Danny Ainge OWES Us

nbrans

All-Star
We took on Sam Cassell and had our hopes for testicular dancing in Sactown brutally dashed when we had to waive him.

We are taking on Will "Who?" Solomon, thereby allowing Boston to shed more salary.

We are being asked to part with two heavily protected second round picks in 2714.

We waived Mikki, and he'll probably end up in Boston.

I say Danny Ainge owes us. He owes us big.

I want some cookies.

moore could go to the spurs.... they need a center more than the celtics....

Exsqueeze me?? We gave up first round picks in 2714?? Why the F would we have to do that?? I understand they are heavily protected, but why would we do that to trade a guy that was basically expiring?

My friend, you need to look up sarcasm in the dictionary.

Also I meant second round in 2714.

Yeah, after the Cassel favor I thought WE would be the ones getting some consideration in that potential Nocioni trade (of course it may have been us who scuttled it ). Instead we apparently end up doing them a second favor. But they're a famous and successful franchise, maybe they will let Geoff get a "pwned by Danny Ainge" tattoo on his forehead. Maybe Danny will even autograph it for him.

I think Ainge may not have sent brownies, not cookies, to Petrie before this deadline... But they might have had a little somethin in them...

I think everyone isn't seeing the big picture here...Petrie will soon be fired by the Kings in 2009, and will be signed by the Celtics as the assistant GM ;)

This is the part that comes as a surprise. Apart from doing Miki a favor, we don't gain anything by this. It however eliminates the possibility of trading him to a team to shed salary around the draft, and get back a pick in the process.

Might be a sign that we are not planning to use our cap next year to try and get something on the cheap (except cash that is).

I think Ainge sent GP some Boston Baked Beans. That's why GP perfers to stand in the walkway instead of seating in the stands with the fans.

problem is if we held onto him until the draft and didn't get a trade done we would owe him the full 6.2 mil of his contract. By waiving him all we pay him for next year is 2mil.

Don't forget we have KT as an expiring trade bait next season. Somebody with good player is going to be out of the playoff hunt and decide they want to shed some cap space and go after the big dogs. We may be just the team to give the that cap relief and take back a good player.

That is the ONLY reason i was concerned about the Knicks rumor.

You make an excellent point. Kenny Thomas PROBABLY will be worth much more next year and could easily get more than Nate Robinson....

Thats it I am calling it right now. everybody insist we got nothing for Webb, Bibby, Miller, Salmons, or Artest. I will call it now the best player we get from trades over the last 4 years will be who we get back at the trade deadline next year for Kenny Thomas.

Ummmm... According to Kings.com We recieved Will Solomon for a second round pick in 2014... Not a first round pick.. Petrie would not trade a first round pick for a unproven player..

On the subject of Will.. I found out some interesting stuff about him.. When Will played in europe his nickname was " King" .. Also, I looked at some of his stats/highlights and think he could be a decent point guard.. He was playing behind Jose so he never really recieved alot of minutes... If Will gets the PT, I think he could be a good back point for the Kings.. We will see

he got a long stretch of starts in January when Calderon was out. He did ok.

Starts in 9 starts this season:
29.6min 10.2pts (.464 FG% .250 3pt% .889 FT%) 2.0reb 6.6ast 1.1stl 0.2blk

Of course I think they also lost almost all of those starts, and he is clearly nobody's starter. But he's older than Brown was, and I think has more of an idea how to be steady.

Averaging 6.6 ast? Not bad... I'd like to see how he works with a cutting Kevin Martin.

:)

I think we could hold him up to the draft day and cut him for $2M.

Regardless of the exact date, holding on to him gave us the option of doing a trade after the lottery. Once we know where we stand, we can try moving up/down the draft, get additional pick, or trade for a decent young player by taking on 6M worth of salary, and effectively trading just 2M. We have eliminated that option now, just to do Miki a favor.

Harmless if we weren't planning on this option anyway, and nice to be nice to one of our players in such a case.

As for KT's expiring, it shall interest people. But that is more likely at the trade deadline. Miki's contract was attractive now, since it was a virtual expiring with only 2M buyout, so could have helped land us some picks, etc.

Do you honestly think Petrie turned down possible offers just so he could do Mikki a favor?

If he had been able to move Moore for picks, I'm pretty sure he would have done so. Why wouldn't he?

People are vastly overestimating the value of some of our players AND the trade atmosphere in general. Teams held onto picks because draft players are cheaper than veterans. And guys like Moore weren't exactly in high demand, contract or not... If it had been such a steal, someone else would have grabbed it. They didn't and we did what we had to do. And, in doing so, didn't lose anything and made it possible for Moore to entertain offers from contending teams. It's actions like that the players respect and remember - and it's something free agents talk about when they're considering various options. Teams who respect their players and treat them accordingly are often given the nod when their record would dictate otherwise...
