STATEMENT FROM STATEMENT FROM GEOFF PETRIE REGARDING CHUCK HAYES
“This morning, in one of the most heartbreaking moments of my professional or personal life, Chuck Hayes was notified that he failed his physical exam with the Sacramento Kings. Subsequent to that, the contract signed on December 9th has been voided. At Chuck’s request, we will have no further comment at this time

I see SAMMY coming back now but this is horrible news on all fronts.

This is very sad news, especially for Chuck personally, but as a business, we don't have much time to find an alternative. We're back below the salary floor as well, right?

I think there's 2 viable/sensable options: AK47 and Sammy D...get it done Geoff.

And not much time to do it, either. I mean, we might have until the end of the day to lock one of those two up. But, because of Hayes tragic situation, we can offer 5M more per year.

It may actually benefit the team if this leads to us signing Dally or AK, but damn I feel bad. Wish the best for Chuck.

Better they find this out now than carrying him off the floor during the season. Hope he stays healthy.

Time for the pursuit of Dalembert!

I've had more "lump in my throat" moments that came from my favorite basketball team. Too many...

I'll be praying that Chuck Hayes is ok and lives a long and happy life.

This sucks all around. I was looking forward to seeing Chuck with the Kings, and he deserved a good contract. Hope it all works out.

1) terrible to hear.

2) Real games start in one week. Without Dalembert now, this team is toast. Even with just AK, this team is done. We need some defense at a big position ... Hayes gave us that. If we go into the year counting on JT/Cousins/Hickson to defend anyone ... good luck sniffing the playoffs. DMC will be in constant foul trouble.

Dalembert needs to come back and he needs to come back now.

This caught me off guard. The last I'd heard the additional tests on Hayes were all coming back fine. Chuck Hayes is the type of NBA player that is very easy to root for. And I'm rooting that he'll make a successful return to the court, but that more importantly his heart condition is not life threatening. Best wishes to him.

This is terrible news. I wish Chuck the best - I was really looking forward to seeing him in purple. I can only hope that his condition, like that of LaMarcus Aldridge, or that of Jeff Green, is reparable and that he can return to the NBA floor as soon as he is healthy. I am a bit discouraged by Petrie's statement, though. It was quite strong. It didn't exactly sound like "we think he's going to be OK, but there was this little heart murmur and we didn't want to risk it".

A LITTLE heart murmer? This is why GMs aren't doctors.
