Will the King make a trade by the deadline?

The trade deadline is Feb 19... do you think the Kings will make a trade by then? If so, will it involve any starters/key players or just scrubs?

Also, in option 1, it should just be starter, not "key starter"

I predict Miller will be gone pretty soon. And Salmons I'm not so sure but look's like some teams are taking a look at him this season.

16 days left, still no action... but the league has been quite so far...

Most likely any move by us will be close to the deadline. Since our players are not most team's first options and any offers they make for them now will probably be lowballing us.

It will most likely be right before the deadline before a fringe contender/playoff team realizes "Oh, Brad Miller or John Salmons is the best player we can get, ewww" and Petrie realizes, "Oh, an expiring contract and a late first round pick is the best I can get for Brad Miller or John Salmons, ewww" and a trade finally gets done.

Agreed - I think some teams are feeling about for "better" options or combinations now - as the date gets closer I think things will start moving. I think at least one of Brad, Beno, or John is gone in the next 2± weeks.....

I think that with the recent injurys around the league, some of our players look to be viable options in more and more situations, making them look more valueable.
Hopefully, Miami & Portland start to get nervous about them being moved elsewhere, and decide to make a move before their gone.

I don't see John being traded if Brad isn't. And, unless we get a viable starting PG from some other trade, Beno stays for another year. Everything depends on Brad being moved. If he doesn't go first, then there's no sense in moving the others because we won't gain enough cap space to be a player in 09.

Ultimately, GP needs the team to play better and stop bleeding money. If one of the potential star PG isn't available in the draft (rubio, holiday, ect don't enter the draft), he'd be silly to trade away our best option at starting PG without a replacement. John is still the best overall performer on the team, so unless we get a significant upgrade an another position he'll probably stay too. Without John all of Martins' defensive liabilities get exposed, when Martin will be forced to defend the best SG's in the division instead of letting Salmons cover them.

Possible Miller trade

I don't think they would trade away Brad Miller just before the Chris Webber celebration. It may be there's something in the works and they're just waiting ...

I don't think it would be too bad to keep salmons another year, but miller needs to be traded. He is 32 years old and I think if the kings hold onto him, the kings will get almost nothing for him. As for Beno, I don't think he is going to be a starting point guard anywhere else, so why trade him? He will be a good backup point guard, but he is paid too much.

Wow! that seems like the perfect reason TO trade him. Unless you want him to be our overpaid backup (brittle) point guard. If Dallas or Orlando offers anything reasonable for him I say go for it.

Basically I don't think anything is going to happen until Miami decides where they are going to trade Marion. If the Kings can unload Miller/Thomas in that deal, then you can start trying to trade Salmons and Udrih and Moore for expirings and picks, setting yourself up for a lot of room in the offseason.

But if that trade doesn't happen, it doesn't make much sense to trade Salmons for an expiring because the Kings won't have cap room in the offseason wtihout the Miller/Thomas trade.

I think the holdup to all of these rumored deals in the NBA is Pat Riley.

Didn't wanna start another thread on this, but the Kings have 3 articles on RealGM today about rumors.

1. The Thunder have interest in Salmons Link

2. Miller and K9 could still end up in Miami or Chicago Link

3. Dallas, Orlando, and New Orleans may be interested in Beno Link

Those are just copied from Amicks' piece in this mornings Bee.

i think geof hopefully make a trade real soon i think he probably was waiting til after the webber 4 retiring so this day wouldn't be overshadowed by a trade so lets cross those fingers and hope something happens fast because i've been loyal since 85 but been having a tuff time watching these games.

I am not certain of anything with Geoff. I would have chosen "I don't know but they danged well better" if it had been an option. ;)

I'm with ya man, been there since day one, 1985...I just hope Geoff finds a good suiter for Miller, Thomas, Douby and Moore...even if its just for expirings, I'll take it! More money for us after NEXT season! I just want to get NEXT season over with already! lol I do think we'll get some offers for Martin, but not sure if Geoff will pull the trigger...as far as I'm concerned, I'd keep Thompson, Hawes, Greene, Martin(Obviously if something great was offered I'd have no problem parting ways, like the Bosh rumor I heard last week)and I'd probably keep Cisco too, although I'm sure alot of other teams are going to offer up decent bounties for him...everyone else can go!

Because Martin is a BYC player, there is little chance he can be traded for anyone of value, and Cisco is in a similar situation. GP has made it clear, cap space is a high priority. But, unless he gets a young talent in return, I don't think he'll trade Salmons. So, I can see him playing hard ball with Portland over Bayless. And, rather than take back a bad contract to trade Miller & K9, he just might wait until their contracts expire.

NY is going to let Marbury's contract expire, rather than trade him to the Kings and have to pay through 2010. Cleveland won't brake up their happy home for our junk. So, it's all up to Miami, if they decide to take Miller over JO then the flood gates open and GP move everyone he can. But, without a Miller trade, the only people that might get moved are MM & QD.

If portland wants to make it past the second round, they will need salmons. He cannot be left alone, unlike half thier roster.

Everyday since February started I've been hoping the damn Kings make a trade. Hopefully tomorrow I see an article that says either Brad or Salmons is gone.

i hope he dosn't wait until k9 and b52 contracts expire that means where stuck with them for anouther year hopefully he treades them and gets value if not at least get expirings so we don't have to watch b52 cry to the officals and hes guy dunk on the other side of the court

Man o man am I itching for some sort of movement or change on the Kings roster. It is the 9th? Ten days left... let's get it going!

Yeah, I'm expecting something any day now. It's not like Geoff to be active in the last few hours. He usually does something around this time.

Nine days left...since there has been so little movement, it feels like the calm before the storm. It seems like once Miami, Toronto and maybe Phoenix decide what to do with their players, trades will fall like dominoes. Quickly and widespread, but no movement until the big names are moved... just waiting...

Well, I think Brad Miller is going to have to come back before anything happens. Teams are going to want to see that he's healthy before they trade for him.
