annointed as a hero because of the risk he took. He did not end up catching meningitis but mouth to mouth contact was risky. It seems like sports fans like to shrug off injuries.
 
he needs to sit out until 100% ready for return...in the mean time watching Kings games isn't as fun anymore. sigh.

It still involves tissue around the brain and spinal cord. You do NOT treat it lightly. Are we seriously going to argue about whether or not someone could die from viral meningitis? Seriously? smh

My point was that I don't think arguing about whether or not it can be fatal is really what this is all about. And, if you're a doctor, I would think you'd be well aware that there are things like complications that can ensue. IMHO we need to be cautious about making blanket pronouncements about "young healthy athletes" because ... well, because crap happens.

..... and I am full of gloom and doom when it comes to medical things. I think it's part of the training.
