Cavs Deal Off

Problem is that at that point the world has been reduced entirely to superstars and marginal role players, and I'm not sure that mushing all the gradations down into a simple black + white is terribly illuminating. Then you want to talk about Bibby vs. Eric Snow and you have to talk about the roleplayers and the ROLEPLAYERS. Probably easier just to leave the various levels of designations intact. If there's a 10 scale in which Nash is a 10 and Matten in a 1, Mike is about a 7. Snow maybe a 4 (or 3 anymore). Baron a 9, Deron an 8 etc. etc.

Bibby should be a two time all-star..he got snubbed two seasons ago by Ginobili(Mike had superior statistics and at that point was the #1 option on our team whereas Ginobili was #2.) That first half of the season Bibby had him beat in nearly EVERY statistical category. But the coaches chose Ginobili for his ability to generate international $$$.

The year before that Parker made the all-star game over Bibby and basically what happened above happened here too, but what was even more sickening, was that Bibby was VASTLY superior to Parker at this time and it wasn't even close.

I disagree, the popularity contest is the the starting lineup and the starters are usually good enough to come off the bench any way. And the bench is choosen by the coaches and they ususally pick who deserves it. True there are a few players that get injured for most of a season and still gets in but that only happens from time to time.

Bibby needing that proper person at the 4 just proves my point. He needs to be on a team that covers all his weakenss when he was not he was exposed.
That can be said of ANY #2 option, and that is why they are a #2 option on a team.

Bibby has to go because of one glaring weakness - woos defense. No stats to prove it but he seems to allow as many points as he scores, at best. With his cement shoes, there's no "Dancin' With the Stars" in his future.
Kings REALLY need a point guard who can move his feet, stay in front of his man and deny his man the paint. Kings would win a lot more games if they could shut off the flood of eeeeasy baskets. And my blood pressure would be a lot lower, too.

Yes, Bibby needs quicker feet and he stinks on defense. However, if he had any sort of frontcourt defensive presence, we probaably would not see his defense as such a glaring weakness.

How could they possibly want Bibby now? They have Gibson. He plays D as well as make big 3 pointers. Gibson was an unknown at the past trade deadline, but he sure isn't now. Cross the Cavs off the list....

On the positive side, any team that was seriously thinking about getting Billups in FA has got to be re-thinking that possibility. He looks like he's on the downhill slide. All other things being equal, Bibby's value just went up because Billup's has gone down.

Well, the Cavs were never going to give us anything worthwhile anyway.

But on the flip side, the Spurs were looking for an athletic 3 in the regular season who could guard other athletic 3s. They tried to get Maggette with no luck. But now that they're face to face with Lebron James, one of two things may happen: either the Spurs shut down Lebron and realize they don't need that defensive wing player afterall, or they get butchered by King James and spend the offseason wonderig if they should roll the dice with Ron Artest. The Spurs has some expiring contracts + late 1s rd pick or Jackie Butler that may amount to a decent offer. A lot depends on how well Bowen handle James in the series.

I pretty much agree with all of this but I think that Bull would rather have Gordon instead of Kevin. In his point of career kevin is just a spot up shooter, while Gordan can create his on shot, a good slasher, carry's his team for long periods of time and has made some clutch shots.

Another team that might be compable to us is Char but you may say Wallace or Okarfo.

Martin is hardly a spot up shooter. How in the heck did he get all those free throws last year if he was a spot up shooter? The guy can drive around ANYONE in the league. There's no way I'd trade Martin for Gordon.

I have made this same point before, but what the people still clinging to Bibby have to understand is its all irrelevant now. We are not in that place anymore. By the time we are back to a point where such niceties matter, Mike will be 30, a FA, and after another mega contract. The time has passed where his game, contract, and age corresponded to what we needed, and we could try to work around his weaknesses. Yes we have a really great PG...except of course that he isn't much of a passer and plays terrible defense. Other than that though. And did I mention that he has one of the 30 biggest contracts in the league?

Mike is much like Peja was near the end -- a product of a bygone system exposed once the surrounding talent washed away. There is a reason that my only scenarios where keeping Mike make sense at this point involve hail marys for KG. And like Peja, our system player is now gettign paid like a true superstar, which neither was even durign the peak of the system. Once upon a time he filled a very specific need/role for a very advanced team. That need/team no longer exists. In fact quite the opposite -- our need now is for youth, caproom, and a fresh start. Mike does not fit under any of those criteria. So it is time for him to go. Off to another team with specific need for a guy able to play the role he does. Someday after we figure out what our new incarnation will look like we will find a new PG who fits it. For the time being, time and money is wasting for both Mike and us.

No hard feelings toward Mike. I had misgivings when we intially traded for him for really the things we are still talking about today -- in Vancouver he made nobody better, played no defense, and had none of the magical PG instincts of a guy like JWill. But on that one Petrie saw clearer than I, saw the role and fit amongst the heavy lifters of our great teams. And it was a good run. But time and circumstances change. And Mike is not the sort of player you keep chained around your ankle in a rebuild. You don't build around a guy at that level, with so many limitations. He's a guy you add late to complete the process, not begin it. He has much more value to a team out there who knows what they are looking for, and have an open role, then he does here.

Yes, Cavs deal is gone.

No Mike Bibby will never be an All Star. He never was, and now with the new infusion of super points in the league, his only shot at ever squeaking in even once would be to go East. Mentioned several times that out West he might barely be average anymore -- the 7th best point in the conference. But if he does go East one day, it won't be to the Cavs. Even without Gibson blowing up, once they made it all the way to the ECF you figured they would be unlikely to want to make drastic hcanges. Let alone making it to the Finals.

Houston would still like him, but may not have the assets. Miami could definitely use him and may have the assets. Won't be Cleveland, but he still should be moveable.

On the other hand, Cavs making it to the finals, and LeBron's explosion shall hopefully make Artest's trade to Heat easier. Cavs and Bulls are clearly the class of the East, and Heat, which needs to win now as long as Shaq can move, and Wade doesn't bolt, shall look for someone who can match up with LeBron and to some extent, Loul Deng. I don't think they can do better than Artest in terms of talent. They also have some strong personalities there, who might be able to keep him in line.

Getting something useful from them shall be a challenge though. Maybe, a three team trade.

Outside of Sacto?
P.S. This is just a random muse, but I'm wondering is there a single team in the league who does not have at least one guy more valuable (all things considered) than our very best guy?

The Knicks and Eddy Curry and the Pacers with O'Neal and Granger, maybe. Those are the only two you can have a discussion, the other 27 teams no contest.
