De’Aaron Fox

Typical Tetsu, underrating how good the current 12 year old basketball player will be for us in 7 years.
I’m sure we’ll all be lamenting not having the pick in hand to go select Donte Greene Jr. at 25th overall or something when the time comes.

Small sample size, but out of the 6 games, where Fox only played 4 and 8 minutes in Charlotte, he has shot 5.2 3pt per game, and he's hitting 38% so far.

(PS: FYI, @pdxKingsFan, here's the worldwide leader of sport, ESPN's coverage of Saturday's best regarding our game against the Magic)

Wait... are we not tanking for The Prince, Bronny?
Bronny’s eligible in a year and we’ve already promised the Hawks our pick then barring disaster so it looks like we’re gonna have to unload Fox to a team with a 2024 pick.

Seems like all the slashing guards/bigger guards have been wrecking havoc in the NBA to start the season SGA/Holiday and Fox have been really good.

This is DeAaron's best season ever. Playing great on both ends of the floor and he feels unstoppable. Is his production and scoring going to be sustainable for a whole season? The only thing I worry about is him hitting a wall because he doesn't have enough scoring help.

Sabonis is great as an initiator, but I don't think he's really a 2nd option. I'm not expecting Keegan to be the #2 this year, but we need more of the SL and preseason version of him right now. Huerter is a good shooter, but his scoring is really inconsistent. If he can put up a breakout season of 18ppg, I think we'll be close to .500. Monk has the killer instinct and confidence to be a big time scorer, but his defense is going to limit the amount of minutes he gets.

He switched on because he didn't have to play off-ball anymore.
With how well he's played off ball so far this season, one kinda shakes their head at the coaching ineptitude of the past few years. We could have retained hali and made the off ball work well if we had this coaching staff a few years ago.

This is a huge point in my mind. I am not trying to relitigate the trade (once again…), but one can only wonder if Hali/Fox could have been salvaged with a competent coaching staff.

I get the feeling that Fox wasn't necessarily frustrated last year specifically with more of an off-ball role, but that the roles and strategy just were not well defined.

I'm sure that they could play better together than we saw under Walton but I'm also not convinced there is any way that you can play them together in a way that doesn't ask at least one of them to sacrifice a big part of their game to play together. The fact that we were asking the highest paid player to make the most sacrifices was a huge problem.

One component of that problem was it forced us to move the more affordable player, if you valued them equally or even if you give an edge to Haliburton. And giving up a player on a good contract means it's extremely tough to get fair value unless you dump an undesirable contract on the receiving team, which we were fortunately able to do.

Exactly this. Neither Fox or Haliburton would be able to reach their full potential playing alongside one another. When Hali had the ball, Fox stood in a corner. When Fox had the ball, Hali stood in a corner. Their on-court chemistry was never there.

Easy to forget.. but I think everyone would agree that Fox played with a new profound energy and purpose in the game immediately after Hali was traded...

On an unrelated note, I'm amazed by how well the Fox-Sabonis duo fits. Sabonis is just one of those players that makes everyone better.

See i dont think that is a result of the players but the system. Hali and Huerter games are very similar. Hali is smaller yes, but a better passer where huerter is the better shooter. The margins are slim there. The difference is that Hali as a PG has the ball in his hands more. I think had thr system been in place you could see hali move with and without the ball as you see huerter do. Perviously our system was 5 out and put hali and fox in PnR with Holmes. They were taking turns. Ineffective for both. This system would be more conducive for them to play together... Though no doubt Sabonis offers some different wrinkles.

Who knows if we'd still end up with Keegan Murray tho. So, im good on the what could have been thing for now.
