Cousins working out in Sac video:

Nice on Cousins...

Now anyone heard about Tyreke? If Thompson is taking 1,000 shots a day, I'd like to hear that Tyreke is taking at least that many. He should be getting his fingers raw by now he's taking so many shots. Let's see, figure 10 seconds a shot, that's 10,000 seconds, or 167 minutes approximately, rounded to 2 3/4 hours. Throw in an hour for water, rest, and bsing and that's 3 3/4 hours. Double it, and you're talking a regular work day. Heck, Tyreke should get in 2,000 shots easy. Give him a couple of days off during the week like the rest of us working stiffs and he gets in 40,000 shots over the course of a month. If that doesn't solve it, nothing will.

I think your true profession should be as a tough trainer. However, your right! Thats what Tyreke needs to do. Not just take shots, but take them with the proper form. And to do that, you definitely need a shot master there. Another thing that always stuck in my mind was a comment by Larry Bird. He said pick out your favorite spot on the floor, and practice from the spot until its automatic. He said he would develop one spot an offseason. The reason being, that once the league figures out that you like that spot, they'll take it away from you, so then you need another spot to go to.

If its good enough for Bird, then its good enough for Tyreke!

destination: Promise land

Btw I wish EVans was right there next to him i hope he's really putting in work too.

I just spoke to Doc Evans @Bluprintceo He had some good news for Kings fans. @TyrekeEvans will be back in town for his VSP basketball camp on June 15 & 16. According to big brother, Tyreke is in beast mode, weighing in at 219-pounds and 5% body fat. Big summer plans for team Tyreke.

We saw improvement from Reke in season with the shot doc, considerable improvement towards the end, although it's never admitted around these parts, so I'd at least be optimistic we'll see an improved jumper next year, after turning down Team USA to stay home and work on his shot.

BTW, shooting isn't about jacking up a shot per second for two hours, or whatever you're getting at. It's making sure the form is correct, which is damn hard when trying to break old habits. Then it's slowly integrating various moves, then pulling up for the jumper. As in, cross left, shot. Cross right, shot. Cross left, step back on balance, shot. Cross right, step back in balance, shot. Catch, pump fake, two dribbles to the left, shot. And so on.....gradually increasing the speed until you can mimick game situations with correct form.

Bigs make the jump in year 3. Considering Cuz was already at 17/11 in 30mpg last season....I'm expecting some monster numbers. 22/12 at the least, probably more if he gets his fouls down and mpg up.

Anybody else have the daydream of Cuz in the playoffs and being ejected in the first minute of his first game? No? Ok, neither have I....

...so this is encouraging:

On watching and picking things up from the NBA playoffs.

Cousins: Absolutely. Just how (Tim Duncan) keeps his composure. He never really gets rattled. Tony Parker, the way he controls the game. Kevin Durant, the same way. Miami, how they stay aggressive. So, I’m watching all that.

DeMarcus actually looks like he's put on a few lbs of fat. Nothing too major, but still. Though it is good that he's back in the gym already working out, and he's saying the right things of course. Hopefully other guys show the same dedication as him. Too many more losing seasons and Cousins is not going to hang around.

Good to hear.

He really needs to work on his conditioning to put himself up there with the top players of the league. He certainly has the skill, and the mentality. His body is the only thing holding him back from becoming a legitimate top big man in the league.

Every summer reke works on his shot and comes into the season with it looking tops. After the early season gives way though to the regular grind it goes missing. Im not worried at all about him putting in work and getting his J up to where it needs to be. Im worried about it staying the course through the season

I guess that's where even more repetition and taking "game-like" shots plays a big part. Like you said, as the season wears on and he tires mentally and physically he reverts to his old habit of fading away, unless he makes that effort to correct it midway like he did late last season. What repetition seeks to achieve is to replace that natural habit of fading away with a natural tendency to shoot in good form. If not fading remains second nature and he has to make a conscious effort not to his shot will never stay good throughout thw whole season.

Through an odd sequence of events I was actually involved in getting University of Colorado players in shape many years ago. Coach didn't want them to have high impact, so we got them in the pool and had 'em do exercises. I had them repeatedly jump (while they were chest high in the water) over a line hung above them. They were to make their way acoss the pool while jumping up and clapping above the line. Then I had them keep their hands above the water and jump so it was basically only legs they were using. Talk about a work out. We just had to make sure we didn't do it in the deep end; some of those boys might have drowned....Sometimes my germanic background just can't help itself...:D

With respect to Tyreke, I still say Mr. Miagi should get a bamboo cane and whack him on the shin everytime he does that Las Vegas high kick. Guarenteed that he stops doing it, pronto. Personally, rather than a spot on the floor, I'd start with a distance on the floor. And it would be 12 feet out. Have him do 1000 of those at different angles, using PERFECT form, then try 1,000 at 15 feet for the remainder of the day. After a month or so maybe he can graduate to a 15' and 18' foot distances.

You're not telling me anything I don't already know. If you start from 12 feet out and have a ballhandler feeding you balls, 10 seconds is more than enough time to get a shot off in perfect form, at different angles, with a bounce or two preceeding it, if that's a part of the regiment for the day. And forget the step back crap. That's the last thing I want Tyreke practicing. That's like adding fuel to fire at this point. He needs to constantly be thinking of perfect balance. Stepping back on the shot is something he can do a few years from now, IF he gets an ordinary shot down. Just give me an ordinary balanced jumper. As an aside, it was irritating to me that IT was starting to do that step back crap at the tail end of last year. And, of course, he was missing. I was wondering if he had started to go the Garcia/Tyreke Evans school of shooting. The leg kick is signature for that school.

Our coaching staff is third rate. Thats the problem with the development of our youngins. Not that everyone here doesnt already know that.

At least we finally have a good bigman coach (sorry SAR).
