Darren Collison

I like Collison but we already have a back up PG in Ray Mac imo, I prefer to get a starting level PG or otherwise just develop Ray.

Hmmm! I like Collison, and in many ways, he's at least partially what were looking for in a starting PG. It's not as though he hasn't started in the NBA. I think his game has improved over the years. His 3 point shot is decent. He averaged over 37% last season, and shot a very respectable 46% overall. He's shown, that when given 28 to 29 minutes per game, he'll average over 5 assists a game, and he doesn't turn the ball over much. He's a good defender, and has developed into an unselfish PG. If I have to criticize him, it would be that he's only 6 feet tall, but that's 3 inches taller than IT. If Ray has the ability to develop into a starting PG for the future, Collison would be a good fill in till Ray is ready, and at that point, if we were to keep him, he could become Ray's backup.

baja:

he'd be cheap enough to help hold down the spot while ray develops. at least he understands his position on the totem pole unlike the lil pizza gunner.

I think Collison would be a very good fit, as I had said before. I think he is a candidate for a breakout season, much like Goran Dragic this year.

I think he could be a 15ppg, 6assist, 1.5 steals per game starter.

If anything, he is a good stop gap starting PG until Ray Mac becomes the starter or the Kings draft a new PG.

I think the Kings can get him with a reasonable contract around 3 years for $12 million, much less than what IT will get.

IT or Collison? Well, let's not pretend that Collison, who has been known to shoot too much, is some sort of great sea change from IT. But what I think he does do is deepens the PG pool this summer which gives us more control of the IT situation/what we will pay there, because there will be legitimate options available who can fill the slot.

I was really impressed with him in a great battle in the playoffs.... Head to head UCLA pg s Collison vs. Westbrook. Speed Kills!!

Collison, Sefalosha, Gay, ???, Cousins

would seem to have a lot of potential

If they draft Gordon next year's team should be able to play defense, though exactly what level of offense it will have is debatable.

If we got lucky to land Randle, then he'd give us some decent offense from day one. If Vonleh fell to us then he'd be a good addition as well for PF. But I think both will be gone before we select.

Anyway, it's a good call and that line up could work.

A lot of potential? Those guys are fine role players, but I don't see potential growth there.

Depends what type of team you want to build. The Grizzlies and Bobcats are teams built around tough defense. Both teams were among the best defenses in regular season.

Now obviously neither did much in the play offs, but the one thing we couldn't do well last season was play defense. If this team could tighten up and play to a similar level to what the Bobcats did last season, and this team can find scoring production from the likes of Gay, Cousins and co - then it is a possibility this team could compete for the 7th or 8th seed.

The flip side of this is to go all out attack. Bring back IT, keep hold of Gay, and trade for Love. With IT, Gay, Love, and Cousins this team should be able to score its way into the play offs. It won't be pretty defensively, but offensively they'd be tough to stop if they clicked.

So I suppose it depends what type of team you want to build. One built around tough defense, or one built around out gunning your opposition. There is a middle ground in playing a balance of both, but with our pieces it seems more likely to be an either or.

I really hope we take Collison over IT even if it's at the same price. I don't believe we can be a true contender with IT starting at pg but we can be with Collison starting. He brings enough scoring/playmaking but what separates him is his defense. He is a very good defender at pg and that is big if we take IT over him we our defense suffers from it.

Role players? Yeah, you have quality players that do different things (roles) at different positions. That's what a team is. We're not going to have a starting 5 in which all are legitimate All Stars. No team does. Not Miami, nor the Spurs

The constant growing pains have become old and tiresome. The front office knows it and will make an effort to put a competitive team on the floor for this next season

I would take Collison over IT...bigger and better defense. You can then draft a power forward, and I think we would have a pretty solid roster.

If I was the GM I'd let IT and Gay kick rocks, add Collison Sefolosha and Ariza. Dump JT, Terry, and either Outlaw or Acy and add Larry Sanders. Draft either Vonleh/Smart/Gordon or trade down for Capela. I'm just a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.

Other than keeping the 8th pick while adding Sanders it's not that unrealistic imo.

This will really depend on a few things

1. Are we keeping the pick?
2. If we are not, then are we getting a PG in return, if yes, then we are better off spending money somewhere else.
3. If we are keeping the pick are we selecting a PG.
4. Are we matching offers on IT.

If we keep the pick and select Smart, then going after someone like Collison is not a high priority. Would be a nice player to have off the bench but, in the long term are we better off giving minuted to Ray.

A lot really depends on what happens on draft night and with trades. This will have a big impact on what our strategy is come free agency.

If we draft Smart then I very much doubt we keep IT or sign Collison. I think we start Smart and bring Ray off the bench.

If they were to add a veteran like Ariza, I think it may signal that Derrick Williams will placed back in the starting lineup at the 3 to see what he can do with that role and mindset
