With Haliburton out for the season, Mathurin might average 20ppg. And if that happens they're going to wish they signed him to an extension already because his asking price will be going up.
Maybe Benn was asking for more than Keegan got who knows. It does go both ways. But the amount of players not being extended that I would at least consider promising is quite alarming wrt to the current CBA and what we just saw with Kuminga. Of course whatever happens with Kuminga will likely impact how these players manage RFA. But a lot of these guys would have been getting overpaid on promise in the past. I guess that's good for cost control but reflects what a terrible deal the players signed and also it really sucks for fans - think about how much we hate giving up on a second rounder in these parts and multiply it x 1000 for a top 10 pick who doesn't suck, but between player and team they can't reconcile the modern salary structure.

What is Detroit doing? Those extensions should be automatic. Unless they're also pinning their hopes on the Giannis sweepstakes?
Again assume these guys were so easy and automatic in the past the salary expectations between player and team by the new CBA are out of whack.

Given the severity of Ivey’s injury issues I can sorta understand that one but Duren and Cade have been the entire basis of their team for the last couple of seasons so I’m really not sure what they’re trying to do there unless they’ve got their eyes on a big name big to pair with Cade going forward.

Could happen. This is obviously a new NBA with these aprons. Some teams are taking the Warriors approach where they're going to let the market set itself rather than just going out signing those rookie max extensions which seemed to be almost a guarantee for decent young players back in the day. Strange times where some coaches are making player level salaries and rookies are being allowed to go into the market.

I can't possibly be the only Gen-Xer who doesn't deify Michael Jordan.
It's complicated but I will say I enjoy picking apart the mythos along with just generally noting if he came up in the social media age so many of his vices would have been public his good guy image would be irreparably tarnished.

...still those 80s dunk contests... and OG Jordans ...
