Dallas destroys the Lakers to move on to conference finals:

#61
im not going to lie, I wanted to see phil jackson and the lakers get one last victory and make history with a three-peat. I dont know. I dont completely hate the lakers like a lot of people around this area and revel in watching them get blown out like that. And to tell you guys the truth, it actually irks me a little when i read about how much people hate them and were glad to see them get kicked while they were down like that. And then people accusing other people of being lakers fans like its a crime or something. I know theyre our rivals and everything but still. I dont think it makes me any less of a kings fan if i cheer for any other team or even our rivals once in a while.
Then it comes down to personal values.

For me, if a group of fans ( in this case being Laker fans) took pleasure in our demise, still have players and coaches who were part of our demise, and are part of an organization that took part of our demise then yes, I will revel in their destruction.

You can't expect me to be by your side when you shot me in the back. Sure, some people in life simply can't let anyone down, even if they are evil, but like I said, this then comes down to personal values.

I will forever be a Laker hater and will cheer their every loss because those same fans are still there that laughed like clowns when we lost.

See, to me rooting for the Kobes is akin to rooting for the Naxis in WWII movies, wanting Voldemort to kill Harry, not letting Harold and Kumar get to White Castle, letting Sauron get the ring back, or wanting Jimmy Stewarts character to jump off the bridge.

I have begrudging respect for Phil Jackson and Jerry Buss (most of that is probably rooted in the arena issue) but my Lakers hate will probably persist until Kobe is either hit by a bus as he crosses the street or chokes to death on a tainted cheeseburger.

I'm curious. If any other team was on the end of that loss, would you guys think it was wrong for Dallas to run the score up like that?
**** no. This is the playoffs *****. You **** teams over and destroy their spirit, take their mojo and shove it down the next teams throat.

I was NEVER a fan of "not running the score up". You destroy your opponent to the max. You embarass them if they can't hang with you. It helps you in the long run. This isn't parent moderated tee ball. This is pro sports. Destroy them.

And by the way, I loved every second of this game.

I can't imagine a more satisfying ending to the Lakers season than the way this played out tonight.

Complete and utter humiliation, coupled with the world seeing them for the classless punk-a$$ bitches they are, is something I never would have dreamed of at the end of the regular season.

Throw on top of this treat, the retirement of Phil Jackson and the punks still under contracts that should be unmovable for better players, and Kobe is 1 year older next year and this may well be the end of the Lakers as a dominant team for quite some time.

(a little hopeful and ahead of the game, but I feel like saying) - Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead!

You must not have been a kings fan in 2002. Unless you experienced those wounds first hand, you can't imagine how deep they run!

This was one of the best nights of the year for me so far.

It's been frustrating to watch every single play-off game the last two years only to have the Lakers win the championship. It's as if I had a lot of present to open, only to find the last one a bomb which blew up in my face.

Now, I know that regardless of what happens this year, there won't be the worst-case-scenario ending.

I'm a very, very, very happy person.

Mavs fan from Dallas. I came here because I was curious about the reaction to Peja's success. He has been amazing for us, but I remember all those years when he killed us as a King.

Though I'm not a Kings fan, I always felt bad for you guys, especially when the Lakers somehow won that amazing playoff series (Horry's shot, etc). You guys should have been in the Finals that year....you were the league's best team, IMO.

Anyway, Kings fans have always been classy and you guys had the loudest rockin' arena in the league. I visited Arco a couple of times in the heydey and it was loud as hell.

Just wanted to let you know, we are united in our hatred of the Lakers. I hope Bynum's suspended for 30 games to start next season.

Hang in there....and I hope the new arena gets built.

Take care....

"Running up the score" is a complete misnomer in my opinion. You're supposed to sore as many points as possible. That game is 48 minutes. You don't stop trying to score just because the other team is playing like crap.
It's not a written rule per se, but if you're up 30 with 2 minutes left (example) n still playing hard then the players on the other team are gonna let you know about it. I've been on both sides of that fence and it's really disrespectful. With that being said...no, the Mavericks didn't run up the score. They held the ball until the shot clock was winding down and then were obviously forced to shoot. Those shots just happened to go in, and the Lakers shots didn't.

They "ran up" the score by shooting and making a lot of 3's in the 4th quarter. I can't say I really blame them. I'd be shooting a lot of 3's also knowing that if I was a midget driving to the lane I'd get cheap-shotted by a 7 footer while at the top of my jump.

Also, I have a question. Why do the thugs of the NBA always take their shirts off after they get ejected? I never really quite understood that.

Good win by the Mavs. Dirty shots taken by 2 Lakers players out of frustration. To make a blanket statement that they are just a dirty team and all the players are dirty and bring up "supporting evidence", i.e. clips of other Laker players being dirty is plain stupid. Every team has players that have a history of doing something like that.

Kobe disapproves of the act and you guys still aren't happy.

Safe to say, that's not reasonable behavior. But on this forum that obviously isn't necessary when it comes to the Lakers.

Just curious... have you watched game 6 2002? Were you a fan at the time?

It's a little hard for me to understand someone who may have witnessed that game, and would not eargerly await the day that justice would be done. All the other crap about them being completely classless as exposed in this series just drives that point home. But game 6 is the kernel.

Agreed. And since I never seen his name mentioned anywhere yet, Matt Barnes is another Laker that has a bit of a history of dirty plays, although I didn't see any yesterday

wow are you really implying that someone who has posted on this board for 5 years with over 5000 posts is actually a lakers fan in disguise? do you also think that bin laden was working for the CIA and carried out the 911 attacks so that bush would be able to attack iraq to steal their oil?
I can believe it. I'm a member of their forum as a fake fan taking cheap jabs when I see fitting. you couldn't tell I'm not a lakers fan from my posts but I love russling their feathers

This confirms my long-standing belief that some people just have too much time on their hands ;)

Well, I need to stop and examine my feelings here. Do I feel the least bit bad that Kobe and the Lakers got swept and were completely humiliated in the final game by being crushed uner the Maverick's shoes?

Amazingly, NO, not a bit, not one tiny, infinitesimal iota. I am so happy imagining the anger, disbelief and depression of so many Lakers fans.

Does that make me a bad person? ;)

i watched them casually in the glory years but didnt become a serious fan until a couple of years ago when they were at their worst and losing their popularity. wierd huh?

it was great rubbing elbows with the fans when their ship was going down. i was one of the many that suggested "our team" (the fakers) still had a chance going into the 4th down by 30. lmao.

btw, i am NOT a lakers fan. i just enjoy reading their delusional posts.

Don't forget Fisher, the other vet 'leader' on the team (and Kobe's clear #2):

Kobe and the Lakers have always been dirty. Of course he's gonna say he didn't approve of the hit. If he said anything else he'd be short a couple hundred thousand come monday.
Always! The only thing Kobe disagrees with is that he couldn't do it himself.

there was one play in the game that kobe did something. the refs ended up calling it on the other player. of course he couldn't have done anything wrong!

I love the smell of Laker defeat in the morning.

Couldn't have asked for a better script. Jackson punching Gasol in the chest. Artest clotheslining Barrea. Odom punching Nowitsky in the chest. And Bynum clotheslining Berrea. Just the kind of class act that you'd expect.

And now we get to hear from Magic Johnson that they'll break up the team and get Howard. Just send two out of Bynum, Gasol or Odom, and voila! - Howard would be in a Laker uni, all's right will be in the universe and the Lakers will continue as NBA champions. Easy peezy. Don't ya love that sense of entitlement? Doesn't that arrogance delight the senses? I'd like for the NBA to see that Magic interview and replay it over and over when they are discussing the CBA and how the small market teams need protection from the big bullies. Orlando needs to be able to keep Howard and not get punked again by the Lakers. Wouldn't that be deja vu all over again? First Shaq. Then Howard. How much can those Floridians take?

Kobe also has a LONG history of cheap-shotting players with elbows, over and over again, among other things. It isn't an isolated incident. Yes, they play dirty.

You're just deflecting to avoid answering the question.
Basketball is different. You can't really run the clock out. All you can do is take your starters out and let the chips fall where they may. The Mavs took their starters out midway through the fourth quarter, once the game was decided. It was right around the same time the Lakers took their starters out. I don't know what else you want the Mavs to do.

Last night taking their starters out WAS running up the score by the Mavs. ;)

They took their big three out also: Berea, Peja, Terry. All on the bench. Brian Cardinal, Corey Brewer and Ian Mahinma all finished the game out.

Edit: I also think it's interesting that someone would complain about the Mavs running up the score after the Lakers melted down and started cheap-shotting them in a decided series. If there's ever a time where running up the score is defensible, it's in that game.

I'm sure he'll be missing 30 game next year one way or the other, either by suspension or his annual injury
