Congrats Boogie! First All-Star Game

Anyone who makes the team, however they get there, is an All-Star. If they're really going to get nit-picky about leaving guys out of the "official" recognition for the event it should be the fan-voted ones who basically just won a popularity contest. But even that would be arbitrary and unnecessary. There's no shame in being hand-picked by the commissioner to play in the game. Boogie should have been an All-Star last year and we all know he's more than earned it this year as well.

Agree. He deserves to be an all star as he did last year. I just wanted to make sure this one technically goes down in the books that Cousins was an all star this season.

Actually, getting picked by the commissioner has more merit than getting picked by the fans. The commissioner knows the league and knows who deserves to be there. The fact that some of the players got voted in over Cuz, shows that its nothing more than a popularity contest. In fact, Cuz is replacing Kobe, who doesn't deserve to be an all star this year. Poetic justice.

From his days at Kentucky, till now, its been a tough uphill battle, but you finally made it Cuz. You deserve it! Congratulations !!! Now go kick some butt, and most of all, have fun.

My point exactly. :) So happy Boogie is finally getting some official recognition for his exploits. It's well deserved!

The word is that he

The word is that the commissioner picked Boogie simply because he had the next highest amount of votes from coaches. It was not a matter of personal preference. Still a good sign that at least he's turning some coaches heads.

Do you care to share them with us?
sorry!

After the announcement, Cowbell Kingdom reached out to former Sacramento Kings head coach Michael Malone for comment on his previous pupil.

“I am delighted to hear that DeMarcus was named to the All-Star team,” Malone told CK. “It is a well deserved honor that not only recognizes his immense talents as a player, but also his growth as a young man. In know this will be the first of many All-Star appearances for DeMarcus as the best is yet to come. I am proud of DeMarcus and will always have the utmost respect for him as a player and as a person.”

Pure class, and a talented coach.

We were lucky to have him, and stupid to let him go.

Because he is an alternate. Is it really that hard to see the other side of why he wouldn't be counted as an all star on his resume?
Yes, it is.

First of All™, this is the ninth straight season that there has been at least one Commissioner's selection to replace an injured player. And second, look at a guy like Ray Allen: he was named as an injury replacement three times. Do you think he's referred to as a seven-time All-Star, or a ten-time All-Star?

More DeMarcus Cousins on All-Star: "The first person I called was my mother. She was screaming on the phone. You know how mothers do"

DeMarcus Cousins on being named an All-Star replacement: "This whole process has been crazy ... It's a happy day for me"

Has to be a load off his mind. Hopefully it helps keep him from spiraling with the state of the team at least up through the All Star break.

This honor really was important. Not only to break through his own personal glass ceiling, but just in cementing his stature and leadership credentials. it just has to add confidence.

hopefully it will lead to some inspired play by demarcus (as if 24/12 isn't inspired enough), and perhaps the kings might even feel inclined to win a game or two as a result. i already know what needs to be done in order for this team to improve, and these big losing streaks won't help. i don't want another sub-30 win season, and if it takes another sub-30 win season for this new regime to wake up and adjust their plan accordingly, well, then they certainly don't deserve boogie...

This was LONG overdue. Hopefully this is one of many and he gets a nice and long streak going here with the appearances. I now have a reason to watch the All-star game which I haven't watched in years.

Tend to agree, but if he's dominating, he may. Everyone gets competitive towards the end and Kerr will probably figure out pretty quickly that Boogie is going to give him the best chance to win.

I don't know, the games never mattered to me (I wish they made it hold more weight) and everyone either just chucks it or goes iso (or starts a dunk contest). But still fun to watch

Congrats to Boogie - it's a big relief to not have to feel like breaking out the tar and pitchforks out to rampage against the NBA for the snub.

I predict that after the Alll-Star game, DMC will lower his gear from 5th gear to 4th and maybe 3rd now that he's made it.
He did similar last year, and I think until the front office wakes up and acknowledges how badly they've treated the team, the players, and/or the fans, then he (and most of the rest of the team) will continue slacking off.
Except now, they really don't have ANYthing to play for.
I think Cousins' All-Star bid was one of the only things they had to play for, and since Boogie was one of the only ones performing well, now he doesn't have to kill himself out there.

Confidence...and gravitas.

You really gotta wonder...what is Cousins ceiling as a basketball player? top 3 in the NBA? Best in the NBA? Top 5 all time even?!?
