the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. While I am in South Sacramento (District 5), I am sending the following message to every member of the Board of Supervisors. I encourage you to do the same.

"I live in South Sacramento and I am very much in favor of letting the voters decide on the new plan for an arena and entertainment complex. I am excited about the idea of turning our railyard into a top notch entertainment showcase. Please support the placing of this issue before the voters in November. Thank You!!"

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about a possible new facility to replace Arco Arena.

Tomorrow, July 25, the Board of Supervisors will hold a hearing to discuss whether to place on the November ballot a measure to add one quarter percent sales tax for a limited period of 15 years. That would mean the additional tax would be .25¢ on a $100 taxable purchase if the voters approve such an increase. If the proposal is placed on the ballot there would be an accompanying measure seeking an advisory vote by the public on funding a proposed new sports and entertainment complex as well as allocating funds for community improvements like better roads, libraries, and parks to enhance the quality of life for residents living in Sacramento County.

You can view the materials online that have been prepared for the Board’s deliberations (this is the same information I will be studying for Tuesday’s meeting). Please go to www.saccounty.net and click on the “Quick Links” identified as SacCounty TV. Next click on the Board of Supervisors’ Tuesday Meetings and that will allow you to access the agenda and materials for the session on July 25 and go to Item 43.

Many people have strong views on the subject of whether or not taxpayer funds should be used. If the sales tax measure is placed on the ballot, it will allow the public to decide the issue one way or another. I appreciate you letting me know where you stand. I expect the issue to be strictly scrutinized by all sides and the merits debated thoroughly amongst the public if the Board puts the issue to a vote of the people.

Sincerely,

SUSAN PETERS

Supervisor, Third District

Please support the new arena. I think it will be the greatest asset Sacramento has, a place to have ice skating, boxing, conventions, concerts, basketball, ...so many possibilities and all in Sacramento.

Well, I wrote to all of them, since I live in Yuba City. And, of course, I was my usual long-winded self. ;)

I wrote to mine. I know him (saw him most recently at a local city council meeting) and was coached by his dad in high school basketball. :)
