Clippers interested in Udrih?

The Clippers will reportedly be interested in the services of Kings point guard Beno Udrih if the proper player doesn't fall to them with the seventh overall pick, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The Knicks could follow the same school of thought, with both teams only able to offer Udrih the mid-level exception.

Don't have the Sac Bee link but here is the link on RealGM.

That means Westbrook is probably going to the Clips.. I don't think they were interested in Augustin...

I have a feeling Westbrook will be there though, and the Clips might take him and keep him in LALA land.

You mean Gordon is going to the Clips? Or you mean westbrook to the Knicks?

Doubt there's anything to it. I'm not too bothered about Beno either way. Don't mind letting him go.

Since we have XXXXX XXXXX to replace him? What starting type PG do Kings have or reasonable chance to get. If not Beno then Kings add another year to get to the rebuild cycle. I think the Kings have already worked out a deal of 4 years at the mid-level maybe even with some incentives. I hope as there is nothing else.

I think the Kings really need Beno, atl least for now. He is the smart, pass first point guard that the kings have wanted. I think the Kings should sign him, but still continue to pursue a guard that can share minutes with Beno and hopefully earn the starting spot.

Yeah, who else but Beno. Unless Deron Williams gets mad at Sloan and wants to come to Sac, we have to keep Beno.

We'll make due at the point. He's not good enough to throw our cap plan out the window for, no thanks.

We currently have zero point guards on our roster - hard to believe it's ZERO! Sounds like deja vu last season when Bibby went down and it was PG by that stellar committee of Garcia/Douby/Greene/whoever, leading the charge. Then Beno Udrih came in and did a very nice job on the fly with little NBA experience, no Kings training camp and now just coming into his prime. I say we keep him since we have so-so few options at that critical position. The assumption is he starts next season and gives the team even more. Maybe worst case (from Beno's perspective) is lightening strikes, we get a PG from somewhere (draft/free agent) who backs him up solidly taking some significant minutes or ousts him in which case Beno becomes valuable back-up. I understand the cap issue, but that should take care of itself if Artest opts out, a significant trade or two happens, and of course 2010 a huge chunk drops off the books. A resigned Beno is more good than bad as things stand, IMO.

Same here i would hope for a 2 year plus 1 year team option for Beno and then pursue the heck out of Deron Willaims in 2010.

We'll find a servicable PG, we need to stick with the cap plan or we're going to MLE ourselves into no cap space yet again. If we aren't willing to suffer the growing pains we're never going to get back into contention.

Co-signed, unless we can get a young guy with potential for the MLE.

I like Beno. But I don't think we should invest what he's trying to get on the open market. Finding a 1-2 year replacement is not very difficult.

Beno's stats: 32 min/12.8 pts/4.3 ast/.86 stl

Here are some unrestricted free agents and their recent stats:

Earl Boykins: (in 06/07) 33 min/14 pts/4.5 ast/.9 stl
Chris Duhon: 22.6 min/5.8 pts/4.0 ast/.71 stl
Anthony Carter: 28 min/7.8 pts/5.5 ast/1.54 stl
Anthony Johnson: 22 min/5.6 pts/3.8 ast/.75 stl
Damon Stoudemire: 21.6 min/7.3 pts/3.9 ast/.7 stl

And these guys are very light on the pocketbook.

Im happy for us to resign Johnson and take a pg in the draft, having johnson backing him up. Beno wants his money and the reality is he is most likely going to convince someone to give him the midlevel and petrie will smartly let him go. Vlade4GM pointed out that we really need to stick to our cap plan or else we will never get out of this rebuilding model

It doesn't matter who we replace him with. Replace him with an UDFA for all I care. If anything, it will speed up the rebuild as we'd be losing more games. Exactly what this team needs - higher draft picks. Could you explain how another year would be added to the rebuild? As far as I can see, the rebuild hasn't even begun. Letting Beno walk would at least slightly improve the chances of a high draft pick.

That deal would be horrible. Four years of MLE? He's not even a MLE type talent. And for four years? If we do re-sign him, I'd hope it's no longer than two years. He's not even that young.

2010 cant come soon enough.

Why's that? Explain to me why things will just turn around for us in the year of 2010, which people keep throwing around. We might have cap space. Cap space alone isn't going to do much. Their won't be any Lebrons or Kobes on the FA market. Anything less than that will keep us in mediocrity, ala signing another Artest.

I like Beno, but this seems like a trap. The MLE is fine, but engaging in a sweepstakes is out of the question. I would rather trade for another vet or pick up DJA or Bayless if he slips than overpay for DRANO!

We can't engage in a sweepstakes for Beno. We're over the cap and we don't have his Bird Rights. The MLE is the most we are allowed to offer him.

I'm glad we don't have more than MLE to pay him. If he gets more, which I still doubt, more power to him. But I certainly wouldn't want the Kings to give him more.
