Ceasefire before the next volley?

Since the last thread started to chronicle the events that might easily have led to George Karl's firing after the Nets game got thoroughly derailed, this is the new thread to post any tweets, articles, etc. about the fate of George Karl.

It's a lot easier for people to catch up with a short thread than to have to wade through a whole bunch of unrelated stuff, so let's try to keep this one on track, mmmmkay? :p

It appears all is quiet on the Twitter front tonight, but I truly believe it's the calm before the storm. As I said in the game thread intro, Vlade has never been an early riser and has never seemed to be at his best for early morning games from the East Coast. There's every chance that he might just go totally postal if he sees a repeat tomorrow of what he suffered through in Brooklyn.

Here's what Bruski has tweeted in the last few minutes:

The Kings are not going to be able to catch the Jazz, barring injury. The Rockets or the Mavs are their only hope. They’re ~5 games back

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 24m24 minutes ago
From a Kings perspective that’s why I’ve said the last 1-2 weeks would dictate their season. If George changed they had a shot. He didn’t.

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 22m22 minutes ago
I haven’t seen an NBA story this interesting in a while. George has to change now or lose his job. I am genuinely rooting for him.

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 17m17 minutes ago
My take on a best-case scenario for the Kings - George keeps his job, modifies the offense/defense, and the Kings come storming back.

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 16m16 minutes ago
I think this could be his greatest performance if he decides to pull it off. RT @Dom_nomnom_ @aaronbruski and how likely is that?

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 6m6 minutes ago
Really you couldn’t get more #Kangz than stubborn George Karl changing his systems with Boogie and Rondo tearing down an 8-seed.

that's just Bruski realizing the Kings are going to Kings this, not fire Karl, make it a lingering mess, spiral into the All Star break in a big stink. Lame duck anythings don't work. Ask poor Hornacek.

The whole George Karl changing bit isn't even good twitter theater. He never has, he never will, and in an odd way good for him. Somebody comes to fire you you don't bend knee, you say **** you, spit in their face and go down your way, not theirs. George may not have much fire left, but I don't see George Karl winding down his career being somebody else's *****.

At best Cuz and Rondo will go to him and say hey, play Willie more, and he'll do it for a few games. What's he going to do, reinvent his entire defenive philosophy and institute a defense he's never run midseason?

@aaronbruski You really think GK is capable of that? I'd like to think it's possible but I feel he's lost the team at this point.

Aaron Bruski ‏@aaronbruski 22m22 minutes ago
@vladefan21 i haven’t been able to uncover the dynamic yet. Again, one of the most fascinating stories I’ve seen in a while.

If we could just get a little bit of defensive cohesion on a regular basis.

I think what Bruski is saying is that the greatest story from a media viewpoint would be if, after all the drama, Karl overnight decided to focus on defense, on playing with the style best suited to the players he has, and shocked the world by getting us to the playoffs.

In the bizarro Kingdom, who knows? That's why I created this thread, to hopefully be able to keep up with what I'm sure will be more drama tomorrow if the Celtics treat us like their personal chew toy.

If I turn on tomorrow's game and curry is getting some meaningful minutes then I'll start to consider maybe Karl isn't in this for just that final paycheck.

"..........realizing the kings are going to Kings this....."
I gotta say that made me laugh.

Hey guys, my NBA 2K16 Kings team is 16-1. Mostly due to...wait for it... defense!

WCS averages over 3 BPG and 9+ RPG. (His lateral speed is insane...deservedly so)

Cuz averages. 27 PPG and about 9 RPG.

Rudy averages 17 PPG

To be fair, I NEVER shoot with Rondo. He averages 7 points and over 14 APG!

That's gotta mean something...

...right? ):

This story doesn't interest me at all. It sounds like bruski is pitching a book or something. My team losing or having to bang heads around to even make things competitive isn't "interesting" it just sucks.

Thank you, VF21. I read the first 4 pages (about 120 posta), skipped a couple, read two more, skipped a couple, read two more up to 11:10 PM (PST), quit, went to bed (tired of hearing how good and bad Cuz is, was, or could be), to wake up and find your new thread. Thank you.

No news so far... But Boston has 74 points in the first half.

...sigh...

See no changes so far. You see, this problem was known the whole season. I doubt they just now told Karl, "hey this doesn't work, it's gotta change". He's refused to alter approach for all but a brief stint of games where they posted Cousins more and played WCS more. Even those things aren't big enough changes to fix overall issues and hit the 8th seed.

So did the Vladfather send someone into the Celtics locker at halftime and make them an offer they couldn't refuse? I know I should know better than to even think I could possibly follow or understand what's going on with the Kings.

eerie quiet.... wonder if it will blow after SB kickoff?

Serial hearings and Super Bowl are burying George Karl on my timeline right now.

Can't believe Carmichael Dave does not have something to say

I think we now have a confirmation that Karl has gone senile.

How can a team play well if it gives up 128 points in a game of basketball that did not go into OT?

Time to pull the trigger and show him the door. I am sick and tired of him turning this team into some sort of mad scientist experiment.

I hope if Corliss does take over, he will coach like he has nothing to lose. I remember a rockets game a couple days ago where the starters played like crap to begin the game and bickerstaff benched all of them, putting in 5 reserves. Harden had a wtf is going on look on his face walking to the bench. If you won't play with effort, there is a bench full of guys waiting to play and will put forth effort.

Haha. Guys: He's gone.

Either after Cleveland or after Philly. It's academic.

Just my opinion of course.
I don't get the reasons for waiting.

Teams that have some talent tend to generally get a bit of a spike when the coach gets sacked. Why wait until we lose to CLE and/or Philly to make the move. Do it now and let's move on.

I'm fine with waiting til at least after cavs game. Chances of winning that one is slim to none anyways. The real decision will be letting whoever takes over try to win vs sixers or giving them the time during Allstar break to get their stuff together. (Ie teaching a new system, practices.) Maybe re-teaching fundamentals like how to play defense and not leaving players open for 3 a million times a game.

Why? Cleveland just lost games to Charlotte and Boston. They're not exactly riding high right now. We could beat them if we come into the game with the right attitude.

But we need at least 2 wins from this trip to stay in touch with the rest of the teams for top 8. While we are a long shot to make it, we are still a chance if we can turn this around. I don't think we are turning it around with Karl but we might without him.

Yep, exactly. I just got up (its 7:30 a.m. here) and he is still here? I don't understand why. With those post game comments its like he tries to get fired but they refuse to do it. The team has quit on Karl. We will lose both games against the Cavs and the Sixers like that. If the FO is serious about making the playoffs right now they should send a message.

Is it possible that Vlade / Vivek want or need some time to discuss with a certain coach about taking over? Or are they going to just wait til the offseason for the new hire? There is one guy to talk to now and it's Thibs. Otherwise, I'd wait til Summer.

If they want Thibs go after him hard now make him a offer he cannot refuse and give him power to trade who he wants and actually discipline these players. You can't wait around a way better coaching position will pop up and he will go there. You can't wait around on quality coaches ethier go all in right away or don't.

the knicks just fired derek fisher this morning, and kurt rambis has been named their interim head coach. now, i'm not claiming that the knicks constitute "a way better coaching position," but it is new york, and it will always present a magnetism as an nba city, no matter how long it's been since they've had any real success. so while i disagree with you about most everything else, i do agree that you have to pursue tom thibodeau hard and fast. if george karl's firing is inevitable, then at this point it's best to just close the book on the brief karl era in sacramento, and no later than the all-star break. there will be other firings across the league. there will be plenty of suitors for a head coach as well-regarded as thibs. and given his existing relationships with cuz, rondo, and rudy, you'd be hard pressed to find another head coaching candidate who would enter the kings' locker room with instant credibility and a mandate to demand discipline. i don't know if thibs would be the "perfect fit," but i do know that george karl is a poor fit with this team, and considering the kings' currently abysmal defensive system and effort, thibodeau is the guy i'd want steering the ship when the new arena opens next season...
