Coping with Lins

See part 2 of my business analogy. As a fan I see the long term benefit to maximizing our draft potential over the enjoyment of beating the Clippers in a meaningless game.

As far as last year, we got Tyreke! That would not have happened had we picked 8th or 9th.

Ah, but admit it. It wouldn't have happened if we'd gotten #1 either. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for... Draft picks are a crap shoot. How many times has the preemptive #1 not turned out as expected?

:)

And where would we be if we'd had Blake Griffen with the 1st pick and on the shelf all this year? Another 65 loss season, and no sense of direction, that's where. So I'm happy with the way things have turned out this year. And like I've been saying, don't discount the 'trade' aspect of our upcoming pick. For some reason, I think this year more than any other in the past, Petrie will be more inclined to package our pick for a major veteran upgrade of some sort.

The Clippers are a testiment to this! Remember one Michael Olowokandi?

I'll tell you how I approach every game. While I'm watching the game, I'm cheering and rooting for my team to win. It probably wouldn't matter if logic told me that it would best for them to lose, because in the heat of battle my brain only allows the idea of winning to enter. But after the game, and if its a game that we lost, I find comfort in the fact that were a little closer to a good draft pick.

So you see. In my twisted mind, its a win/win for me. If we win the game, I'm happy. But if we lose the game, then in my twisted way, I'm still happy. It helps to drink a few cervesa's as well. Maybe have a couple of shrimp with cocktail sauce. Or my favorite, coconut shrimp.. Gotta go, getting hungry..:)
That's about where I'm at. I root for a win during the game. But if we lose, I really don't feel too bad.

Now that the Kings lost to the Nets, you all are coming around to the thinking of all my previous posts.....sometimes it takes a loss like that to see who you really are: terrible. I think it is funny when they lose because they have a "give up" mentality. If the Maloofs were smart, they would move the Kings to Las Vegas. A move helped the OKC Thunder...perhaps a change could help the Kings.

Whatever dude, they don't have a give up mentality. You need to stop and think before you post. Your post is just plain retarded right now.

A lost like that doesn't mean crap. Hasn't change any of our minds except for guys like you.

I want to reply with something really mean and spiteful but I know that is not in the spirit of this board, so I will simply say "You should be a Lakers fan". :p

Ok kid, and I can only assume you are a kid, but who knows. Now in your latest post you've come on and rooted for the Sacramento Kings to be moved to Las Vegas. An utterly classic troll line uttered by oh, let's say Lakers fans for instance.

I'm just telling you straight up and right here, next time you make a post that sounds like it came straight off Lakersground I am just going to ban you straight out.

While I do think Brick's general premise is correct...

Agreed. The franchise didn't hold onto Oscar Robertson, Mitch Richmond, Chris Webber, or pretty much anyone else until they were 35, and I can't even think of who the last player (who didn't suck) was who stayed with the franchise their entire career. So I'm not holding my breath now.

Pierce, Kobe, Dirk and Duncan are all working on it. Payton was in Seattle until 34. Rewggie Miller of course. David Robinson. Jordan was in Chicago to 35. Hakeem was in Houston until 38. About the same for Ewing in New York. Kevin Johnson. Superstar level players rarely move around. The deck is stacked to keeping them, and once you've got your own little kingdom constructed for you someplace, the temptations are not that great.

Who knows, the new collective bargaing agreement, at least the one proposed by the owners, could change that. And if it does, well **** the owners because that would suck. But bgitime guys often and stay in one place until they are old enough that they are not really big time guys anymore.

I'm a fan that cares about and is very much into team development and the draft. So, I'm hoping for lins, sue me. I think at this point it benefits us more to lose these games than win them. Especially when you consider (like brick has pointed out) that this is most likely (and hopefully) our last top 10 pick. So I'd like for us to do everything we can to make it count as much as it possibly can, since we're in this position regardless of whether we lin or wose from here on out. This may be our best and last opportunity to add a young, cheap, impact player to our (hopefully) eventual championship contending core. It won't be easy to do it otherwise, with trades, free agency, and middle to late first round picks.

I have changed nothing about my thinking due to any post by you. Not sure where you got that idea. I do not think they are terrible and I certainly do not think they have a "give up" mentality.

The move is not what helped the Thunder. Its who the Sonics drafted that made the biggest difference for that team.

Blech. Sorry but you people who keep cheering for "lins" need to deal with reality. The Kings front office is doing everything possible to get fans back in the seats. People do NOT pay to see a team not try to win.

We don't have to hope for losses. What we as fans need to do is cheer for our team to win, give them encouragement and hope, and accept that they aren't going to win very many the rest of the year.

This lin and woss stuff is just silly, IMHO. You're trying to mix two different objectives - getting enjoyment from a basketball game you've paid good money to see and building a team for the future for more enjoyment and possibly a title.

Our job is to do the rooting. The front office's job is to build the team for the future.

i've paid to watch several games this year. i must be in the minority because i'd rather watch them grow and lose than "win now". are these people who pay to watch them win fair weather fans? what attracts fans is the product on the floor, win or lose.
