I am extremely disappointed by this. I am hoping it was an aberration, a one off (perhaps a night of celebration on Memorial week end that got a bit out of control, with blame on both sides) Regardless of the NBA, or the Kings stance on this, I can not, and will not, condone violence against women or children. I hope this plays out as an over exaggerated brouhaha over nothing

I like this position. I see a lot of hand-wringing about IF this is worse case scenario and the injuries are severe but at this stage who knows. If it is, you throw the book at him and the team has to deal with it. And like-wise, if it turns out to be a over-exaggerated brouhaha over nothing, you deal with the appropriate level of response. I'll let the facts come out before getting the pitchforks out.

Very disappointing, but I'll let this play out until we know all the facts before I judge him.

But count me in as one of the people surprised at the two bench warrants for his suspended license. That is not in dispute and equally confusing considering his public persona.

I shall wait until all the facts have come out. Sometimes these things are overblown, and sometimes not. I hope it's something that just got out of control by both parties. It should be interesting to see if she presses charges now that there's been a cooling off period. I hope for the Kings and Collisons sake that it's not as serious as it appears.

It's a felony charge and will not matter if she presses charges or not. It's solely relies on the Placer County DAs office to pursue the case or drop the case. That's not to say she does not recant her statements and calls the officer's version of the events erroneous. It happens ALL the time. It's part of the vicious cycle of domestic violence, where the female fears the financial instability from losing the male's income stability.

I in general agree and I would would caution anyone not to rush to judgment.I will add however that the real world does not and should not demand the level of proof that a court of law does. Just as an example there came a point in the Ray Rice case that I and most people were very comfortable with calling his behaviors unacceptable and that they should not be tolerated by the league. His guilt or innocence in court was at that point academic to the leagues responsibility to do the right thing.
Well ... it depends ... yes, in certain, obvious situations, NBA and the Kings should not wait a year to suspend him. HOWEVER, for every Ray Rice, we have Simeon Varlamov. The dude was arrested, booed and verbally insulted in every arena for months. People demanded to deport him. He stayed cool though, refused to pay "the victim" and when things cleared in the court we all realized what the BS this case was from the very beginning, even though he was obviously guilty for the real world all that time. I am not saying that DC is innocent but we should not crucify him just yet.

To clarify I was not arguing that the Kings org nor the NBA should act without a conviction or admission of guilt, I only meant that as fans and members of the public we do not need that strict level of certainty. BUT I was also speaking in the context of DEFENDING the idea that judgment on all sides should be with held until more is known. I truly hope that DC would never hit any defenseless person. I have every intention of taking a wait and see attitude before even discussing this situation much further than I already have. But in the end, as a relatively competent adult I reserve the right to make up my own mind about what likely has occurred regardless of what court verdicts may or may not say.

Confirmed to be Collisons wife: as per yahoo sports report -

Police received a call from a woman — Collison's wife, per CBS13 — who said she was being assaulted, and when they arrived on scene around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, they witnessed visible injuries on the woman, Placer County Sheriff's Office told KCRA-TV.

It's nothing more than a confirmation of who the woman is. The stuff about the "visible injuries" has been known since he was first arrested.

Again, I caution people not to jump to conclusions. There are just too few things we know and way too many we don't.

There are two sections that can be used in domestic violence crimes: The felony section - 273.5(a) or the misdemeanor section - 243(e)(1). If a injury is visible, no matter how slight (from slight redness to full-on lacerations/bruises/etc), the felony section is applied. If an accusation is made and there are no visible injuries, the misdemeanor section is used. One thing to note, is that in domestic violence accusations, the 836PC section states the officer SHALL make an arrest in these circumstances. It's one of the only sections that mandates an officer make an arrest when it is warranted.
Thanks for posting this. I thought I had heard the same thing somewhere else. Hopefully it is just an argument that got heated and nobody was really "hurt" - sad situation all around. Hope they can sort it all out as a family and get to a place where this isn't going to happen again.

Best case scenario on the license thing - like Carmichael Dave said - could be as minor as unpaid parking tickets (or similar) that didn't get forwarded when he moved, so they didn't get taken care of.

this is true.

what concerns me is Placer County Sheriff's Office being the source of the visible injuries quote.

I guess we're viewing it differently. It doesn't seem at all out of place for the PIO (public information officer) to make a standard statement that includes basic information like "visible injuries."

"Placer county sheriff dept now reviewing evidence to see if charges will be filed against Collison." Per CBS13 10PM news tonight. Then of course that evidence (if confirmed - wife's story) referred to Placer County DA who has option to prosecute case or not. This story has ways to go before we will know just how much or how little trouble DC is in.

Violence is never acceptable in a domestic situation. Especially deplorable is violence against Women, Children and the Elderly. Not knowing what happened in this case leading up to and during this case I think it best to let the authorities work through the process and decide the outcome.

As far as how it affects Kings Basketball Collison is going to miss part of the season most likely. I would not be surprised if a change of scenery is his fate. Now the Kings head into the off season without any PG's under contract who can be counted on to be available in training camp and on opening day.

It would not surprise me to see different lead guards playing for the Kings when the season begins.

She could just have scratches. Like seriously people, let's not act like he murdered someone. People argue. Couples argue.
Yes, It could just be scratches and then again it could be a whole lot worse. And yes, couples do argue. I hope for their sake it was simply a heated moment that can be easily reconciled.
