Celtics sign Mikki Moore

Mikki Moore, the free-agent center who has been pursued by a handful of teams since he was waived by the Sacramento Kings Thursday, has signed with the Celtics, team president Danny Ainge has confirmed.

Contract terms were undisclosed, but he is expected to remain with the team for the rest of the season.

"He just provides energy and length, has really good hands, and played well in the playoffs in the past," Ainge said. "He was very excited to come to Boston. He was recruited by every contending playoff team. He really wanted to come [here]."

From Hoopsworld, so take it for what it's worth. PJ Brown last season, Mikki Moore this season. I think we've done the Celtics enough favors for 1 season.

He certainly won't have a PJ Brown like effect for the Celts (Brown had a more decorated career, had more offensive talent and had a defensive rep). Moore can't even do much offensively besides cutting/dunking or shooting a midrange jumper, and even those aren't guarantees given his fumblefingers and his increasingly overrated shooting ability. His defense consists of moving his feet and using his length, but he intimidates no one, doesn't block shots, and never developed any great defensive IQ. His PER this year is 8, and even in years where he played a lot his PER is only been about 12, so suffice to say he's a role player with minimal talent. The Celts do need a tall guy and that's probably the reason they signed Moore (not for his skills or "veteran savvy"), but if they expect him to contribute, they may be disappointed.

I'm glad to hear he signed with the C's. He's earned another gig simply by being classy and positive on his way out of here.

On the downside, it seems like we did the Celtics a lot of favors this year, with the trading for cash, and the fact that they wanted Mikki but didnt trade for him, now we get Mikki's salary against our cap, and he's playing for them. Not sure how that worked out.

he deserves his chance. With the talent pool around him i expect him to be much more efficient - if the C's win ill be dam well glad for Mikki

Does anybody remember the amount of rebound moore got early in the season in a 3 game span? Was it 1 in three games? I dont remember I just remember a lot of you being outraged.

Anyway Mikki dont scare me.

Talk is cheap, Laker fan.

:p

Mikki can do a couple of things you aren't used to seeing. For one, he'll stand his ground and take a charge as well as any big man in the league. He's not a major talent but he's a good, solid role player for production off the bench. Does the name Madsen ring any bells? That would be the comparison.

Whether you liked Mikki with the Kings or not, he is a great influence on other players. I appreciate the heart and hustle he offered this team, and I, for one, would be thrilled if he got a ring. Go, Mikki!!

Don't forget that he can scream "AND 1!!!!!!!" after a missed lay up where no foul is called better than anybody else in the league.

Somehow I suspect that the Lakers fans really aren't scared. :p

I posted this on the wrong board (keep forgetting about this one).

Funny that Ainge could've picked from a multitude of Mikki's attributes, like "really great hair" or "really great pair of lungs," but chose hands of all body parts. But, historically, ex-Kings have proven us wrong in the skillset department, so who knows.
