[NBA] Comments that don't warrant a thread (MAR)

Like Kobe wasn't jacking up every shot in the 4th quarter to boost his points? His wasn't any more "natural" of a record - the Lakers won by 18 while he was jacking up his point total.

I don't hold any record sacrosanct. If you can beat it - go out and beat it. The pearl clutching is hilarious.
 
Victor Wembanyama has missed his fifteenth game of the season. He can only miss two out of the last sixteen and remain eligible for post-season awards.

As an old man who yells at clouds often, I get the instinct to hold onto the way you first experienced things, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But time keeps moving, standards keep shifting, and instead of guarding those old goalposts, why can't we just let them appreciate the achievements themselves?

Every generation sees things through the lens of its own era, which is why these debates never end. Let each generation have its wins, the future will sort out what truly stands the test of time.

PS: According to spectators, his own team was missing FTs intentionally and passing it to Wilt immediately to chase the 100. The other team was trying to run out the time and quadruple teaming him just like the Wizards did to Bam.

Have you seen the movie Nope? The "old man yells at cloud" meme is supposed to be a joke at the expense of the hopelessly out of touch older generation and an implied assumption that technological progress is unambiguously beneficial to those who embrace it. An alternative interpretation though is that the archetypical "old man" with a lifetime of experience and an outsider's perspective on the present cultural moment may simply be trying to warn us of something which is crystal clear from their point of view but obscured from ours. Maybe we are too quick to dismiss those outsider perspectives and mock that which runs counter to our cultural assumptions?

The Bam vs. Kobe situation is probably a better example of "pearl clutching" from a fanbase who is accustomed to feeling like the basketball world revolves around them. This wasn't an affront on Kobe's legacy, it was an affront on Lakers fans' rightful place at the center of the NBA narrative for 'gasp' one... single... night. Kobe 100% would have been cheering Bam on for breaking his record. I don't think he was the type to sit on past successes and gatekeep.
 
Is it just me, or is almost every game on Amazon Prime a blowout? I definitely haven’t caught every game, but I feel like every time I sit down to watch a game on Prime, it’s an awful one sides game.
 
It's kind of crazy how Eric Collins and Dell Curry moonlight for Amazon Prime, and end up getting to do Hornets games on a national broadcast. That'd be like if they let Mark and Kayte call the game for ESPN tonight. I mean, even when Mike Breen does Knicks games on ESPN, he doesn't get to do them with Clyde.

IMHO, that specific play you speak of didn't warrant an offensive foul. And it's because of what Spencer Jones didn't do on that play, and that is to try and sell a push off from Luka.

The other problem you have there is that the officials tend to let them play on the final possession, and not call anything (which I don't necessarily mind, honestly).

Also, not quite sure why you keep on acting surprised at the fact that push offs are not called more often in the NBA - this has been the norm for many years. Even well before SGA and Luka came into the league. Some defenders sell it well, and some don't. If you sell it well, you're gonna get the benefit of the doubt as a defender. Well, at least you're more likely to get the benefit of the doubt...If you don't sell it well (like Spencer Jones), you're not going to get the benefit of the doubt.
