Chris Lehane goes into more detail..

Chris Lehane, executive director of #Think Big Sacramento and author of the now infamous comparison of the Maloof brothers to the North Koreans, has issued a public letter going into more detail about recent happenings.

It's well worth the read:

This man knows what he is doing.

First, makes the vivid and bound-to-be-printed statement about the North Koreans to draw attention to himself and the issue. Then, issues this letter in order to get the actual facts out there. This is a FANTASTIC letter, and a GREAT move politically by Lehane, who is really starting to look like the truth-teller that is needed. If you're the City, you simply can't let the Maloofs statements be the only one's on record, and the only ones that the media has to draw from to write their articles. Already, the ESPN piece presents a view skewed by the misrepresentations of the Maloofs. This letter though, lays is all out perfectly clear, in an in-arguable way. NICE JOB LEHANE!!!

Lehane is a political strategist. The Maloofs just took this game to his home court.

Anybody taking bets?

I guess I'm not surprised that the Maloofs wanted to have a joint press conference with KJ, having the Mayor of Sacramento announce their sabotage of the deal as a "no-fault divorce". I'm really not surprised. Ashamed that they are members of the human race, but not surprised.

It has. It's the lead story on http://www.news10.net/

National media... they may have taken notice, it was submitted to USA today. Rest assured this Lehane guy has all the contacts in the media he needs in order to whoop up a rain of pain on the Maloofs. I'll post his wiki once again if folks care to read up on the guy.

Very well written letter. Makes me hate the Magoofs even more!

I said the same thing last year too.. Anaheim deal was a bailout for the Magoofs, in terms of their financial situation, and if they weren't able to sustain then Samueli would take over majority ownership. Then the team would be stuck there.

So why are they willing to commit long term to Anaheim but not Sacramento? Does it even matter? They wont be owners in 30 years anyway.

WTG, Chris Lehane! I liked this part of the letter...

A little over a year ago, the Maloofs attempted to move to Anaheim. The terms of the arena deal that the Maloofs agreed to on February 27 in Orlando were better than the arena deal terms that Anaheim represented. However, what Anaheim was truly about was a personal loan to the Maloofs, presumably to help them with their financial challenges.
That's what I thought. Sacramento's offered lease terms were better than the Anaheim lease deal. I hate the Maloofs.

That would be interesting to compare the Anaheim and new ESC deals. Allowing for basic differences between financing a new facility versus moving into an existing one. I seem to recall the Kings had a shorter lease in Anaheim because of this. Something like an early out after 10 with conditions and 15 with no conditions. Might have even been less years. But they had that advantage because a new building would take 30 year financing and you have to lock in the anchor tenant for that term in order to get a favorable rating.
Of course the highly touted other advantage is the TV deal. Which strangely enough fell apart last year and had to be rescued through a local TV station owned by... Henry Samueli! Boy Henry sure is a nice guy. ;)
