Chris "Birdman" Anderson amnestied. Sign him?

We need some sort of shot blocking presence on this team.. The Birdman is available.. Should we pick him up?...

Why don't we just sign every single amnestied player?

We really need a 34-year-old pothead with no basketball skills and who used to depend only on his athleticism. He is the kind of veteran we desperately need, he could teach Cousins a couple of things off the court.

with his baagage and lack of effectiveness no one is going to pick him up. he will be lucky to get a vet min. offer IMO.

I guess I just feel desperate for any sort of shotblocking on this team.. Didn't know he was under investigation either..

Is there any cheaper shot-blocker in the market better than the Birdman?

If none and Petrie wants him, we better bid on him now and before Petrie get us another midget PG or SF. Maybe with a shotblocking BIG watching the Kings this upcoming season will be a lot more exciting. If we win the bidding on him, then amnesty Salmons and hope somebody picks him up too so we don't have to pay much for his salary.

It doesn't sound that bad according to his lawyer.

Well, I don't imagine his lawyer would come out and try to use the Allen Iverson defense ("Kiddie porn? We talking 'bout kiddie porn?!? Kiddie porn? C'mon man, Kiddie porn? Seriously? Kiddie porn.") so I suppose it's probably prudent to wait for the whole thing to play out.

Oh, the Birdman. They loved the Birdman here. Not sure why, but he was good for some weakside blocking, and crazy as **** tattoo art.

On the court he could be the perfect 4th big. He will block shots and get some steals.

Offensively he'll sets picks and only take shots at the basket, and will make them at a solid rate. And he gets to the line pretty often, and isn't absolutely terrible there.

I'd love to grab him, but we have 14 guaranteed contracts right now so I doubt it. We should have used our amnesty on Salmons and bid 2m/year on the Birdman. That would be a more balanced team.

NO, no and no. If the only consideration was on court ability you are still looking at an aged bip becoming more injury prone who only does two things well (Block and board) his passing is horrible and he seems to have no real head for the game, just jump and see what he gets. So you might take him IF you could him him cheap except as the saying goes "you can't have Falstaff and have him thin." Anderson was actually kicked out of the league for drugs, he has had repeated suspensions for dirty test and other bone head moves and is pretty much universally held at a distance by his teammates. He was suspended during the play offs after accusations of child pornography surfaced. Although this may have been a shakedown it's the position he puts himself in. Just say no to the Bird.

If he clears the amnesty wire, yea, I'd target him.

He looks like a 4th or 5th big at this point in his career, but he is a shotblocker, an enforcer .. and an intimidator. He is a super energy guy. He can actually make other players want to block shots and want to play defense.

isnt that what you want in a 4/5th big? if he could do that as well as pass and shoot, he would be starting

If we still had Adelman I'd sign him. Who knows, maybe Smart is a guy who players will play cool for, he seems to have cooled off Cousins a bit. But Anderson is a risk off court that I'm not sure we can assume.

Yes... IF they are dependable. My point is you take a risk for guys that have more to offer. You take NO chance for a guy that not only is an availability risk AND could turn your locker room into a bad episode of My Big Redneck Wedding.

It will be a big mistake if Petrie won't somehow try to get this guy. No one is available with the same skills and can be had cheaper than Birdman. Nevermind the off the court baggage. We are not building a choir. We want to add some more nasty defense in our team.

I actually would want to start this guy next to Cousins if we get him. He is an almost perfect front court complement and at the right price we can afford. Plus, he will be fan-favorite just like Jimmer whom a lot of fans want to succeed despite the obvious.

Starters:

C- Cousins (6' 11")
PF- Birdman (6' 10")
SF- T-Rob (6' 9") or JJ (6' 8")
SG- Salmons (6' 6") or Thornton (6' 4")
PG- Evans (6' 6")

We will be watching the Kings come playoffs time if these guys can work hard with a common goal which is to WIN.

Exactly how I see it. Anderson has WAY too much baggage to even be considered for the Kings. The Maloofs learned their lesson about grabbing "damaged goods" players with Ron-Ron. I seriously doubt if they would sign off on that kind of gamble again.

To be fair, Ron-Ron was the last quality SF we had, and played pretty well for us when he was here.

In this case we really want the justice system to do their thing and let it all play out before we talk about adding him to the team...

Anderson may need an amnesty that has more of a legal meaning to continue his basketball career.

Any news about whatever happened to the criminal investigation on this guy? Was there a charge filed already?

6' 10", shot-blocker, seldom operates with the ball in his hands, and can be had for peanuts. I think he would almost fit the team perfectly for now. I like him more for the Kings rather than Petrie getting a Mikki Moore or a Sean May to fill in the need.

How long is his remaining contract?
