Darnell Jackson, what gives?

Darnell is a big body, 6-9 and 255 with couple years in league. Hasn't played much: why? What is his game or does he have one?

Is he potential Brockman replacement if they carry one? Or will Kings carry extra shooter-scorer for the 1-2 and just waive Jackson? hmmm.....

He has a non guaranteed contract so he's going to be used as trade fodder. If nothing materializes then he'll be waived.

More than likely Jackson will either get waived or be part of another deal. Just like I can't fathom Antione Wright playing any minutes for us if we end up signing him as reported today...he's another 6'7 combo guard/forward, and we STILL have a logjam even after trading Noc. You have to figure something more is up, and GP is going to pull the trigger one more time this summer.

I don't know, I don't really see Greene/Casspi/Garcia/(Beno) to be a logjam. Everybody in that group would be able to get a full complement of minutes. If Wright is, as I expect, being signed as a non-rotation bench guy, I don't see a problem. Jackson doesn't seem to have much of a role, though - designated ineligible list or cut fodder. But I don't thikn that Petrie has much left up his sleeve this summer. We need a third-string point and a couple of min-contract emergency guys, and we may be done unless we find a way to upgrade the SG position.

rep is as a shortish PF, pretty good offensive player, careless defensively, overall borderline NBAer. If he makes it it would just be 13th man insurance where Brockman was going to get stuck, but presumably wihtout the intangibles.

I actually watched him play a lot when he was at Kansas. He's strong for sure, but pretty average overall. Really strong as a matter of fact.

Sorta like Dorsey last year? Does he have any strong suit (pun intended), rebounding for example? Or, bottom line we get a second round draft choice foe Brockman and both teams clear a bit more cap space!!??

Not as good defensively as Dorsey, nor as athletic. Better offensively, but still limited. Has a nice midrange game and was a good, but not great, rebounder at the college level. He's a 12th man, although he could contribute occasionally in limited minutes. Still, I wouldn't count on it.

I think the latter part of your post is true. We get a 2nd rounder for a guy who was never going to see much PT anyway, as much as we loved him.

I think what gives is that Brockman and his agent found a three year deal from Milwaukee if the Kings were willing to sign and trade him and Geoff did so as thanks for his heart and hustle for Sacramento last season.

The Kings were never going to (1) give Jon a 3 year guaranteed deal and (2) give him the playing time he'd need to secure such a deal in the future.

In my mind this deal was nothing other than a goodwill gesture by Petrie and the Kings.

A Toronto source said Jackson was a really hard worker and landed there too late to have a chance to break into a dysfunctional rotation. Said the change ahead of training camp should help his possibilities. Good enough for me. After all he is legit 6-9 and 255 and if he is a hustler gives him a chance for slot 13 on the bench.
