Dame to the Bucks!!!

From the Bucks perspective, hard not to love this for them. Dame and Giannis is a crazy fun duo and he gives them the perimeter scorer/shooter they've been missing since Middleton got hurt and working his way back from injury. Have to believe this gets Giannis to re-up too, so essentially giving them another 3+ year title window.

Jrues defense is obviously super important, but he honestly was more of a luxury with giannis and Brook playing goalie behind him.

The main concern is that I’m not sure how much longer Brook is going to be a plus defender given his age and that they moved their two best perimeter defenders in this move after losing their second best perimeter defender in free agency. Giannis is amazing but I’m not sure he can cover for all of that

I think it'll be fine. They'll take a dip defensively, but they basically can't be bad with both of them still on the team. And I think Dames offense matters way more in the conference than 5 or 6 spots on the defensive ladder

Yeah, I kind of like them holding Jrue to mentor Scoot and Sharpe, for at least half a season anyway. And they're obviously not tanking since they acquired Ayton, who's headed for his prime along with Grant's huge deal.

Scoot
Jrue
Sharpe
Grant
Ayton.

Can't shoot worth a damn, but that's a fairly talented starting 5, especially if the young guys pop.
I don't see much path for them to be good this year, but depending on what they do with Jrue I think they'll be attractive for their coaching search next summer.

Also feel like they will be potentially more attractive to a new team owner with most of the house cleaned and the next steps being a little more obvious.

I think Portland should trade Jrue to the Heat for Herro, Jovic and Jaquez then trade Herro to the Bucks for Dame.

I can understand if Barnes wasn't available either, but focusing on OG who is on an ender and most certainly wouldn't stick around for a rebuild vs. the guy entering his 3rd year with RFA controls after the next two seasons is a head scratcher.

Also from Toronto everything is a head scratcher. They think they can keep everyone and it's just going to work?

I see IT is lobbying on social media for a backup guard spot on the Bucks. Maybe they add former King legends Terence Davis and Nerlens Noel, too? Would be fun to root for them to make a run.

I mean are they contenders if they swap OG for Dame? Seems smart to stay with youth rather than trade for a 33 year old who's gonna instantly want out

I was gonna say Masai might deserve credit for recognizing the value of his guys and waiting for the right deal, but by the salary table both Siakam and OG can walk after next year, so they're maybe best hope is a trade deadline move for picks and then go deep into the tank. But they're quickly running out of time to find a solution before their guys can walk

This is one hundred percent consistent with what they've been saying on LeBatard all summer.
From LeBatard's perspective - was it Riles had a "this is what you get, we have the edge here" style of negotiation, or was it more of a "Dame wants to play here, that's nice, but we're planning on running with these guys..." kind of situation?

Honestly I don't have much ill will to Miami org here, but their fans/twitterX people were just terrible all summer.

My understanding is Siakam wants to be in Toronto and has even given indications that he would go back to Toronto in FA if traded. OG I think is looking to get paid.

I wish IT all the best but I would think they need a defender in that backup spot not a scorer whose best days are behind him.

Boogie gonna try to play for every NBA team and a few of them twice
This seems a little harsh: Cousins has only played for seven teams. The Kings had seventeen different players that played for at least that many teams, just in the time that Cousins was there. IIRC, at least five of them played for ten or more teams.

I have also long been a proponent of the principle of, if you get traded by the team that drafted you (and you didn't ask to be traded), all bets are off.

Closer to the former. According to Dan, the Heat's position has always been that there was only so much that Riley was willing to give up in order to get someone who would be owed that much guaranteed money at the end of his career. And, if the Trail Blazers thought that they could get a better offer, they should go ahead and do so.

Both Portland and the Suns got better, imo, making the Kings' life more difficult in the West. Hopefully, some other teams such as Memphis and Dallas will take a step down because otherwise the West is going to be crazy brutal.

I agree. The Suns just landed some of that depth they may have been missing. Now, they're officially deep with role guys. Have to see what Portland does though, good for them to try and really commit to their youth, they have a bright future. Ayton and Grant on the books hurts but maybe Ayton can make a big leap now.
